We could also be Art and Dalh's son.
Didn't he go to the Fair like 90 years ago? We are far to young to be their son if so.
Edit: Least according to the note anyway, he may not have made it based on his stuff(?) being with the dryad.

Artemis is the name of a greek god for those who want to know(She was the Hellenic goddess of the hunt, wild animals, wilderness, childbirth, virginity and protector of young girls, bringing and relieving disease in women; she often was depicted as a huntress carrying a bow and arrows). It is also typically a female name. Not unheard of as male, but uncommon.

"You three have more knowledge about the area, and gremlins, so we should all vote and go with the majority. I suggest we leave at dawn."

Claire shakes her head, uses two fingers pointed down to make a walking-person figure go past, then waits looking at the ceiling a moment. Then she holds her hand palm-down and raises it up and out. Pearl says, "Before dawn?" and Claire nods. Pearl says "That does allow us to leave without the goblins noticing us, which might help."

Pearl looks to Charlotte, who shrugs.

Pearl says, "I say a bit before dawn, so we have more of the day to search in safety."

Going with something like a majority, everyone finishes the last touches of packing and preparation. Charlotte fashions shoes for you by wrapping cloth around some sandal soles that just about fit you. It'll be more comfortable than bare feet anyway. You notice their gear is a mixture of this kind of makeshift stuff and some actually nice things that were made by some craftsman.

And then to bed. There are three curtained areas at the back of the treehouse. Pearl must slip around the table of a kitchen area to get into hers. There are simple beds, with rough wood frames and, from the sound of it, springy wood slats, with bedding on top made from worn blankets and piles of furs. There are some rough shelves and hanging woven baskets with each woman's personal things. Looks cozy. Claire gathers a couple covers from each bed and plops them on the largest couch for you.

There's a potbellied stove that radiates heat long after the fire dies. It's been a long day and you're finally getting truly warm. You drift off to sleep listening to the creak and sway of the treehouse, the howl of the wind outside, and the incredible snoring coming from one of the three in the back.

You find yourself walking through a forest in the dark. Autumn leaves crunch underfoot. There's a bonfire ahead and some garrulous singing. You stop, paralyzed, at the edge of the firelight. A bunch of horrible trolls cavort around the fire. They sing:

Spoiler: The trolls' song (click to show/hide)

The tallest troll suddenly rises to his full height, towering above the rest, sparks from the fire flying upward behind his silhouette. He walks toward you as the rest continue chanting, hunching lower with each step, singing just the final line of each verse with the others as they sing the verses again in backwards order.

Troll grind little man under plough

He's halfway to you, but you can't move. You're like a rabbit in a wire trap.

Troll make hurts dat never heal

He's at arm's length, and now hunched down so his face, his grinning slavering face is right in front of yours.

Troll will feast on lit-tle man

He grabs your belly with his huge, impossibly strong fingers and grasps it, twisting. His hot breath finally wakes you with a start and you open your eyes to someone leaning over you in the darkness, nudging you. Guess it's time to wake up.

There's a feast of cold meat and bread, and ale, which you help devour. Your stomach stops rumbling.

Anything you want to do before you leave?

Pearl, Claire, and Charlotte are here.

a Big Heavy Book [Unlocked] (10 ENC) is on the table.
a Densely-Written Love Letter is on the table.
a Sharp Stick lies across the table.

Normally dreams like we just had are a kind of omen/vision. If the dream WAS a vision, we now know that trolls do not have weaknesses to lightning and fire. they are also capable of crafting weapons and armor. (in other words, if we encounter them, we are as good as dead. We should inquire about the trolls to corroborate my theory.

Definately, we need to find out about these trolls. From the description they seem extremely powerful and will likely wreck our shit if we're not prepared.

+1.
Edit: If it is a vision least there is a chance it wont happen for a while, autumn leaves suggest it is in winter or autumn, so either a long time from now, or fairly soon. Could just be a general warning to avoid trolls.

Ask the witches about trolls and their weaknesses.
Drop the black magic guide or give it to one of them. Take the spear into hand using it as a walking cane. Try to connect a string to your ocarina to hang it around your neck. Eat one sausage. Offer the other to your allies. Take the big book and the letter from the table and put it into your satchel. Play a tune with an undertone of adventures and questing on your ocarina.

Say "Ladies, shall we go then? I am apt to do this with the determination of a wisened warrior with a tendency to wit."

While we are going for the crazy insane wizard with a boot-hat angle, I don't really believe thats necessary, nor appropriate. We don't really know them well enough to be sharing our intimate, personal nightmares with them.

You consider eating some of your goblin-food and offering to share it, but

Quote from: Last Turn
There's a feast of cold meat and bread, and ale, which you help devour. Your stomach stops rumbling.

You drop off the Black's Magical Reference, tie a cord through the ocarina and wear it around your neck, and carry the goblin spear in hand. When you leave, only the encyclopedia and sharp stick remain behind.

You play a quiet little adventurous tune on your ocarina, and sweep your hand to the door. "Ladies, shall we go then? I am apt to do this with the determination of a wisened warrior with a tendency to wit." Claire opens her mouth for a short HAH! laugh but no sound comes out. Charlotte passes last and curtseys.

The treehouse is silent and dark. Pearl opens the treehouse door and peeks out. She opens it wider and motions for everyone to follow. The platform outside is frosted and the air is crisp and cold. Claire loops a rope around a tree limb, ties the other end around her leg, and lowers herself hand over hand to the ground. She ties the rope off and waves everyone down.

After you all climb down Claire unties the rope from a sturdy metal staple in the tree trunk and pulls it down. She gathers it up in a loop around her waist and covers up with her cloak.

The goblin camp is quiet in the predawn darkness. Snores rebound from behind barrels and inside haycarts, and from inside every hut. The lizard-roosters are all fluffed up together in a pile in a shed.

Your party of four slips quietly out of the center to a cleverly-disguised weak spot in the woven fence. Claire and Pearl work it open while Charlotte keeps watch. Soon you're all out, the weave is fixed, and you've scrambled across the clear no-man's-land to the treeline.

Pearl stops the group to pull out her spellbook. She also pulls out a bit of cobweb and a reed. She spreads the web out with her fingers outstretched, points the reed into the web, faces the whole arrangement toward the goblin camp, and begins whispering into the near end of the reed. The glyphs and diagrams in the open spellbook shimmer and crawl like the summer horizon. She whispers, then moves the reed slightly and whispers again. After a little while the cobweb evaporates and the reed flares up and cracks. Pearl claps the spellbook shut and stows it again.

Pearl explains, "The Goblin Witch just told several of the most gossipy goblins that she was journeying to Hell and would return presently. That should keep them from nosing around. Besides, they have a lot of work to do still getting ready for the attack on the trolls."

You ask about trolls. She says, "They're big, and while they seem dumb at first they're actually quite cunning. But they're also shortsighted and because of that they make too many mistakes." You ask about any magic or special abilities they might have. "None that I know about, but some can cast spells, and their priests have mysterious powers that can't be explained by any spells I've heard of."

Your group marches quickly southwest to meet up with the river and follow it. You're now west, downriver, from the dock where you met Vert, Bork, and Grep. The river is still dry.

Some time later, just as dawn is first lightening the sky, you spot an upright boulder next to the overgrown road with an arrow pointing downriver - the direction you're headed. Under that is carved some words, but you'd have to get closer to read them.

Pearl looks to the other two, and shrugs. "I've never gone this far along the river into gremlin territory. People usually cut around north and hug the mountain. There isn't a decent way around to the south - too steep to get down."

There's an engraved boulder here.

Claire, Charlotte, and Pearl are here.

Ask for more details.  Also ask if they speak the same language.  Ask if they are know for poetry, song, or any other bard-like skills.

You ask about song magic. Pearl says, "There are always stories about sprites and elves making magic with just songs. I've never seen it."

You approach and read the boulder.

these trolls sound like something we should deal with along with the wizard. So long as they are blocking the river (and I assume they are) this land cannot prosper and return to the time before the fair.

It sounds like we're ourclassed by the trolls in nearly every way, as such I firmly advise we do not under any circumsatances attempt to engage them directly. Their uncommon cunning makes them a poor target for trickery as well, our current tactics won't work well. We need to think ahead and get a bit more devious. I believe our only gambit given our current information on them is to draw up a long term plan (Taking advantage of their lack of forward thinking) in order to manuever and manipulate them into a position where their strength and magic is useless. Any engagement with the trolls will require as much recon and planning before-hand as we can possibly get. Not exactly relevent currently but we should be considering how to deal with this troll problem sooner rather than later.

As for the Gremlins Bork, Grep, and Vert said their lair was near "the big falls" downriver, so we need to head downriver and start looking for caves in the cliff-face of the dried out waterfall.
