Looking over the changes to Primitive in Only War, the sword is strictly superior to the monoknife, save in terms of weight or if you happen to want to throw your melee weapon at someone instead of just shooting them.
It deals more damage on average against both armoured and unarmoured targets, and gives a bonus to parrying as well.

Plus, if we still have that stupid Honourbound trait it fits a duellist regiment a lot better.

Yeah I'm sticking with the carbine, my hotshot needs 2 turns to reload so until i get 100 xp to get rapid reload the carbine is my best friend.

True, but I like the knife a lot more, but I'll swap to sword.

I'm pretty sure that Drop Troopers get the option to have a carbine replace their pistols at the start without any point cost. Also keep in mind that choosing something as your favored weapon gives you a +10 to any logistics roles in which you try to obtain it. I can just pick what I think would fit for you guys, if you really want. Also, everything looks good regarding your character, nothing bad in it that I can see. Once we actually get going, I'll do a more thorough check of each character once we have them all.

Also, the Hotshot has a lot of ammo which sort of makes up for the fact it takes a long time to reload. It's a pretty damn good gun, and from what I've seen in-game it does good damage and has great penetration.

As a note: Melta Guns are great favored basic weapons. Every Weapon Specialist gets both the standard-issue weapon provided by the regiment (Las Carbine in this case) and the Basic Favored Weapon of the regiment.

To clear up any doubts: the las pistol of the Universal Kit is replaced by the Las Carbine as the Main Weapon due to the Drop Troops regiment type.

It does, the only down side is a 2 turn reload time. So it's my primary then once it's empty I'll swap to the carbine since it's full and much quicker to reload.
