Out of curiosity, what is so idiotic about women getting on submarines?
Most are full of carcinogens, toxins, cramped isolated spaces [plays havoc with the mental health] as well as other fun things [engine rooms are hell] and of course some blue water navies' submarines carry nuclear weapons. Recently there were some fears about carbon dioxide but those were pretty unfounded. Female officers should be on submarines around this year and ratings 2 years from now if it's all worked out. Hopefully no one dies as a result.
Adapting submarines for including women will have to be a thing especially for submarines if they are to join now. Which will take time.
Medically, submarines are about as safe for men as they are for women.
Not terribly safe, but not more dangerous for any specific genitalia.
Disregarding hygiene.

Yea, as all female servicemembers do is pop out babies, right?
Oh look, a whole lot of sarcasm.
It's not terribly helpful, especially when pregnancy in service is an especially real issue, that can compromise military effectiveness.

(rape really isn't as big of an issue as people make it out to be, except for the aforementioned PR issues).

You gotta watch out for those pregnancies. Everything will be fine, and then one day, wham, 9 months pregnant and unable to function.

2. Because of societal attitudes right now, many men in the military would in turn go full macho in rescuing women in danger during combat, possibly to the detriment of the entire mission. In turn, enemies note "Hey! If we aim specifically at the women in their army, they start doing stupid things! Lets kill/maim as many women in their army as possible to mess up unit cohesion!", which THEN leads to the PR nightmare of dead female soldiers having their pictures wind up in the news. This problem could conceivably go away with time, but not any time in the near future.

Men who would ignore their training and orders to do this should not be in the military.

Yet women do expect privacy in a combat zone, and you end up with situations where infantrywoman x is suing infantryman y for coming across her while taking a dump and so on. You get a bunch of sexual harassment/sexual assault suits being filed, some of which are legitimate and some of which aren't, but all of which turn things into a circus.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but I did a couple searches and can't find any instances of this happening. Do you have any sources?

EDIT:  Also the whole 16 hours days. thing.  20 often enough.  and that's before chow.

Seriously?  Your argument is that women can't work long enough hours?

And you wrote that sentence, bucko.  It may not be your entire argument, but it's part of it.  And it's friggin' ridiculous.

Why? We don't exactly live in ancient Sparta where we berate soldiers for heroism. Just make sure women that fight front line fight in their own units, then the other soldiers won't ever have to feel like they need to protect any one particular unit in their squad.

A whole lot of female related issues and fatigue that would really suck to have on a 16 hour shift inside a metal box under high pressure in heat and constant noise.

If
you
say so
I believe you.  Its well known males and females handles stress differently, and while I don't think that is the deciding factor it needs to be taken into account and if it is severe enough than we need to pay attention to it.

There are no women anywhere who do stressful jobs.

e: "Blunted accumbal dopamine response to cocaine following chronic social stress in female rats: exploring a link between depression and drug abuse" sure seems relevant to whether women can handle being on a submarine!

Let's see.

Quote from: Sleep apnea
It’s most common in overweight, middle-aged men. Drinking alcohol and smoking makes it worse.

Why is this being called "female-related."

. . . Those are mostly about social stressors... ?  I'm not really sure why you think they're applicable to the aforementioned situation...

There are no women anywhere who do stressful jobs.

There are no women who go through labor for multiple days straight.

Aside from demonstrating my point, social stressors are a large part of being crammed 200 strong into a tin can for three months at a time.  And sharing a bed with three people.
