I don't have the materials for a temple or a ward, can a shrine do?
Nope.

You're lucky you have the chance to deal with them.  In my current fort I don't have the means yet to cure any.  The werebeast is a brand new baby born and being carried around by my legendary weaponsmith.  I've stuck about five armored badgerdogs and a war cougar on the dwarf.  Hopefully they can take it down before the thing tears my weaponsmith apart when it changes.

That's literally the same situation I have, except I have no warbeasts for defense.

why not just kill the troublemaker? if you want to spare your weaponsmith, put him and his baby in a 1x1 space and drop single rock boulders on them. Once injured you can split em up. Has some chances for fatal headwounds, but well...
Or armor your weaponsmith and put them on some triggered traps. Baby will die because no clothes, weaponsmith will survive.

Or restrain the Weaponsmith in a room with linked floor hatches.  You probably won’t have time to set that up before the moon changes but the idea has other applications, think I’ll set one up in my next fortress.

Some kinda disease is going around making everybody look pale and sickly and painting the ground green with vomit. What am I dealing with and what can I do about it?

Oh dear god they're starting to rot, I really don't want to lose my fort to the black death.

Unified branch from Dec 28th had a lovely feature that one could view the contents of a stockpile with 'i' from the 'q' cursor. This feature is not present in 4g. The two dfhack.init files are identical. I've checked the dfhack Quick Guide.

Does anyone know how to enable this feature?

Probably influenza. You'll get lots of vomit and lots of resting, but otherwise not that bad.
Think of this as a trial run for your outbreak procedures: Quarantine, make medicine, be happy it's not something worse.

It's not influenza. I did a look through the raws. It's the black death.
Also the animals have rabies.

Hey, quick question: for the 'Simple Gem Shapes' setting, is there a (not ridiculously complicated) way to select what all cut gems become listed as? I hate the word 'cabochon' with passion, and would much prefer pretty much any other cut to that, or, it would be even better if they just got listed as 'cut <insert gem name here>'.

Also, if you hover the cursor over a dwarf's name in Therapist, you'll see what buffs they have (and what diseases).

Would have been helpful to know before I abandoned the fort.

I recently started up playing this mod and have been enjoying it quite a bit. However, I just ran into my first problem with it.

If my understanding is correct the blushed with bloodshot eyes message is a high bloodpressure thing, and that if a dwarf with it suddenly falls over and doesn't get up in means they've had a stroke and are never going to get up.

Well, that just happened to a merchant. The combat report lovingly follows that falling over with something like 1000 message of him regaining consciousness, but there is no movement happening from him. So I'm guessing this particular merchant had a stroke. The problem is that he did this on his way to the depot, and I can't trade until he gets there because his friends are all still waiting for him. Oh, and he doesn't seem to be dying, probably because merchants don't eat/drink.

So what do I do now? Can I cure this merchant using dfhack somehow or something? Would just killing him with dfhack allow me to trade with the caravan?

But yeah, other than that great mod. I'm sure there is a lot I'm missing, but what I have used so far is awesome.

'Fullheal' from the dfhack window. I've never tried it on merchants, though.

falconnes plugins got an update. Argh... I forgot that one.

Thats more of a feature than a bug. The caravan AI is not good enough to handle this... they will wait for him till they go crazy/leave, or till someone gets a real injury and they leave. You wont be able to trade with them. or you can try the fullheal, but I dont know if that works against the custom diseases.
