Poll

Should Scaleplate/Chitinplate/Shellplate reduced to "Scale/Chitin/Shell", and "Rigid X-plate" to "X-plate". It would shorten names a lot.

Yes. Text gets cut off too often.
No. I dont care/like the names as they are.
Dont you have anything better to do then making such tiny adjustements?

this must have been brought up in the past

but... normally in vanilla, if you have a caged goblin and you wanted to pit him, you'd have to strip him of his equipment to prevent him from threatening the dwarf that released him and getting free

However, since all your baddies have modded weapons that aren't really weapons but part of the creature to prevent on fps clutter.  I never need to strip him.  Which is one less step for me.  But... it also means that I can pit them successfully all the time vs forgetting once to strip him and releasing someone armed into my fortress

I think exist a command in DFhack to strip caged baddies, never test it really, I like to grind baddies inside a saw-blade rooms  :D

Or just atom smash them. Sadly fall pit room are not good anymore, then keep surviving the 10Z fall, at leasts in my tests. So I dunno what I doing wrong.

I like the goblinite I donīt like waste this precious free metals income.

I like them to survive a little bit for practice.

I'm pretty sure it's thieves and the like that escape once you try to pit them in vanilla (might work if you're really fast but can't remember). With or without equipment. Dwarves will however cancel the pitting job if they get interrupted and let whatever loose. There's a bunch of special cases like titans and stuff as well if I recall correctly.

They will escape, because dwarfes are afraid of them:) So if a pit is next tile from cage - they will not be able to:) I mean dwarf might be scared by an orc standing right beside him... though if he stands on the pit this fear will last only 1 frame until that orc falls down:) So always build cages adjascent to pit:)

There's a design on the vanilla DF wiki page for mass pitting of caged enemies. Though if you don't have a lot of them I imagine just putting the pit next to the cage would work.

While I understand that the butchering of invaders was providing a lot of food and hence disabled, it also prevents the creation of items from their bones, since I cannot butcher them... Is this a compromise we will have to live with?

Made even worse with the itemcorpses, of course.

I'm still on 4a at the moment, but when my level 2 watermancer (born as one) cast her arctic spray at some stampeding war elephants she gave herself a fatal case of frostbite. She made her parents quite sad. This isn't intentional is it? I didn't think the water variety was supposed to have a dragonfire explosion type spell.

to make the game more realistic (I'm sure it's been said before), cloth shoes have to go, leather shoes should be required... and it should be pushed that this should be common knowledge.

I know vegetarian shoes exist (IN THE 21ST CENTURY), but not so much in days old

not so sure about that

Cool link.

But why exactly are non-leather shoes coming into question?

Today two rather unimportant things came to my mind but i will post them anyway:

- Could bridges be modded? I think it would be cool if drawbridges would also need ropes or chains as buildmat - just for a little bit more difficulty when walling in

- Military castes: I would suggest a fifth one wich is manly used for squadleaders. high teacher-, less combat skills and vice versa only high student skills for legion, marks, guard and wrestlers.
I had this idea while playing kobold mode and using only owl-signs as squadleaders.
