Should Scaleplate/Chitinplate/Shellplate reduced to "Scale/Chitin/Shell", and "Rigid X-plate" to "X-plate". It would shorten names a lot.

Yes. Text gets cut off too often.
No. I dont care/like the names as they are.
Dont you have anything better to do then making such tiny adjustements?

He hasn't seen terribly much action yet, but he seems to help with the same sort of "Burst of speed!" thingers that the Spirit of Life does, but I can order him around. He became a Lifemancer just after my last major siege, so I stationed him in the infirmary where he seemed to buff both the patients and the hospital staff, but I'm not sure exactly what he is doing...

Since he had zero military skills, he is pissed off at being drafted though! lol

I might have to make a few and see if my recruits are decent enough at wrestling to take on some of my prisoners. Heck, if the Gobos actually win I might feel inclined to let them go.

I just hope they can swim. My cavern elevator has a puddle at the bottom.

I have to say I had completely forgotten about Lifemancers... Are they useful? And I would assume having higher skill makes them better at the whole Mancing of Life and all that.

Lifemancers can raise the dead.  They don't seem to be good for much else (and they cause some annoying combat spam by healing perfectly healthy dwarves - which by the way only speeds up natural healing, it doesn't regenerate limbs), but being able to restore your dead to life is really nice.  I suppose they could also help your military in combat, since their healing spell buffs endurance, dulls pain and can make temporary maladies such as bruises and (I think) syndromes go away faster.  A dwarf resurrected mid-battle will probably just get killed again, though (they come back naked), and every death is a separate bad thought for that dwarf's family.

Skill does absolutely nothing for them.  They cast their healing spells with fixed frequency, and their spells have a fixed effect - no skill modifiers.

Ah, thanks for the information!

Do any of the other mages ignore sorcery?

I think all of them do, actually.  Sorcery doesn't do much of anything.  I suppose it might help with smacking things with magic wands...?  Oh, and it shortens the time it takes to run a reaction that involves sorcery, not that any particular dwarf needs to do many of those.

Sorcery is MAGIC_NATURE, right?  It's used for the ranged attacks of the various arcane weapons in Orc fort.

But, as Brilliand says, most other magic are done with interactions, which don't use any skill.

Does being a Lifemancer interfere with doing other civilian jobs in any way? Other than possibly getting distracted now and then to spam heal every splinter than walks by.

No, all mages are normal members of society.

Ok I have some questions about how to do some specific reactions.

First off, what is required to make potash with slag? Would love to speed up this damned farming with my metal waste but I seem to be lacking some reaction material.

Secondly....Boozebelly goats.....I tried a few in my first playthrough and I managed to get ONE unit of milk, that was put in a barrel and never touched again. Despite plenty of buckets my milker never milked one ever again, despite having milking on permanent repeat, and no cheese was ever made, also on perma-repeat.

So wtf am I doing wrong on those?

EDIT: and right after posting realized I shoulda put this in gameplay questions....oops.

Lye.

I mostly use my slag to make 2 concrete blocks apiece, because slag is far easier to come by than ashes/lye.

Thank you once again Brilliand, you seem to be determined to answer all my questions :P
