Should Scaleplate/Chitinplate/Shellplate reduced to "Scale/Chitin/Shell", and "Rigid X-plate" to "X-plate". It would shorten names a lot.

Yes. Text gets cut off too often.
No. I dont care/like the names as they are.
Dont you have anything better to do then making such tiny adjustements?

I believe they can train military dwarves without having to actually be in the same squad, via demonstration.

Thanks :)

The main post shows an example of a building guide, but I can't find those anywhere in the manual or the MW folder. Where are they located?

When you open the manual the index should be right there on the left of whatever browser it opened up in. You should then be able to scroll through the list of buildings, or click on the names to jump directly to whatever you are looking for.

The building list in my manual comes with a small picture and a description, the building guide example lists exactly what you need to build it, as well as every reaction with the ingredients and the result. Some of the reactions use up way more mats than the name implies so it'd be helpful if I could look that stuff up.

I strongly disagree with the placement of reactions to make totems and statues needed for the temples. Seriously, without reaction list being there in the manual, along with listed reagents, it took me like 10 minutes to figure out exactly what was going on.

Really, just move this to craftdwarfs and masons respectively. Crafting ,imo, does not belong in a temple. Let alone two diffrent ones for no reason.

I think the thematic angle is covered - it isn't crafting, it's blessing.  You're sanctifying the totems and statue for use in the temple.  It does need to be clearer how one is to go about building a temple, though.  (Or maybe the build order requirement should simply be scrapped - there are, after all, valid reasons to build the smaller religious buildings even if you already have a temple.)
I can buy your explanation, but still, even with that, just put them both in the shrine. I agree that progression is pointless in df as things stand.

Also, I'd like to make another point. I understand the reasoning with some building taking more raw materials, but >10 items? Really? I get that hte idea was to simulate high end buildings being built more slowly, but frankly, its really tedious and seems more like artificial difficulty.

Vodos:, So i wasn't making things up when i remembered that ther was a manual with reactions listed. I though it was so, seeing as the both manual download and attached manuals seem to be really low in detail.

If someone asks on the forums what the reagents are for a reaction I will search for them.  It takes a fraction of a second to search in the text raws.  But copying the exact same information from thousands of reactions into an HTML or PDF that becomes quickly out of date, and is no longer easily searchable, makes very little sense to me.

Hmm, wasn't someone making an automatic documentation generator?  I forget where I saw that.  That would be the way to go, though.

The blood of our enemies is but a symbol.  The true domain of Armok is magma - mountain's blood.

How do you use createitem to make an Iron Guardian of Armok?

Ah ok I guess it's too much work if stuff changes frequently.

I took a look at the reactions_masterwork.txt, that's the correct file? I can understand most of it but some things are still a mystery, like:
Code: [Select]
[REACTION:HOLY_TRAIN]
[NAME:spend time in the garden (train)]
[BUILDING:SACRED:CUSTOM_T]
[PRODUCT:100:1:BOULDER:NO_SUBTYPE:INORGANIC:KNOWLEDGE_STONE]
[SKILL:ALCHEMY]
What does it do? Knowledge_stone seems to be what is used to grant XP but the Lifemage I sent to "train" in the garden still has 0 sorcery XP after I had him sit there for hours.

KNOWLEDGE_STONE does nothing; the reaction itself is supposed to increase the skill by generating that stone. Reactions require products to increase skill.

It's too much work  <full stop>.

In case people want to crowdsource a more complete documentation, we set up a namespace on the wiki, which I encourage everyone to check out and contribute if they're so inclined.  I don't think that copypaste all the reactions there is the best use of anyone's time, compared to other things that could be described there.  ( ... But if it's helpful and I'm just not seeing it, go for it :D )

I have to say I had completely forgotten about Lifemancers... Are they useful? And I would assume having higher skill makes them better at the whole Mancing of Life and all that.
