Finn hefts his pick over his shoulder and walks down the mineshaft in the shout's direction.
He calls out into the blackness ahead, "You guys okay down there?"

You head down the tunnel and call out. Hey. You guys okay down there? Your words echo back to you, but there is no response. Your boots crunch on the uncertain ground and a cold wind blows from the end of the tunnel, sending a chill creeping up your spine. You stop just at the mouth of the chamber, a secondary one that links a few coal veins and then leads back up to the main shaft. You hold the lantern up, trying to see further into the room. You wonder why the electric lights are dark when it suddenly occurs to you that the familiar rumble of the gasoline generator is gone. The hair stands up on the back of your neck and something scrabbles in the dirt from just beyond the pathetically small ring of light emanating from your lantern. Suddenly your breathing seems very loud and you can hear your heart pounding against the inside of your chest.

((Sorry, been very busy today))

"Yeah, nice and clear.  Thanks for the refresher, I must be getting old haha."

Head east towards pump station cautiously.  Stay in a tight formation and regularly check my back to make sure nothing is behind us or following us.

Pufferfish
You lunge towards the kid, all the pain disappearing from your mind, letting your pipe and suitcase drop to the ground and driving your shoulder into the boy's gut. You hear the air rush from his lungs and the gun slips from his hand as the two of you crash to the ground. You clamber to your feet, ready to kick him down should he try to stand, but the boy is still. You risk taking a closer look and feel for his pulse. You can't find one.

gman8181
He smiles weakly. Hah. It'd take a little more than some bad directions to bring you down boss.

You form up and move out, heading directly towards the pump station. You reach it within minutes and find it deserted, the pump handles resting on the concrete where they had fallen and the station itself half collapsed. Waters fixes his bayonet and checks the interior while the rest of the team covers him. He comes back out and shakes his head, sheathing his bayonet. James checks each street in turn using his scope and reports them clear.

SomeStupidGuy
You take a step forward and something lashes out at you from the dark. You stumble backwards and fall to the ground. The lantern tumbles from your hand and bounces, rolling away a few metres and coming to a rest, but thankfully not going out. Something clicks and chirps menacingly from the darkness between where you sit and where the lantern lies on its side. You push yourself backwards with your feet, and you can feel solid rock at your back. Your hands tighten against the handle of the pickaxe, the clicks grow louder and more frequent as the creature hiding in the darkness comes closer.

Whew, close call. Take the gun. Pocket it. It's a vital survival tool here.

Stick by cover. How old was the kid? He may have some friends in the building. Keep quiet, keep low, and tend to my gunshot wound before it gets bad.

"Well, everything here appears to be pretty much good.  Let's just make sure that the emergency supplies haven't been touched by anybody and then head to the clinic."

Make sure that the emergency supplies at the pump station are still intact and then continue on to the clinic.  Move as silently and as well hidden as possible.  Move from cover to cover as often as possible and keep low to the ground so as to avoid being seen and fired upon by any of the human squatters in the area.

Pufferfish
You stuff the revolver in the inner pocket of your overcoat and glance at the boy. He can't be more than ten years old. You wonder whether or not he might have any friends around while creeping towards the front desk. Probably not, you decide as you peek over the counter, spotting the elevator against the wall and the staircase access against the wall. If there were more the boy would have sounded the alarm rather than take you on alone, but then again you could be wrong.

You sit down, leaning against the front of the desk, and finally take the time to look down at the hole your shoulder. It doesn't bleed, and you don't feel any pain when you stick your fingers into the shallow wound and dig out the flattened slug. You shrug your overcoat partway off and find your skin unbroken. Apparently Terrence is bulletproof. You chuckle in surprise and relief. This just keeps getting better!

gman8181
Waters nods. Already done Sarge. Its clear. You voice your thanks and start moving the team towards the clinic. Luckily most of the buildings facing one side of the street are ruined, providing ample cover and shadows to keep the squad safely concealed as you lead them through.

It isn't long before you encounter a patrol, a pair of ragged civilians, likely belonging to the clinic you were moving to investigate. They move down the opposite side of the street without making any effort to hide themselves, conversing in low voices and cradling hunting rifles. Apparently they don't encounter much resistance around this part of town and as a result they've let their guard down. You could bypass them easily, though they could become a problem if you need to fall back in a hurry, as your retreat would be cut off. They come to a stop, now directly across the street from you and you hear a low crackle as one of them holds a hand radio to his mouth. They don't seem to have noticed you.

SomeStupidGuy
You bring your legs closer, pushing yourself halfway up against the wall, hollering and swinging your pick wildly in front of you. You feel the tip of the pick glance off of something hard and the monster in the dark hisses unnaturally. You feel sharp jaws clamp down on your calf. You scream and something hot and wet pours down your leg, soaking your trousers.

Bring my pick down on the thing's head, seeing as it's probably going to have a bit of trouble getting out of the way in time.

"Alright, it's probably best if we let these guys know we're here to avoid any unnecessary problems.  Just keep on your toes in case these guys decide to do something stupid."

Softly shout out to the patrol while staying behind cover

"Hey over there.  Don't want to startle you guys, we're a military patrol that need to pass by."

((This may well become a defining point in my IC experience.  If they shoot at me, I'll begin taking my first steps towards RPing as a completely paranoid jerk whereas if things go down peacefully, I'll continue on with my current nice guy approach.))

I actually laughed out loud. In relief.

"Thank you, Terrence, you're a great friend."

Now, if we can guess he was alone, we could take the elevator. But here's what we're going to do:

Start up the stairs slowly to the next floor, listening for absolutely any noise. That gunshot draws attention from the outside too. Leave the pipe behind the counter, but take the briefcase.
