There's a disassemble key, though I can't recall what it is.  I think, like, ( or something - check the wiki.

I built a bunch of turrets on a vehicle and mounted one on a custom-built cart, but neither will fire, even after I set them to burst mode via controls.  Am I missing something?  Do I actually have to stock them up with ammo, or something?

Did you drop the right ammo into their respective squares?

I believe we can pretty much agree here that the size of the bush, the toughness of tires, and the weight of vehicles is actually totally irrelevant.  The bottom fact is that you cannot drive vehicles through fields because of bushes, and you cannot drive them through streets because of debris.  This is no longer fun, and the game has lost appeal.  All realism aside, it's detracting from gameplay experience and making a very large part of the game totally unworkable.

Pretty much this. It would be a non-issue if the streets weren't clogged. Skinny vehicles & dealing with less storage space make driving possible, but not easy, and certainly not fun.

I'm going to play the devil's advocate here and suggest that the impracticality of vehicles is working as intended. If there was an actual zombie outbreak or other world-ending-cataclysm, any major roads very likely would be clogged to uselessness. And driving offroad in vehicles not designed for it should be impractical and very hard on the vehicle (not disagreeing that bushes are broken for now though).

The way I see it, using vehicles is like using guns: Extremely useful situationally but with major drawbacks (for guns it's the noise and ammo scarceness) that make it impractical a lot of the time.

The realistic solution for navigating clogged highways would be to use a narrow vehicle with more maneuverability, like a motorcycle or scooter. And you can! It's smaller and has fewer features, but that's the tradeoff.

I guess my point is I really like this form of balance for vehicles and hope it's maintained at least optionally throughout future releases. Maybe a better system for deciding which streets are major (and therefore jammed with dead cars) or minor backstreets (probably mostly clear) would go a long way.

Hey, I think there needs to be a way to make extremely weak 'frames' in vehicles so that we can tie a motorbike to a wagon and stuff like that. Maybe add a trailer system as well.

Mmmmm yeah, see it's been said that the eventual goal is to make being mobile and being stationary equally viable. Right now being mobile is essentially just stuffed with extra annoyance that literally adds nothing to the game except frustration of having to make sure you don't park next to a bush. Firearm scarcity is a tactical element that you have to balance out, and competing options (archery, throwing) exist that are equally effective. As is, having a camper/bus is just bonus irritation because hey why not. You've already paid the vehicle cost by living long enough to get mechanics and materials to high enough levels to assemble something that larger and equipped.

Speaking as a person who thinks that the whole "Mechanised Apocalypse" idea Mad Max started in which everyone has their own car they run everywhere is a highly stupid idea. Cars are noisy and require fuel. Even electric cars, powered by solar panels have the disadvantage of working at reduced efficiency on overcast days.
Not to mention that fuel is not infinite and refining more gasoline is a very specialised procedure that requires quite a vast knowledge in the field of chemistry and engineering. A much more efficient method of staying mobile is a bicycle with its high mobility and relatively low maintenance requirements. See also sailboats, but those aren't in the game (yet).

And even though I see the appeal in driving a Kill Bus 9000 in all its cartoonishly gory glory, for me it is just another fantasy concept that reality ruins, like the use of chainsaws against zombies.

Still, I see why people are upset. Cataclysm DDA is not a realistic simulation, it is a game that people play for fun. And some people just find driving Kill Buses 9000 incredibly fun.

Well, I'd say there's pretty clear major advantages to having a fully equipped mobile base. Having to move slowly/plan routes carefully/clear debris to get it from point A to B doesn't sound at all unreasonable to me.

Again, if you just want to get yourself and some supplies around quickly, there's small vehicles for that. You could definitely live a "mobile" nomadic lifestyle out of a motorcycle or something and not have to deal with these annoyances.

There should be a way to load small vehicles into larger ones.

There's a foldable bicycle you can make and pack away in storage. Takes 5 mechanics I think.

Why not insert 'Bulldozer' frames? You have bulldozer frames on the front of the vehicle -end of bush problems- Bulldozer frames automatically remove bushes from in front of them and debris that might block your path, shifting them aside.
Problem solved -and realistic too.

You can't move slowly because bushes stop you anywhere under about 40 mph. You can't plan routes because all roads in all cities are clogged and will wreck your vehicle. You CAN clear debris, if you really want to spend more than half your playtime hacking apart car frames, after hacking apart more car frames to build the vehicle you can't actually drive efficiently.

Show me a motorcycle of small size that can hold food reserves, seasonal clothing, guns, ammo, gasoline, electronic parts, cooking utensils, and blah blah all the other stuff you actually need to be mobile? Smaller vehicles are fine, and if I ever make a stationary base I will have one.... But their existence doesn't really justify going through all the hassle of making a big bus and being rewarded primarily with more hassle that detracts from gameplay.

Nomads aren't supposed to carry around everything they need with them. They carry the basest of basic things, like weapons and cutting tools, and then get what they need wherever they stop.

Then why do RV kitchen units/welding rigs/trunks/custom vehicles exist?

Define 'small size'

Hey guys, I just drove by a military outpost (accidentally), and kinda got shot at a little. Next time I stopped I noticed my water storage had gone from 20%+ to 8%. Now I don't think it was hit, (and it was still pristine), but I can't think of anything else that could have consumed that much water..

For people who want a completely equipped and fancy base that can (slowly and carefully) be moved to a new, better location when a given area is depleted?

It's less inconvenient than packing up an entire stationary base worth of belongings and hauling it a bit at a time to a new base somewhere else which then needs to be re-organized and re-fortified.
