One thing to remember in relation to marrying Marna is that part of the reason the Count felt he could get away with an assassination is because we have no heir. The quicker we get an heir the quicker we remove that justification for the Count. Most men, while willing to murder a man, are very reticent about murdering a child. Of course the count is scum so he might be willing to. But in any case I just thought I'd throw that out there.
Still at least 9 months, and it'd make her even more of a target. (Maybe not killing, but poisoning is enough)

Maybe we should put more effort into the courtship, but i don't think we should propose just yet.
Yeah, we need to express our thanks to the rat, we really owe him one, and i bet that fact has not been lost on him.

We still haven't asked her brother for permission to officially court Marna yet, have we?

Also, seeing as the count is trying to murder us, what do you guys think about returning the favor? Our brewery produces beer and wine, which we know the count is quite fond of. What if we were to poison a keg, and then, after it trades hands through several different merchants, ends up being sold to the count?

He's the one who suggested we ask the duke for permission to court her, so i think we have his blessing.

I don't think that's a good idea right now, all things told it would look badly if the count ended up dead. Enough people know about his potential involvement on attempts on our life that if he was poisoned it would implicate us.

We've gotten permission from the duke who is her official head of house.

And we would gain very little from killing the count, aside from a beheading if we are discovered to be behind it.

And, you know, getting a murderous villain off our back...

The law is the law, as much as it appeals emotionally to me to kill the count. Even if we get away with it, it presents a liability further down the road and opens the possibility for blackmail or arrest if anyone gets whiff of it. The count, while he is our immediate enemy, will not be our only enemy.

Also, the drunk, kinda paranoid Count will certainly use a taster, and I also highly doubt that our beer is prestigious enough to end up anywhere else than your average pub.

I say that we propose sometime this coming month or the next, and then try to have the wedding relatively soon, since we don't want to wind up like her last fiance.
As for the gift we need to return her, I would suggest a wedding ring.

Not a ring. Not yet. It will be for the actual ceremony. We'll see her in september, there will be a RP session, and the wedding will be inevitably brought forth. We'll see then with her.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but once we're married to her, she's the heir herself, becoming a dowager if we have no heirs. Right? And even if the law is grey, the fact that she's the duke's niece would probably give her a de facto claim to retaining control of the fief.

So... About what I was saying earlier. Let's focus on getting this village self-sustaining. Let's formally establish a town council composed of Dent as Mayor, Irlof as Treasurer, with Stumpf and Wood also on the Council to emphasize that the mine and continued town development are important goals. And they meet with all the tax-paying townsmen once a month.

Now let's start some training montages. Order the masons to carve stone weights of various sizes, and let's build up our strength. Our diet should be fish three times a day until we puke. Our life becomes organized around an ascetic training regimen: a strength day, a skills days, and a rest day where we deal with whatever administrative issues that our councillors bring to our attentions. Alan is very much a part of this, of course, but +1 to getting a real trainer.

umm, let's leaving poisoned wine/ale as plan B. We're still waiting on results from plan A, which was gather evidence.

Well, I took the Duke's words as to mean he's expecting a wedding proposal soon. If you guys wanna wait though, we can wait. Meanwhile, I say we focus on our training and try to get all or skills up to par.

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

She's a good catch, and she basically neutralises the Count immediately, since he doesn't want to mess with the Duke's family... Let's marry and make babby with her.

Even if we do marry Marna, I'm not sure how much extra protection that would get us from the Duke. Nephew-in-law isn't exactly a close family relationship...

I suppose we'd continue to be a target on account of the Count's general dislike of us; but at least the profit motive is gone, and while killing the Duke's nephew-in-law may not be a big deal, killing the niece is, and we can keep the niece close. :)
