I think we should ask if anyone has an idea as to why our horse did that.
Apart from that, I think we should hang around with the knights and Lady Marna

Surround yourself with friends. Do not order anything special. Avoid served drinks.

Our own combat ability is largely irrelevant in the scheme of warfare except to keep us alive and serve as an inspiration to troops. That said, i do think it is important, just not as important as most of our other facets of lordship.

I said it was a wake-up call, because it's time to wake the dragon. There was a purpose to letting our combat skills sleep earlier, but that purpose is resolved. The gold mine is there, our council of good administrative lieutenants has formed, the village is behind our cause, and those aspects of governing have grown beyond the need for careful observation. Now we get a sharp warning that we're not the knight we have to be. And really, it's fine for right now... but do you always want to be the loser who gets unhorsed by a no-name?

Gerv, we get what you're saying, but your tone implied that the other things were rather unimportant and a waste of time, that's all. I agree with you that we need to take much more of our time to practice our skills, but we also need to not ignore our other duties, such as maintaining the lands and trying to gain alliances.

So, we mix with the crowds and try to meet more of the nobles of the Duke's court. Also, we try to find the Knight who bested us and offer warm congratulations to a good bout and a fine victory(can never have too many friends!).

Then, we take Alan aside and tell him that we've decided the best way to improve both our combat skills is to hire a personal trainer so that our combat skills are worthy of a knight(especially training in a lance, which seems pretty hard to train just alone!). See if our friends have anyone they can spare for this purpose(explaining that our poor showing with the joust has shown us we still have far to go if we want to truely call ourselves a knight)

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

War, especially a civil one should be avoided to great lengths. Its terrible for the people.
if this business does devolve into civil war it needs to be over and done with as fast as possible.

I'm hoping that actual proof of the count being a plotting asshat will lead to his removal from power without the need for battle.
but we've already gathered support if it does come to war.

I agree that we should mingle with the lords here. try to get a feel for alliances. how many friends does count Foles actually have? maybe Marna can help us with mingling and introducing us?

an alternative could be to try and find some information about the guy who actually messed with our saddle. but I dont know how we could go about this.

as for martial prowess,

Being a good swordsman can save our life and that of those close to us like it did with the assassins, being a good lancer is less important I think. we can practice every now and then. but we shouldn't strive to become the most bad ass jouster in the lands. Im sure there are better thigns to spend our time and potentially money on. Like the more finer skills like rhetoric.

I guess our goal should be "average" in most skills, and select a couple of them to get as high as possible. Sword, bow and maybe shield namely.

Otherwise making friends and acquaintances is good.

Sword, Bow, Shield, Armour, fitness, Lancer and Rhetoric should be upped to 'very good' and woodsman should be increased to at least above average.

You watch the rest of the joust, and a Knight whose name you don't know ends up winning. Sir Percival tells you that he is a renowned jouster by the name of Sir Ivanson.

You spend the evening mingling with the Knights and Counts at the feast, with Lady Marna showing you around and introducing you. Many congratulate you on your skills in the melee and the archery competition, while a few give you a hard time about the lack of training your mount demonstrated.

Avoiding any drink you don't see poured yourself, and eating sparsely from plates that others are eating from, you feel a bit paranoid, but given the events of the day, you feel justified. Sir Melvin notices your reticence, and you take him aside and explain the circumstances you face. He understands, and spends the rest of the night at your side.

The feast goes without issue, and you meet the other Counts and spend a few minutes with the Duke. He tells you to watch your back, and keep an eye open. He has heard that your manor has been built, and he suspsects moving out of a rickety farmhouse will make you a less appealing target.

He also pulls you aside and tells you that he has reconsidered his opposition to you and Marna's relationship progressing. He has seen the way she looks at you, and he would be a fool to keep you two apart. You have his blessing to propose marriage, if that is what you desire, and you may also invite her to your lands.

In the morning, you head to Lady Marna to bid her farewell. She comes out and presents you with a long bundle, and tells you to open it. You do so, and pull out a fine longsword. It is longer and a bit heavier than the militia-style sword you are used to, but it is a much nicer weapon. You are overwhelmed, and promise to return her gift in kind when she visits you next. She tells you that she will pay your lands a visit again in September, and looks forward to seeing you then.

With that, you leave. You now know a few more Counts and Knights, and have a fine new sword. What will you do in August?

I would like to speak with Irlof, it seems the Rat has been doing good work. lets see if anything of worth has found its way into Irlofs hands.

also, we should make sure the comunal farm remains large enough to support our growing population in times of need, The warehouse could also use an upgrade I think.

I agree.

For Marna's gift, I suggest a *silver wristband*, engraved on it is the image of a falcon in silver, his wings deployed, holding a gold circle in his talons. It is inside an empty silver sun.
Metaphor: The sun is us (our symbol), the falcon is Marna. The falcon stole the core of our symbol => Marna stole our heart. Additionally, she is inside our symbol, meaning we wish to make her ours (marriage essentially. Because there's no way we're not marrying her now, seeing how far we got into the relationship.).

Yeah, let's get married :D.

No, I'm serious. Seeing how she likes us, and given what the Duke said, we should formally propose to here and start arranging a wedding.

I think Marna is swell, but I also think that proposing to her at this moment in time will put a target on her back.

we need to deal with the count. I really hope we catch a break with him soon, It somehow feels like we're running out of time.

The count doesn't seem like a patience individual. If we prove hard to kill, he would probably get more aggressive with assassination attempts and probably mess up leaving incriminating evidence we can use against him.

If its our wedding proposal I suggest we go all out on this gift, if possible see if our mines have yielded any gems and get the gift encrusted by a jeweler as well. Preferably red and white jasper if we have our pick, gemstones carried very deep symbolism back then and those represent love and gentleness.

This, that being said, let's not keep her at a distance. Let her come to our land and also let her know why we can't propose at the immediate moment.

I also agree with this statement. We should incorporate gems into our gift and provide the materials to legendary metalworker of some other town.

Also, Let's look into commissioning leather armor, from the lord who name dropped at the carnivals new shop, for our less experience archers, that way they gat full mobility without drawback and we aren't shooting immediately to heavy metal armor.

One thing to remember in relation to marrying Marna is that part of the reason the Count felt he could get away with an assassination is because we have no heir. The quicker we get an heir the quicker we remove that justification for the Count. Most men, while willing to murder a man, are very reticent about murdering a child. Of course the count is scum so he might be willing to. But in any case I just thought I'd throw that out there.
