Agreed. we should get started on more brigandine armor for the troops as well as metal caps/helms; have them add longer, overlapping plates forming a plateskirt to the bottom of the armor for upper leg protection. This should be more than enough armor for light troops, while still allowing good mobility!

Also, now that we have proper quarters, we need to furnish them appropriately. Do we have any joiners/woodworkers? If so, set up a small workshop for them and have them make furniture appropriate for a lord's manor(also has the benefit of yet another craft we can trade!). If not, we can either commission furnishings in another town or we can entice a joiner to move here.

Also, we should look into hiring a personal tailor to upgrade our wardrobe. We don't really need to be opulent or anything, since we were just a humble farmer and shouldn't forget it, but having clothes of a finer fabric and weave, and made to fit, should be seen as what we need to be seen as a lord.

As for a large project to do....well, we could set up some sort of grain mill. Is it possible to expand the lumber mill and add grindstones to it? Or should we build a separate waterwheel and mill?

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

however lets be cautions about this new man "the rat" the only reason I would consider it is that we trust Irlof but these espionage types are allways pretty shifty. If we decide we can trust him we should try to bring him on to lead our intelligence efforts, perhaps as a permanent hire?

Lets give them fluted iron armor. The fluting works really well at dispersing force properly. Looks great too.

.....ummm, fluted iron armor is the most expensive armor you could possibly make, due to needing great skill to fashion and being extremely labor intensive. We'd probably be able to buy an entire herd of horses for the cost to have our troops outfitted in it, and it'd probably take a month per soldier to fit them out.

One more thing, now that we have a proper weaponsmith have him improve the quality of the weaponry we're producing, and assign him a few apprentices to train up. Same with the armorer, get a few apprentices to him

It seems... People know more about medieval armor than I.

Think regular platemail, and add fluting to this. That's how expensive and time consuming it is

At the moment, the brigandine armor, along with basic caps and shields, are about the limit of what your armorer can produce. More fully formed and forged pieces are a bit off in the distance at the moment.

I think we should go to the tournament with what we have. Speculating on plate armor is too early and a good sword take a long time to make. Plus, we'll have to get used to it. The goal here, remember, is not to win but not to get humiliated. And given our (well known) origins, nobody, including Marna, is expecting us to win. We can finish last without relationship problems I think. Do not get too worked up.

Fair enough, if there's a swordsmanship or archery competition we have a chance of shining there.

yeah but instead of not being humiliated think more along the lines of not dying ;). we'll just hope theres an archery competition so we can not look like a total failure.

about the Rat, I don't want to get too close to him... I would like to try and hire him to dig up some real usable evidence of the counts involvement with an assasination attempt. If we do hire him, it should by via proxy(probably Irlof) and we should give him only what he needs. we don't want him turning around and selling what we give him to the count.

I'm personnaly for contacting him and trying to know him, as in what he can do for us, how much can we trust him etc... Not making any deal, just getting a feel of the guy.
