For reference, the ongoing projects would be continue the ship, finish the manor, and expand clayworks and finish paving the town streets in brick, right?

Actually, something else we can do is have Irlof use his contacts to find us an armorer/silversmith instead of waiting for one to show up

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

Well, it's only one minor thing that shouldn't take time really :P. Usually I have more grand ideas in mind!

Also, we have some really good industry going on. Can you guys think of anything else we might do to attract more people to our town?

Let's not joust, since we would need several lances, not to mention a rather heavy suit of armour.  Also, we've never held a lance, and I doubt that we would be able to get very good that quickly, so we're more apt to embarrass ourselves than do anything successfully.

....true, we'd need actual platemail for jousting, though we can have some brigandine quickly fashioned as a stopgap and wear our mail under it(we'd also need a jousting helm made, and that would have to be ordered since I don't think we have anyone with the skill to do it).

Well, we could also go the expensive route and have a full set of armor commissioned from a nearby town. Of course, if an armorer comes this month, we might be in luck and be able to have it done here!

BTW Origami we are jousting because I'm pretty certain Marna wouldn't look at us favorably if we were to not show up :P. So to that end we need to do intense drills on riding and horsmanship, plus have several lances made and a practice field set up so we can get lance practice in(have dummys made at about the height of a man on horseback) as well as an iron shield with our crest put on it(have our current shield painted as well!)

A medieval tournament was more than just jousting.

sword fighting and matches with a variety of weapons were common also, as were tests of strength, agility and other abilities.

Oh, also we need to get a horse or horses war-trained so they don't spook during combat

i was sorta indicating that we could show up and take part in other competitions, still impress Marna and use her blessing.

at the moment, jousting is a bit out of our price range.

...Hmmm, you have a point, plus there was this thing about defeated knights needing to surrender a forfeit to the victor when they lost, so we could possibly pick up proper armor and stuff from them  ;D

Fine then, we still need to learn to use a lance(in case we someday find ourselves in a charge with other knights) and need to get our horses properly trained, as well as get a coat of brigandine made (FYI brigandine is simply small metal plates riveted to a cloth/leather backing: think medieval flack jacket as it provided excellent torso protection, and making small metal plates and attaching them to leather shouldn't be out of reach of our current metalworkers). When we arrive at the tourney we'll explain we couldn't get proper armor made in time for the joust, but we'll be participating in other events

Year 4, June

Dashing off a letter to Lady Marna, you inform her that you will be present for the tournament and look forward to fighting under her favor. Then, dashing over to your squire, you instruct him to set up a training field for jousting with a list and dummies. You also commission a few practice lances, and are about to purchase an iron shield when, fortuitiously, an armorer and a weaponsmith show up in your town, drawn by tales of unworked metal and military expansion.

Overjoyed by their arrival, you commission a set of brigandine armor for yourself, as well as an iron shield, and an iron lance. You talk with the woodworkers and have them fashion some practice lances as well. You realize that you'll need actual plate armor to joust, but you still work on your skills, on the off chance that you happen upon a set by the time of the tournament.

Even with Alan as your trainer, your skills fail to develop very quickly in the month of practice. This is so unlike anything you've done before, and it combines skills in a way that is quite foreign to you. Nevertheless, you are not completely hopeless anymore, and can occasionally get the lance pointed in the right direction without falling off your horse.

The manor is finished this month, at least the initial phases, and you give your old farmhouse over to an eager farmer. Your belongings are moved in, and you have the mighty stag's skull mounted over your hearth. Your felucca is another month closer to completion, and you instruct the clayworks to continue expanding. With the increased size and a few new apprentices, work is completed on paving all the streets in the town.

At the end of the month, you hear a report from the rangers, who have had zero luck in their task so far. No nibbles as mercenaries, no info on the wool merchant. Irlof approaches you one evening, and draws you aside. He explains that he knows a man, who goes by "The Rat," who may be worth contacting if you are interested in actually doing subterfuge well.

With that in your mind, as well as growing concern about the tournament, what instructions do you leave for July before heading to the tournament?
