"The Rat" is not a nice-sounding guy...but he has skills we would find useful, Irlof trusts him, and we can't lose anything from a meeting. I say we do it.
yes we can lose something from meeting the guy personally
he can take the info that we're digging into this mess to the count, that info might be worth something and it will really hurt us.
Where did I say Stone was the one going to the meeting?

you also didn't go out of your way to be clear in what you meant.
"a meeting" how am I supposed to read that? I dont think you're being fair here calling me out on interpreting something reasonable while you could have been clear about what you meant in the first place.

the only thing I was trying to illustrate that there is a downside if we go at it directly. just to remove possible confusion.

I thought it would be clear by how no one was talking about going ourselves and several of us were explaining all the reasons why that's a bad idea for some reason.

And if we went in person, spreading suspicions of our suspicions is hardly the worst thing that could happen.

Well now that we know we're gonna send somebody for a meeting we need to figure a few things out

what specifically are we hiring this man to accomplish?
how much info do we provide him?
who do we send? (I assume irlof but if anyone has another suggestion)

Maybe not Irlof, if Irlof wants to send a man of his. Should be even better.
We are hiring him to gather information on the Count's schemes. We need proofs he is up to something. He can help our men get infiltrated or get the proof himself, doesn't matter.

Year 4, July

Before you travel off, you set a few things in motion. You find a local woodworker and his apprentices, who have specialized in building furniture, and offer to build them a small workshop in exchange for furnishing your manor. They will get to work this month while you are gone.

You also find a tailor amongst the new imigrants in your town, and commission a proper wardrobe for yourself. You tell him that, if you are willing to build them a shop in your city.

Instructing the armorer and weaponsmith to take apprentices, you have them get to work on forging brigandine armor, iron helmets, and iron shields for your men, along with iron versions of the weapons they use. They will be working on this for the next few months.

Talking with the mechanics, you decide on an expansion to the mill to power a grindstone, allowing for more bread and baked goods to be produced. This will not take too long, and should be up and running on your return.

Irlof is instructed to reach out to The Rat through a third party, circumspectly asking him to look into the Count and his intentions towards you. Still no word from the Rangers.

With that set in motion, you take Alan and a few Archers and Axmen for guards and head off to the Duke's land and the tournament. When you arrive, you set up a tent, and get a feel for the tournament. There will be a melee, an archery competition, and of course, the joust.

You are informed by a page of the Duke's that he understands that not all of his vassals own their own plate armor, and there will be loaner sets available from his personal armory for those who are interested in jousting.

It is late in the afternoon, and the events don't start until tomorrow. What will you compete in, and would you like to do anything this evening?

Locate Marna naturally  ;D

Well, archery first, since that's our strongest skill and we can win some fame with it. Find out what type of melee competitions are going on and see what we might be able to do. As for the joust....well, honestly our skill level puts it as too dangerous for both us and our opponent so we respectfully decline the joust(explaining why if necessary)

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.
