A book a week, starting from 21st? Sure thing!
This is the 2013 challenge, not the 2012-2013 challenge. It takes place from the 1st of Jan till the 31st of Dec. You can start after the 1st of Jan, but not before. You can have a personal challenge or you can cheat here. But would it really be worth it to cheat in a little game?
Cheesus Crust! Cheater? Can't calm callous calls conceived creepily like that.

To 2013 it is! Though... Try to be less inquisition-like :P

I'd probably read about 150-200 books to take a conservative estimate, depending on the length and interestingness of said books. Sign me up.

Holy nuts you guys have a ton of books. I've got... maybe 40? on my personal bookshelf. Everything else I borrowed from the library.

That said, I could probably manage the hour-ish each week to finish a novel. Put me up for 52, maybe 104 if I get ambitious.
I have about 4000 books in my house, not counting ebooks.
Not saying I've read all of them, I just have a very bibliophilic family :P

I have a small selection in my apartment.  I think my father has a Garfield book somewhere, in his apartment. . .

After raiding my father's little library, I've got my books all chosen.

I'll join in. I haven't been reading much these past months, and I'd like to pick up that habit again. I also have a large collection of books I haven't read yet (I tend to pick up more than I can read) so I know what I'm going to read.

I'm probably going to cheat a little though, because I don't want to spend my time wondering if the book I'm reading is big enough to be counted in the list. There's a lot of theater I want to read, and I don't want to put it aside for that project !

Mostly easy reading/young adult fiction. Try putting some literature in there.

I just think he's crazy for trying to read all the Ice and Fire books and ninety-five others in one year, regardless of what those other books are. Frankly, with that schedule I'm not sure how you'd appreciate any lit you might read, unless it's stuff like Dubliners.

There's plenty of books that won't be that hard to digest in such a short time. If you're looking for short, try Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. It's under 200 pages and you could probably finish it in a single night. Not that hard to fit in some quality literature if you really want to accomplish more than simply turning pages.

An old teacher of mine used to say that reading is like eating. Choose a diet that has variety and substance. If all you ever fill up on is junk, your mind's going to get fat and lazy. Pick something that has a bit of meat, something you'll need to chew awhile.

It's not that it takes longer to read, most lit doesn't take any longer than anything else, it's that you need time to reflect upon the ideas it presents to truly have gained something from it. If you're reading two books a week you just don't have the opportunity to analyze, reread passages, check out essays on the book or maybe even write your own, or just time to sit and think about what the book was saying. If you want to read lit, that's excellent, literature is beautiful and I'm always for encouraging people to broaden themselves, but when you're trying to read a hundred books in a year it just doesn't seem like an appropriate time to do it unless you're in it just to say you've read it.

Literature is like meat, you do have to chew on it a while. 3.5 days just isn't long enough.

Well, this seems right up my alley. I could do a several hundred page book in a few hours (while appreciating it, too, not just speed reading), so one a week isn't a problem, reading-wise. Actual book-wise, though, I may have some issue. Not a terribly large personal collection, and while there might be a few somewhere about the house I might enjoy, fact is that there's no way to get to them and sort through them. E-books might be the way to go for me.

Anywho, I'll start considering a list when I get home today, thank god for an exam schedule. I'm sure a good chunk of it is young adult fiction, but I'm definitely going to be doing some fairly heavy stuff as well. Besides, I am a young adult.

I think I could do this. I might need to squeeze them in to the sides, but I do want to try.

Is there a list of suggested books?

I've got 64 in my barracks room at the moment, enough to fill my sad little shelf and make two stacks on my dresser.

Back of the envelop calculation puts my library in Iraq at 2200 or so, but I only read a few dozen of 'em.

Definitely in for at least 52, if I make that by the middle-of-the-year-ish, I'll bump it up to 104.
