A single book would count as multiple books ONLY if other books are included in it. If a book is a single book and it has say 3000 pages, it is still just one book. You can't divide 1000 page books into multiple books.

My planned books:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

That is my current backlog of books that I can remember.

Glyph: those kind of magazines count, if they have short stories in them, then they count. Textbooks don't count.

That last gobbo would stand there, missing an arm, punctured in a kidney, liver, and spleen, fading in and out of consciousness at the far end of where the drawbridge would go, and his last sight would be the drawbridge dropping down and smashing him like a bug.

God DAMN I love this game!

I can't do a book a week. I just can't. Might be able to manage one every two weeks though. Put me down for 26.

Helps that I'm now living with a bibliophile and writer. His personal library makes mine look like shit.

Whaaaaaat? Why not? I figured those would be a given - they are certainly book length! What about non-textbook-type technical/science books and natural histories? I'm still trying to chug my way through Accelerated C++, for example, and my wife buys a bunch of books about plants that I end up reading second hand. (Though most of those are really half manual/half autobiography. Hmm... I've got some book of my own like that too. I have no idea what that Genre is called!)

I was going to try to read all of the Dragonlance novels, but holy fuck there are 194 of them. Maybe just a few, then.

Put me down for 52.

Put me down for 52. Then watch as I don't even make 20 for some reason.

Seeing as I have started reading less and less and I've been planning on picking up the pace some time now, I'm in for 52.

I'll give it a go.  I usually only read rather lengthy non-ficiton, however, so I am unsure if 52 will be feasible.  Does a book describing the growth of the youth culture and its change from 1940 to now count?

26 for me, after thought.  the books are too long, and I have to study and exercise and suchnot.

If I may suggest an e-peen (ink-peen?) measuring contest, how big's yours? Currently I own somewhere around 700-720 books, maybe 750 volumes; it's fairly extensive, ranging from Finnegans Wake to Alastalon Salissa to A Grammar of Modern Welsh to Fractional Calculus to The Dravidian Languages to the 11th edition (1913) Encyclopædia Britannica to volumes 1-6 of Fruits Basket (my secret shame: a love of shojo manga).

Given that I am a 17-year-old with spending money but not extensive means (both parents ~$50,000 white-collar workers) who has never held an official job, I am really rather proud of this feat. Today I added four volumes to the collection, maybe more- there's a bookstore near here that sells books (I bought vols. 4 and 6-8 of Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei for three bucks each) at absurdly and I suspect dubiously legally low prices. It certainly helps that I almost never spend my money on anything else.

@Footjob, you can microwave most grains I've tried pretty easily through the microwave, even if they aren't packaged for it.

I have <30 books Dx
I plan on buying or otherwise acquiring most of the 52 books for next year though, so I hope to reach ~75 next year.

Do you count all the ones in the house or just those you yourself and nobody else in the family owns? If I counted everything in the house it'd go up to about 2100 or 2200 books.

House. If I counted only mine, it would be more like 8.

A couple hundred here. And that includes comic- and gamebooks. While an avid reader, I'm not much of a buyer of books.

That, and a good deal has been irretrievably left in various places.

I have... 15? 20? And I'm planning on getting rid of some of those.

I tend to give them away, trash them, or use them for kindling when I'm finished with them. There are very few books that make their way into my permanent library.

I hate "stuff", as a general rule.
