Due to the inconsistent response time and how long it takes to do anything. I highly recommend only playing adventure mode :P Fortress mode is impossible for me to play like this haha.

My netbook practically sets on fire after playing Fortress mode for half an hour, and there can be up to 8 seconds of delay between commands and response in Adventure mode sometimes. I doubt a tablet would work very well, although there are a handful of gaming tablets running Windows Mobile in existence IIRC.

The upcoming Surface Pro should be able to run DF at full speed (Core i3/5/7). It might be a decent option for playing DF on the couch, but I'd rather buy a notebook at the prices they're likely to sell for.

I have no trouble whatsoever running DF on my netbook, I never get any 8 second delays, though I do get the occasional hangup.

And this is not for the couch, it's for the hidden nook of the restaurant where I can be left alone and slack in peace :P

Response time? What do you need response time for in fortress mode, unless your PC runs DF at 250 FPS? And even if it does, cap it at 100 during remote sessions and you're good.

Done.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It's god damn hard to control without a full size keyboard/all buttons on page/no numberpad. My SSH client didn't need the :22, I think it does that by default (which is weird cos some people change ports...)

Whoa, whoa, let's back up a minute.

I recently got myself a smartphone to motivate myself to quit smoking ( been a week! ) .. !!

This is relevant to my interests.  Tell me more.

Not smoking = more .money

This justifies the purchase and higher monthly bill

And the smartphone serves then as motivation, because I am cheap. It also makes a wonderful replacement add diction.

There are intel tablets, where you can easily install for example Ubuntu, which runs df perfectly. Problem is, without the keyboard, this game is pretty unplayable...

How well (or not so) do USB keyboards, such as the foldy travel ones, work on a *nix tablet on an Intel chipset?  Any experience?

My i5 from ~2011 runs DF as fine as any computer (seems the FPS death standard is "oh crap, pump stack, laaag", which tells me there's an average computing level here).
