OpenSSH:
I'm looking at the website, and scratching my head over both it and the installation instructions.
My, I do have ever so much to learn about all of this.

Have you ever used a Linux Distro? I'm familiar with Ubuntu and I just open the shell and type:

sudo apt-get install openssh-server openssh-client

You can then make sure it's started with

sudo /etc/init.d/ssh start

Then you can connect to it by doing:

ssh username@ip.address

I'm going to be entirely honest with you.

No.

I only installed Ubuntu as a way to share my wifi connection to my xbox without buying a wifi adapter like two or three years ago, and have barely touched it since.

So add that to the list of things I've never messed with before this attempt to get mobile dwarfing working.

No worries. If you run those commands I said, you should have OpenSSH working at least!

am I literally typing 'sudo /etc/init.d/ssh' or are you assuming I know where the init.d folder is?

Also, is there a specific port I should be trying to get in through?

Errr... 22 for SSH I believe.

/etc/init.d/ssh is one of the default locations I think.

I recommend, once you get the SSH server set up and running correctly, to install and use GNU Screen. This way, if you get disconnected while playing DF, you can resume the game you were playing and not have an inaccessible DF process hanging around.

And on my phone I'm trying to connect to

myusernameher@myexternalip:22

correct?

The actual structure on this depends on the App. Most of them just have an input form which will say "Username" "password" "ip" "port", etc.

I've SSH'd to my server and I'm currently trying to get it to work. It's currently installing the 32bit stuff though as I'm using a 64 bit system. I'll post some screenies if I can get it working.

mine asks for a raw "username@host:port" interface, and I entered my username, external ip, and port 22.. And was unable to connect. Is there something shell-side I must do first in order to make sure the line is open for the phone's ssh client?

Could be that your router is blocking it or forwarding it to the wrong place? Check on your router and make sure it's forwards any traffic on port 22 to the local IP of the linux system.

Done.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It's god damn hard to control without a full size keyboard/all buttons on page/no numberpad. My SSH client didn't need the :22, I think it does that by default (which is weird cos some people change ports...)
