Haian, while fun mechanically, is boring to RP. So I'm thinking up new ones. My first thought was about angsty anime characters in D&D, and so I thought, "What if I took it to ridiculous levels?"

And so, I shall make at least three pages of backstory for Tragicus the Elf Ghost. The tl;dr is that he's essentially the universe's whipping boy. For 750 years his life was misery. Some hundred failed suicide attempts lead him to finally abandon that prospect. He finally died of old age and the universe made him come back as a ghost purely to spite him. Too depressing?

Suicide is a sin, and I'm sure Asraen would love to remind Tragicus of this constantly. "You probably went to hell. Do you remember hell? Was it Baator or the Abyss? Or the wierdy place with the Yugoloths?"

Nah, he just died (of old age, at the maximum for elves) and just came back immediately as a ghost.

In most real-world societies, failed suicide is treated more harshly than successful suicide. If you succeed, they don't really do anything special.
Of course, the corpse is a little too dead to punish...

I wonder if anywhere has a law against suicide, and how it's enforced. Death penalty?

Invisible text is ineffective against my sensors. They'd probably punish your family for your suicide. That's how people roll.

Sure it does. Look at what he's wearing. It's clearly a Cloak of Resistance. And he has a magic ring. And Bardic Eyebrows of Charisma. He even has bardic music that goes off whenever he enters the room:
