Inspired by this thread, and this thread before it, I decided to boot up DF, gen a new world, and start my own Pick and Plump Helmet adventure.

Updates:
Year 1, Autumn update
Year 2, Spring update
Year 2, Midsummer update
Year 2, Late Autumn update: Undead kobold incursion occurs, human maceman paint our front door red
Year 3, Mid Spring update: 1: Troll, troll in the dungeon! 2: Migrants come in spring, and someone decides to make something out of bone
Year 3, Midsummer update: Achievements unlocked: first artifact successfully completed, first possession, first legendary dwarf
Year 3, Late Summer update: Achievement unlocked: first fey mood

Oh, so there you are. And I was beginning to worry that you guys wouldn't show up at all..

*Disclaimer: After seeing those ice wolf corpses I rushed things, so no pretty screenshots for Before shots. Lots of After shots though.*

Now by this stage I had already moved the founding seven into this icy cave into the side of the mountain, and set them to work on getting a still and a carpenter's workshop up and running. After getting a willow door up, time to lock everyone away from the outside!

The next logical step was to secure some sort of food supply.. or dig for magma. I chose the latter, and dug down.. to find a cavern and a passage.

We made it to the 3 month point! Summer in a glacier is boring though.

Nobody has any points in smithing yet. However, two things to note:
1. In pretty much every regular fort I run, smithing is the primary goal of the fort - all metalworkers are cherished.
2. There is a lot of flux and iron ore in this glacier.

So, no worries. You will definitely get dwarfed as a smith. In this case, you're the expedition leader as well - 'GreatWyrmHematite' Monomakgos.
PS: there's a lot of hematite in this glacier.

3 migrants turned up in summer, a carpenter, a (male) gem setter, and a farmer. That's surely some good news, everyone else in this cave is a miner first and dabbling whatever second.
