Autumn update time!
I wasn't sure if we'd be getting a dwarven caravan, so I asked our mason Ulthed Nilthe to handle architecture jobs as well. Considering that I asked him to build this trade depot out of ice, I'd say he's doing well.
Meanwhile, NAV is busy digging out more exploratory shafts. She finds a warm spot of rock, which I order channeled out to fuel our forges.
And that's the smelter for GreatWyrmHematite.
More migrants arrive! What's attracting them to this literal frozen hole in the ground?
A lye maker, a peasant, and a clerk. Darn. And MrWillsauce already has max precision at bookkeeping.
Slightly later in the season, a trade caravan shows up! I open up the willow front door to invite them in. MrWillsauce is still updating records, so drastic action is called for. I order his chair to be deconstructed...
And he stops updating records and goes off to trade
Since our challenge was to embark with a pick and a plump helmet, we lack an anvil to kickstart smithing. We have some dimple dye harvested from dimple cups down in these caverns, which come in useful as a bargaining tool with these traders. MrWillsauce manages to convince them to sell us some cave wheat seeds and a steel anvil for 4 bags of dimple dye and a bag of dwarven sugar. They seem pleased with their acquisitions. On their way out, guess who comes to greet them?
They're lucky to escape with their lives, even the liaison who was dancing around with the ice wolf corpses.
I later discover that a polar bear was mauled by the axedwarves as well.
Well shit. Self raising biome. Time to do something about the camel and the cow in our cave.
Well, we survived one year in a Terrifying biome! It was a bumpy start, but the undead ice wolves left us alone, allowing us to get a tenuous foothold in this environment.
I want to be a woodcutter, Kaspa
You are 'Kaspa' Kêshshakmelbil, miner turned lone woodcutter in this outpost. You admired a fine bed recently, and you're currently taking a break.
So I noticed the thread name in the forum main page, and now I'm thoroughly disappointed that what follows the p is not "ants".
Awww.. we can try that next time then. Expect about
2 0 dwarves to survive
