That's a  strange motivation:

"hey, crew, lets spend most of our cash on that gun because it's likely a potential plot point!"

It's an OOC reason. IC: It seems like an experimental weapon, which could probably sell for a lot more than 2,200 credits to the right person.

OK.

plan A:
sell the missiles +2200

1) 10 complex electronics   - 540
2) 25 electronics - 475
3) Automated flak turret:  250
4) Weapon scrap and parts: 460
5) Advanced tools: ( we have some tools, but those are more metal working, that one for electronics) 610*

Total cost -2335

a) try to upgrade that old turret with all that new electronics to make it capable to host the AI and improve it's sensors (if it will need fewer electronics then we buy, store some, but I intend it to act like AI's brains, when we will link it to the main system... Surely do not locate the core in the turret itself, only nearby)
b) Replace flak cannons of the turret with a pulse laser, one that carry a very serious punch for it's size, but goes like 2 second active\6 seconds recharging\cooling**...
That makes it's ideal to hunt small targets or weak points of large ships ( like shoot in the missile, destroy it with powerful burst, find new target spending that 6 seconds that laser needs to recharge )
c) Install the turret on the place of the missing one
d) store what is left from the original flak in the cargo hold ( At the worst we may sell it to one colony..... )
e) Make it easily turnoffable by analog means, and have a crewmember responsible for that

* don't buy if GM knows that this will not add bonuses  for the action
** or any other numbers GM finds fitting for a pulse laser

Missile purchases:
3 -  Dragonfly anti fighter missile - 480
4 -  Dummy missiles - 48
3 -  Firelance missiles - 267
1 - Emegency flare missile 26
Load all in the launchers

Also buy 10 (560 Mosquito missile for our fighters, reload  their launchers with it. put unloaded missiles and excess mosquitoes into the cargo hold . And buy 3(78)  emergency flares for later use\real problems

Total on missiles - 1459 (duh, it's expansive)

384 credits left...

Plan B. Missileless

Same as plan A, except :
1) No missile purchases  (+1459)
2) Sell two missile launchers (+1000-1600)
3) Buy Large plasma cannon, repair it with aviable resources (-910)
4) replace missile launcher with railgun and start repairing it with our available resources
5) still buy one flare missile in load in launchers

Plan C:
First part of the Plan A and save money for future by not buying the missiles

Plan B is going two missile launchers route. I prefer C, but A  gives us short time expensive firepower for emergences, and B improve our firepower and give a nice option for close combat, should something get close. And not using many missiles = much lower running costs

I think it's not practical - let's buy unknown weapon, let it lay in our cargo bay and hope to find  good buyer for it... We may return later for it, now we try to equip us against pirates.

We don't need to keep the weapon in the cargo bay.

Come on, UkRa, you know that a weapon incorporating jump cores is going to make us MUCH harder to harm. It probably teleports ships away from us...or maybe just parts of them...

I agree with you it looks uber strong and hard to counter. Problem is that it's badly damaged and we know nothing about it. It's hard to make it work, don't you think? But... After some reconsideration I agree with this... We are buying repair tools, so may also use it for the task....

Let me do the numbers...

So,

Final plan

sell the missiles +2200
Sell missile launchers +500-800 ( If it's big, and needs place of 2 missile launchers - sell 2)

1) 10 complex electronics   - 540
2) 20 electronics - 300
3) Automated flak turret:  250
4) Weapon scrap and parts: 460 (can be used for uber gun repairs, too)
5) Advanced tools: ( we have some tools, but those are more metal working, that one for electronics. If it will not give us any bonuses for the repairs - spend on more resources) 610

Total cost -2160

a) try to upgrade that old turret with all that new electronics to make it capable to host the AI and improve it's sensors (if it will need fewer electronics then we buy, store some, but I intend it to act like AI's brains, when we will link it to the main system... Surely do not locate the core in the turret itself, only nearby)
b) Replace flak cannons of the turret with a pulse laser, one that carry a very serious punch for it's size, but goes like 2 second active\6 seconds recharging\cooling (or something like that)
That makes it's ideal to hunt small targets or weak points of large ships ( like shoot in the missile, destroy it with powerful burst, find new target spending that 6 seconds that laser needs to recharge )
c) Install the turret on the place of the missing one
d) store what is left from the original flak in the cargo hold ( At the worst we may sell it to one colony..... )
e) Make it easily turnoffable by analog means, and have a crewmember responsible for that

Part two:
Buy experimental weapon, place it on the place of one of the missile launchers
Buy emergency flare and load it in the missile launcher

Spend rest of our cash to buy anything we  need to repair\study the gun. Information\spare weapon parts\electronix\resources\whatever
Feel free to use any of our scrap\resources, including parts of disassembled reactor in the cargo hold for the task

Hope that  this will be enough to bring it to operable state...

But I insist on building the turret, we need a home for our AI ( Barring other thing, he can help to analyze the ubergun)
And point defense is always good. And the uberweapon is a long term investment

Thanks.

I most certainly agree with getting a home for the AI.

i dont like the last plan. i like plan A.
Same. I don't think that selling off missile launchers for cheap to buy an unknown weapon is a good idea...

I like plan C, or A more. Last one is a kind of compromise with GWG

Because yes, 500 is cheap

And this unknown weapon is... unknown

Just 3 general notes:
-You're replacing pretty much every part of the flakturret. (Different weapon, different targetting systems) Pretty much the only thing you're keeping is it's outer hull
-Advanced tools won't have such a large benefit.
-No plot stuff here. Nothing to important anyway.

Anyway, seems like we'll be going for plan A then.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

You transmit your orders and sale offers on the systems secure Intranet. A confirmation soon follows, and a bit later a small unconspicious cargo ship undocks from a nearby cargo lines. You hand them the money and the missiles, and they hand you your goods, no questions asked. After that, the crew sets to work with the new resources. The flak cannon is almost completely dismanteled. The barrel is replaced with a compact pulse laser system found amongst the weapon scrap you bought. The old targetting systems are removed to make place for the AI, and a small targetting and sensor dish is added. Most importantly is the primary power override, and the big red button it has been attached too. You found it a good idea not to tell the AI about. The reactions of the AI against this development are mixed. On one side, it's happy to have something to do, on the other, it really doesn't like being outside the main hull.

The rest is fine. Missiles are loaded and unloaded, weapons are primed and some last intelligence is gathered. Unless you want to buy some more stuff, or make more interesting and deadly weaponry, it's now time to leave this sector and go hunting pirates. Or maybe some other job, maybe the black market has something interesting to offer.
