Salvation : A Spaceship suggestion game [Poll]
« on: September 19, 2012, 03:46:34 pm »

Times are bad. Rampant piracy is endangering trade, and has locked up the entire economy. Everyone is struggling to survive, as food and fuel are becoming scarcer with the day. And you're the lucky ones. In other sectors, pirates have thrown out the governement and are controlling sectors with an Iron fist. Meanwhile, the local governements fail to intervene, focusing entirely on internal struggles.

In order to make a living, you and your friends have been raiding the local scrapyard. It's a dangerous job, as the automated security drones will open fire at everything they see, and most of the shipyard is not in a stable conditions. Burning wrecks are jumped in whitout warning, crashing through the debris untill they meet their end in a fiery explosion. Often you are lucky if you find enough fuel and parts to keep your small ship running, and pay for some food . Today, however, is different. You decided to venture much deeper into the Junkyard than usual, and Amidst age old hulks you found her.

An old and damaged, but still relatively intact Alliance Cruiser. These things formed up the alliance fleet during the war, now more than 70 years ago. The ship has the shape of an inverted droplet(Pointy side first), though somewhat stumped. Short, aerodynamic wings protrude from the side, allowing it suborbital flight, though you doubt it's capable of doing that now. The four dorsal and bottom turrets have been torn away, and several holes gape in the armour. The engines seem alright, and you can detect no damage in the structure of the shape.

You decided to board, and found out that both lifesupport and jumpdrive are intact, but that the control circuits are missing, meaning you'll have to fly on manual, as well as calculating the jump trajectories yourself. The main weaponry, consisting of 4 Lasers, and 2 small railguns has been damaged, but are still operational. Most of the power reactors are down, but you managed to salvage a single one. The missile arrays are operationall, but empty. No fuel is on board, but you did find a couple of  spare parts.

Now, what do you name your ship, what do you do first(Ie for example, repairs.), what do you do next.

Ship Name: Salvation

Actions:
  • begin repairs right away, use the scrap around the ship to aid in the repairs, and have two or so people constantly manning the sensors and weaponry in case of attack. Repairing weapons and sensors should be our primary goal.
  • Once we have finished any repairs we can get salvage everything nearby, inspect whats already onboard and take stock of that before making our way to leave the area.

Ditto, on the name and actions.
Possibly send one or two people to salvage right away, and have the others carry out repairs.
Focus on salvaging ammo, tools, fuel, food, and instruction manuals.
" hey, does anybody know how to fly this thing?"

I agree with adwarf.

I'll take a medic, named George William Gyralt, typically referred to as "Doc," "Will," or "OH GOD HELP!!" He was originally planning to be a genetic therapist, but then his homeworld's economy crashed and, many years and half an arm later, here he is, helping a crew working in an actively hostile and completely lacking in OSHA compliance. Will is glad that they night finally be going somewhere marginally safer, so he can get as much sleep as he needs. Will will help all he can under the direction of those who know how the hell to fix stuff.

I don't believe this is the sort of game where you "take" anything. This is a suggestion game - the lot of us are playing as one person.

I will allow players to claim crewmembers, though the game still focusses on the ship.

FTL inspired game? :)))

I claim Diana Banks. Charismatic female diplomat and "entertainer" for the crew

Repair life support, comfort is most important obliviously
Also, Diana propose to sell Rail guns, we don't have ammo anyway and that money can be used to purchase fuel

Claim Promtho (Pro-Mith-o) Expert engineer. He is a expert in any sort of computer system and he can almost build anything out of any scrap he can find.

Get the Sensors running. Then make sure the life support and reactor can handle this new strain on the system. If not do some short term repairs.

Selling ammo and making life support and reactors priorities make sense.

I'll take John Gibson, The gunner of the ship, A young man fed up with the labor of a working life, set off on a adventure aboard this ship.

Haven't watched Firefly, but I plan to do so at some point. As for the railguns, they can fire scrap, though that will reduce their firepower and might damage them.

So yes, FTL inspired.

Turn later, will make a list all characters at that moment too.

You decide that getting the ships sensors online is a priority. Unfortunately, when you prepare to inspect the sensor system, you find out that the room it was in has been completely depressurized, leaving little hope for the sensors. Most probably a micrometeroid or other piece of debris hit the ship during the many years it spend here in the scrapyard. Seems like you'll be relying on your small cargo vessels sensors for a bit longer.

Next on your repair lists are the ship's weaponry. Suprisingly, these are in exceptionally good state. Just connecting a few loose wires and tubes, and they are operationall. Some problems remain though. One operational reactor is by far not enough to allow continius fire, and you haven't got any ammuntion on board for either the railguns or the missile tubes. Luckily people rarely venture this deep into the scrapyard.

Since your single reactor is only capable of either running the lifesupport and engines, or powering either 2 of the lasers or all four of the rail guns, you decide it would be a good idea to look into that. Using spare parts you brought with you from a previous salvaging operation, you manage to get one of the reactors online. You'll be better of now that the lights don't flicker on and off every five minutes, and knowing that you can activate some of your weapons, if only for a short time.Lifesupport is doing all right. It manages to keep the temperature in check, and the air breatheable, but that's about everything that can be said about it.

You also decide to send out some more people to see if there' s anything to be salvaged in or around the ship. The derelict vessels around the ship yield little of use, only a few spare parts and plenty of damaged hull plating. The inside of the ship yields even less of use. The entire ship seems to have been picked clean. The Quarters are spartan, containing only the bare minimum of furniture, the cargo bay is completely empty, and from the Docking bays fuel tank remains nothing but scrap. There's also some stuff you too took with you. You have rudimentary spacesuits for all of you, and also have some basic tools and a few modified mining lasers, which you use to cut through hull plating. It's not the most efficient or clean way, but it works.
