Shia pipes up. "I would like to inquire about CosmoSuits, Battleskins, powered armor, as well as small arms. I haven't exactly seen what there is to offer outside of Sainto. And after last time I think we may want to be better prepared. We probably won't just be up against lizards"

I have no complaints about the story. Exposition is always nice--I like learning more about the world.

Talk to the AI in the turret in my free time. Um...about its past or something. Maybe chat about the future, too, and what the AI would like.

I like the combat system, I like the freedom in upgrading the ship ( stuff like that turret or converting dock place into a cargo bay). I love the world

Crew seems  too unimportant
And I want map of Salvation, any map, I just hardly imagine how our ship is looking

More internal events among PC and NPC crewmembers could be nice... I don't know, illness, conflicts, love stories, whatever to make the crew look alive. In Space operas crew is a center of the story, not ships. Yes, we players should roleplay our characters better, but some story hooks would aid

Another problem for roleplaying - we have no slightest idea  about how our crew is organized. Do we have a permanent captain? Some kind of weird democracy system with elected commanders? We aren't military, but someone must give orders, at least in combat situation....

Of cause captain shouldn't be controlled by anyone but a hivemind, but it would be nice to have a NPC who gives orders, assigns players to formal positions manages crew and so... Commanders are important in space operas. Look at any TV show

I am perfectly fine with that amount of railroading

Nah, just remind us from time to time that it's not a PC game and we don't limited to standard decisions like repairing only at proper docks or not changing. And try to stop us from doing something clearly stupid that all the crew know that it is stupid

I agree with pretty much everything UR has said. Yes yes on the crew stuff. That is actually what I meant with side quests. Some of the charm of classic games like Ocirana of Time is because, not only are you doing a massive quest to save the world and all that, but also you have the choice to chase chickens for bottles.

It takes the stress of of you, the shear mechanics of combat and grey continuity, allows for RP on both ends, brings characters to life, and frankly makes you love both your character as well as somebody else's, so when or if there is an injury or death, there is feeling behind it.

TL;DR more minor sidestories. If I go into a bar and flirt with a dude, I want to either be rejected or whatever, but I want to know what happens, not have what I'm doing be forgotten in the mess of (missiles were loaded and systems repaired, you are ready to launch, what next?).

But Railroading is just right, World is epic, storytelling is good, mechanics and junk is not over my head or hard to keep track of. At the moment, I would call the a Goldilocks Game. That isn't to say that the minor detail mentioned in the above wouldn't make it absolutely awesome, compared to just right.

I suppose you have to look at it like Mass Effect 1 did it. Yes there was combat but, you had the option to spend more time talking to people or getting exposition than blowing up robots. So you developed your character and when you finally did face that big baddy you agreed with what was being said because you have watched the conditioning and tempering of your character, both on and off the battlefield. Don't forget this is an RPG, not a simple shooter or hack and slash.

Great game over all. Will continue to play.

But crew mechanics is something that shouldn't be overdone, it's a flavour... I'd get disappointed if some minor crew issues would stall game like the AI ship quest did ( it was fun, but long)

I don't want overlydetailed sideminyquests for every player... That's a suggestion game after all. Just flavor, make crew something more than

Anyway, regarding our plans and action of my character

Diana spend her time chatting with pilots, crewmembers and, if lucky,  captains, looking for ones that stuck here, maybe someone got his ship overdamaged and have no funds to repair, maybe some crewmember  maybe there are a fighter pilot with own craft looking for a job, maybe there are bounty hunters that wouldn't mind to team up temporary, maybe some merchants that assemble a caravan to escort something very valuable, maybe some merchant who can be hired to act like external cragohold+some turrets, maybe even find a pirate who looks for new recruits

As for what to do next:  I'd say use up to half of our electronics\resources\scrap and 300 credits to upgrade cooling system of the lasers in attempt to make it less powerhungry and\or more safe to overcharge:
Better insulated wires, more efficient radiators  from better materials, better cooling liquids, better (more power efficient) pumps or other upgrades for whatever cooling system is used
Also, upgrade generic cooling (life support) in a same way

If we can't repair reactors easily, let's try to reduce our power consumption a bit

I disagree on spending money on EVA equipment, we have two nice suits, and bought personal weapons, that's enough for now, we have more pressing problems like power, propulsion and fighters

And let's save few hundreds credits for emergencies

Ow. Yeah. The thing I promised to do around page 15 or something. Working on it.

About the captain system, I dunno. Kinda your thing to decide.

As for minor sidestories. Noted. Maybe I'll try my hand at asynchronous storytelling to evade delays, though I'll try to limit it for obvious reasons.

There's a variety of small spacestations in the system, and you decide to dock with one of the larger ones in order to arrange your final purchases. You park the Salvation a small distance away from the station, and use the small cargo shuttle for the rest of the trip. It's a standard hollow cylindrical station, centered around it's main docking area, which is filled with all sort of ships, ranging from small one person vessels to large cargo haulers. You carefully guide the ship through inside the stations pockmarked hull, testemony of it's age and the danger of these systems, carefully drifting past the vessels docked on either side towards your assigned docking port.

The air inside the station is breathable, but that's about all you can say. The station is filled with people, and the inside is really showing it's age. Extensive remoddeling has been done to the original design, as there are small shops build from all kinds of scrap metal. It's here that you split up, and go looking for different materials, weaponry or simple a drink. Shia and David manage to track down a local arms dealer (Turns out that asking really works) near the innerworks of the station. He offers a variety of weaponry.

Diana spends her time in one of the various bars spread throurough the station. There's a large supply of drink circulating, apparently because some elder captain has decided to retire. His crew is currently feasting with him, but that'd be over by tomorrow when they need to find new work. There are others too, a young man sitting alone in a corner, and some other merchant who is currently drowning his sorrows over a bottle of Grog.

Meanwhile, shipside everything's going alright. George and  the AI are holding some kind of therapeutic session about the latter's past, though it's not very talkative. Apparently it has seen this station under construction, and is now busy telling most of it's history. This, while rather entertaining, is not really usefull, nor does it allow you to learn more about the AI.

The engineering crew has looked at the Laser's cooling systems, but has wisely decided not to touch them. After all, the primary cooling systems rely on a liquid nitrogen system running quite close to the systems lenses, which are vacuumsealed, and are better not opened. They do manage to install some more heatsinks and such into the secondary and between the primary systems. This should allow you to increase the Lasers power beyond normal for short amounts of time, or even turn of the cooling system altogether for a few seconds to safe on energy.

I think it would be in our best interest to get an ion grenade launcher and stun rods for the whole of the away team. That way we can disable non kinetic arms and machinery and also take prisoners more easily. These shouldn't be particularly costly. Do the grenade launcher come in rifle attachments or as a seperate weapon altogether? Do you have general fragmentation grenades?

16 decent space suits with 2 armor patches per, 20 incendiary grenades, 10 breaches.

The cost so far, including your team aseaheru, not including things inquired upon, is only 127 credits. We could make that selling scrap art (joking).

Also, how are the hull platings in relation to mass? I was considering buying a couple plates of military hull plating with spare credits to fuck with. (cutting and placing smaller plates at key locations on space suits, upgrading any drones we decide to make with an outside hull, Small cache for key locations, whatever.)

Which reminds me, in Firestar we had a drone we kept that drew fire and worked awesomely. If we wanted we could but some experimental e.s, military plating, and scrap one of our fighters, we have a techie to program the bastard and we just install a mount of whatever size we can manage while maintaining speed and maneuverability, there ya go. Suggestion for later. Could save our butts down the road.

I like the bit about drones. thats one of the things that confuses me. with a choice between a small, noisy, relativity easy to hit non-wrong ranged thing and a infinite range, high altitude, much harder to hit and nearly invisible i wonder why we chose the less useful option.
