How would you describe modern things for medieval people?
« on: August 23, 2012, 04:37:51 pm »

Let's call this some sort of forum game.

First person names an item.

Second person tries to describe it in a way that would make sense for someone who lived in the dark ages. Then names an item for the third person.

For instance, I say: "Tank."

Second person say:
"A turtle like dragon with a long neck. Its spit is deadly. Despite it's turtle-like looks, it can move quite fast."

Anyone who want to describe a gun? Any sort of gun will do.

It is a hand-held weapon which fires a bolt of metal via the power of fire. Imagine a smaller crossbow, but easier to reload, more powerful and easier to shoot.

Computer

Like a book but it stores many pages and changes to the pages when you give it instructions by pushing your fingers against little pressure plates on it.  These pressure plates correspond to letters in words, some words of which the computer will understand when used in the correct context.  It can have moving images like the moving statues in the legends about the ancient greek temples and the moving images will act out a number of plays like in the legends.  The computer send messages to other computers so you can write on pages with your pressure plates and send the pages to other people to see.  The computer can also do many very hard calculations very quickly allowing it to draw images instantly that would take a skilled geometer days or months to draw.

Haha, good one. I wasn't sure how to say that myself.

Quote from: Chesterton
For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

Tiny things you don't need to know about. They're up and down and strange and queer and stuff.
