Paprika gave a start and hid her knives in her clothes. She berated herself for letting her attention slip, but it ... well, the songs were just so pretty. She loved people who had artistic ability, even though there was so precious little of it left. Or maybe because there was so little of it. Sad.

She wanders a bit, carefully and without making any sound. It was a habit of her's, as the best surprises were the ones you did. However, she steps on wrong part of the floor and jumps as the plank lets out a long, drawn-out forlorn creak. She immediately composes herself and walks on as if she didn't just do that. On a whim, she plops herself onto a chair opposite the heavy-set man with a big gun, sipping something that could be smelled all the way across the table.

"Hi!" Her eyes sparkled, parts curiosity at who the man was, part curiosity at what the man was drinking, part admiring the big gun at his hip, and part just optimism. At what? Why, optimism itself! Of course, she wasn't stupid enough to be optimistic when the proof points to the practical victory of the pessimists.

"Uh... whatcha drinkin'?"

"...we got enough trouble feeding ourselves..." She says, with a resigned sigh. Kat hadn't made a decision yet. She needed to hear Rains idea on it.

Rain swirled the man's drink in her hands and leaned forward conspiratorially.  All the awkward hemming and hawwing from before was gone now that she was back alone with Kat.

"I don't think we'll need to worry about carrying him.  He seemed to be doing pretty well for himself.  He sure wasn't starving and his clothes didn't look half so beat up as mine.  Plus he could afford to come in here to spend and not beg like us.  Hm... oh, this is just the way mom used to make it!" Rain is pleasantly surprised by the taste of the booze before her.

"Besides I kind think it would be fun to travel with him.  He seemed nice to me and I've never met too many people who've traveled as much as him.  You're the only one come to think about it.  I think it would be neat hearing the sort of stories that he has to tell.  So waddaya say mom, can we keep him?  And do you want the rest of this?" Rain looked at her friend hopefully and pushed the rest of the drink across to her.

"Hi!"
"Uh... whatcha drinkin'?"

Ethan lifted the eyes from his cup and focused them on the woman across the table for some time before hanging his head and sighing. "Bitter Crucifixion." he answered her, resting the mug at the table and crossing his arms. "And what exactly are you doin' here?" he asked, staring at the girl that probably managed to fit in the "some loose screws" requirement to bother him.

Not like he was going to fight her off or anything, but he was genuinely curious as to why someone would join his table when he was very obviously not too interested in company. The fact the girl looked a little ditzy and walked like a cat (except for the big noise she just caused, of course) only made things more confusing.

Paprika took a sharp breath as she listened to the name of the horrendous liquor the man was so calmly drinking.

She muttered under her breath,
"..Crucifixion? Really?" without really noticing.

At the question, she tapped her cheek for a moment, then opened her mouth. She tried to think of a good reason, then closed her mouth. She said,

"I don't know, you tell me. What's your name?"

"I don't know, you tell me. What's your name?"

Stopping for a moment as if to ascertain whether she really meant her question or not, Ethan sighed once more before getting the mug back and taking another swig. "Do you want me to tell you? The reason is probably that you aren't exactly in your right mind."

He smirked a bit before continuing. "And why should I tell you my name?"

"Ooooh... wait no."
Paprika is almost taken in for a moment before finding her wits again.

"Why? Because I told you mine! Obviously."
She waves her hand to gesture ...something, but nobody knows. Not even herself.

Ethan all but facepalmed after she answered - no, he actually rested the mug for some time to facepalm. And there he was, thinking that would be a relatively good day since he had gained a free drink and no trouble had found him so far.

"You didn't tell me your name." he answered, already eager to just finish his drink and get away from the woman's questions.

"....Ohhh!"

Paprika slapped a hand to her forehead at her sudden lapse in thought and quickly says,

"I'm Paprika Lee. What's your name, now that I've actually told you mine?"

She smiled.

"Ethan." he answered, still a little reluctant and answering her smile with a frown of his own.

He didn't care about the first name basis thing. In fact, he preferred to avoid using his last name, and telling only his name to people felt simple and short enough. And he hoped his frown and short, uninterested answer would finally scare her away and allow for a calm, peaceful night.

Paprika stays at Ethan's table to his dismay, probably.

She sips at a bottle she has, and hums a bit. She glances at Ethan's gun.

"
"Also, uh... it's ... good weather outside, I guess? Dreary clouds, invisible radiation, baked and parched landscape, but not too shabby for post-apocalyptic weather, no?"

Paprika inflated her cheeks in consternation about the topic, then glanced at Ethan's gun again.

"Sooo.... is that for show, or does it actually have ammo?""

Much to Ethan's dismay, the woman stays on his table and starts humming. It seems any prospect of silent happiness was crushed by the woman's arrival, and it'll stay that way for as long as she wants to. She wasn't really being aggressive and he couldn't try to go rough on her.
"Sure, really great weather, whatever." he said as she remarked about the weather. Maybe she really had some problems of a mental order.

The young man's eyes followed Paprika's as she glanced at his revolver once then twice.
"Try it on your head."

"Oh, sure!"

Paprika steals the gun (maybe by Sleight of Hand?).

He noticed she was too...strange. Probably going to try and get his gun anyway, so instead of catching her in the act or having it subtracted by her hands, no problem in letting her check it already.
"No need to try slick fingers tricks on me." Ethan said while sighing and bonking her on the head with the revolver.

The revolver is a bit heavy, but not exceedingly so. "Raging Judge Magnum" is written at the side of the barrel, along with the three types of ammo it can originally fire: .45, .454 Casull and .410.
"You won't be able to do much with it anyway. Only one bullet in the cylinder." he pointed out. "It's heavy and solid because it is a heavy and solid revolver. It can work well in almost any situation, unlike most pistols."

Rain swirled the man's drink in her hands and leaned forward, speaking quietly.

"I don't think we'll need to worry about carrying him.  He seemed to be doing pretty well for himself.  He sure wasn't starving and his clothes didn't look half so beat up as mine.  Plus he could afford to come in here to spend and not beg like us.  Hm... oh, this is just the way mom used to make it!" Rain grins at the booze, and Kat smiles at that.

"Besides I kind think it would be fun to travel with him.  He seemed nice to me and I've never met too many people who've traveled as much as him.  You're the only one come to think about it.  I think it would be neat hearing the sort of stories that he has to tell.  So waddaya say mom, can we keep him?  And do you want the rest of this?" Rain looked at her friend hopefully, and pushed the rest of the drink across to her.

Kat took it, nodded and drank about a quarter-sipping slowly.

"I guess I'm getting too jaded in my old age...alright, if you trust him, I guess I can try as well. We'll travel on with him come morning.

Just have to keep an eye on him till he proves his caliber. Make sure neither of us is alone with him-he doesn't get to be the only one on night watch, that sort of thing. You promise to be careful until we know for sure, Rain?"
Kat asked, sliding the remainder of the glass back to her friend.

"You can have the rest-I might be doing an encore soon, can't afford to be too blotted out." Kat said.

"Aw, thanks Kat, you're a sweetheart." Rain smiles as she takes back the glass.  She gives it a sip and ruminates a bit more.  "I'll definitely watch my back around him.  There's nobody out here I trust but you, y'know."  Rain chases the rest of the drink down in one swig and flips the cup over on the table. "Well if you are on board with it I think I'll go see if I can catch up with our friend and give him the news.  Wish me luck, I'll try to make it back quick enough for your encore."
Rain headed out to see what the duo's new friend was up to.
