Don't badmouth Citadel paints too much. I have a really awesome-looking dwarf painted with those. I just wish I had a decent camera to take a picture of it.
Well I think most Golden Demon submissions have to be painted with like 60% GW paints (or some other arbitrary number) for elligablity. So they're not bad paints. It's more that they're GW expensive and the design of their containers is a bit poo.
My problem with GWS paints, other than the terrible pots and the price, is that I feel like I have to fuck with them every time to get the effect I want. Even getting as much excess off the brush as possible, it feels like it applies way too thick and fills in all the detail spaces. I always look at GD pieces and wonder how they get GWS paints to look like that. And my guess is that many contest winners use the bare minimum of GWS necessary and use far more inks and washes than base coats.
I do really like GWS Inks though, they are really nice.
On the Kickstarter.....I find it all kind of confusing. So I have to pledge the amount the paints would cost ($36 ish) to be able to get them? Or do I pledge more once the Kickstarter has ended and they send out their survey for what optional rewards I want? I have to say, as awesome as it all is, it's horribly laid out, which is probably due to them basically pushing their existing inventory through Kickstarter.
If someone could explain I'd appreciate it, as I don't want to miss the chance at $1.50 per bottle of paint. I pledged $15 already, does that mean I either need to pledge to $60ish to get the paints...or agree to pay another $35 once the Kickstarter ends?
