I could fill this thread with spiders and it wouldn't be any more hostile.

Alpha 1.0 means the barebones works and it's time to add content.
In DF, the barebones works and it's time to add content. Am I getting that right?

DF isn't even alpha 1.0! By that logic the barebones shouldn't even exist yet, it should just be some bitmaps of a dwarf falling down a pit.

Don't tell me I've been playing DF wrong all these years! D:

On topic, it looks like it has a lot of potential. If they were not prepared for a backlash from players for any kind of alpha release they were kind of just fooling themselves there. Point being they probably know it's a buggy mess. I'm not going to bother downloading it and testing just because it's an alpha. Maybe once it hits a beta stage or has some kind of multiplayer component that works moderately well I'll look into it again.

I think the important question is though... Will it have actual water physics?

I realize this is alpha, but they shouldnt release anything if I cant even get back to the main menu, I mean, sieriously, the main menu and quit game buttons arent even working! And besides that, I cant move the camera and I appear to be floating.

I think this happens to graphics cards that doesn't support DX10.1 .

It's not going to be "fixed" either, they use it. Unless I'm mistaken and it's something else.

What. Does DX versioning even work like that?... If the game didn't support DX9, it would simply not run and probably display some kind of warning... wouldn't it?

Fuck, even if I get a newer GPU and a newer OS that support DX10 I'm not going to play this piece of shit. Developers succeeded in completely turning me off their 'product'.

My source. Maybe I'm wrong and it's a different problem..

I really don't see why you could be upset over such a requirement, but it's none of my business.
You don't really seem like the patient alpha tester type anyway, I remember you freaking out after trying Smite too.

I Tried it, It was clumsy, a bit buggy and rather lacking in content, But it was not horribad like people say and i see a potential in it. They just released a bit too early.

Smite was perfectly playable, I just didn't like it as a game for ripping everything off LoL.

When games don't support DX9, they either display a warning or simply don't load. Letting the player generate a character, listen to the exposition, zoom and look into inventory, but not to actually play, however, is just pure dickery on developers' part.

The problem appears to be with opencl (according to their website). The would probably have to code in the error handling themselves.

An Alpha is still very much open to criticism, but I don't think describing it as a "piece of shit" is particularly useful or informative and seems a bit overly-emotive. Imagine how crushed you would be if your barely functional program you made was described as a "piece of shit". Now compare that to "it doesn't work, get *insert issue here* issue".

Especially considering the issue seems to be with your hardware (yes, they should bring up an error message, but if they are small (or tiny) group with no money it may be hard to test on other hardware).

They appear to have acknowledged the issue now, anyway.

They released this alpha. It's supposed to be playable. It isn't for a pretty large percent of people attempting to do so with a GPU older than ~4 years (because I got mine around 3 years ago) or WinXP. If they didn't bother to check playability of their game on a system that cannot be classified even as 'slightly outdated' or 'terribly rare', why should I have any faith in their handling of the game itself?

Alpha. Supposed to be playable? I think perhaps you are confused. :V

DF isn't playable? 'Alpha tester' is just a fancy name for people staring at a still image? Is that what you mean?

DF is hardly playable. I have not actually played in over a year bugs and lack of usable interface kill it for me. And just because it is labeled alpha doesn't mean crap. Toady could call it 'final continuous release version prime' for all the label matters.
