I got wheat working for me, so we have the option to put it in as soon as the votes are tallied. Also, I think the pole is locked >.>
And could you change my profession from 'Archer' to 'Marksdwarf'? I always get that thing mixed up. -.-

The poll was locked to allow us all time to appreciate the grave choice ahead of us I definitely didn't forget to unlock it I am beyond reproach good day!

Speaking of have you tried getting wheat in a world that was genned without it? I can't remember how plants work.

I just need to get a caravan and we'll see if I can buy seeds. I doubt they'll spawn naturally, though I have no idea what plant spawning is like, aside from trees.

EDIT: It's not looking like we can get seeds in a pre-genned world. -.-
Might as well try, though. There's no harm in it.

You could just add the biome information and change the name and descriptions of cave wheat that way instead of modding in wheat we're just changing cave wheat to exist above ground as well.

Hey, you can still dig to -1, right?
I think that's enough to make an underground farm.

Of course, we'll have to dump the rocks.

The first layer is clay and it's already been dug to create basements I'd sooner have cheaterish above ground farming than below ground farming.

Now that I think about it, It makes perfect sense for nobody to be selling seeds, the plants haven't existed before that point, right?
But yeah, I'll see if I can change Cave Wheat to an above ground item.

EDIT: Broseph, you magnificent bastard! It worked! Just fiddling with the names and we've got an above ground product indistinguishable from real wheat!

I want to have my dwarf in sooner than later, so if no clothesmakers show up in the next migrant wave or two, could you pick a random female dwarf and turn on clothesmaking on them?

I want to head the clothes industry. Me! Nobody else.

Journal of StarDust, Butcher-turned-broker & weaver
(the following were written on consecutive pages in the makeshift journal)

Remember those merchants I've talked about before that I've given a wheelbarrow full of clay to? Well the overseer just went to see me and ordered me to give all of the rope reed and wool thread to the merchants in exchange for some more stuff. He probably heard the merchants talking to themselves in the tavern, laughing about how the only thing we've given them is a clay-filled wheelbarrow. Anyway, I seem to be starting to get the feeling of this brokering job, although I would still prefer butchering and tanning to this.

Oh, and out of nowhere Broseph assigned to lead the weaving industry.
...
How in the world did he make that decision? I'm a butcher-broker, not someone who sits at a loom all day.

(next page)
I'm currently writing this from the comforts of a home. Yes, I now have my own house, and while it is not that spacious compared to my previous home in the mountainhomes, it sure beats getting chilled to the bone by the cold winds of winter while you sleep. The new loom is sitting quietly in the next room waiting for me to work with it, and I have no idea how it works. I probably will tinker with it tomorrow.

Some kobolds tried to steal from us a few days ago, and got chased off by Tahudjt. He said to me yesterday over a mug of dwarven wine that he prefers creating statues of people being frightened by vermin rather than chasing off random kobolds. I sure wish that he would not make a statue of myself.

(next page)
Broseph's reign as overseer has ended, and Nerjin eagerly replaced him as the new overseer. His first order of business was...surprising. He wanted to construct a "much more acceptable" house for the vampire dwarf on top of his own home. Why did he thought that was a good idea, I do not know. I personally liked him more trapped in that grave on his own. Anyway, work was being done on his house when an accident happened. I was not there when it happened as I was tending the loom, but when I visited the new hospital on top of the tavern I saw the vampire himself.

He looked just like a normal dwarf, only that he looked a bit pale for being trapped in that chamber for so long. He had a broken shoulder and his upper arm was broken as well. Nerjin the temporary medical dwarf said that he needs to be immobilized, but we would need stone and a mechanic to create the table necessary for the operation. I guess we will need to wait for another caravan to arrive to get the stone. It is a good thing that he cannot move, as moving him to the newly-built house otherwise would be more problematic.

It seems to me that Nerjin is off to a bad start. I wish the rest of the year under his leadership would not be like this.

From the Journal of Broseph Stalin

I can't say I agree with some of Nerjin's decisions. He's done some business to optimize woodcutting but he's also wounded one of our trustworthy workers trying to provide for Mebuy the man who is the greatest enemy we've overcome so far. Still, I can't say burying him alive was exactly easy on my conscience and I truly can't blame anyone for seeing it as amoral. So long as Sayacks can be treated without incident and recover I remain confident in my decision to turn power over to Nerjin. Things must improve, this savage aclove deep in the Parched Forest surrounded by open desert and haunted mountains isn't exactly attractive and neither is the idea of a Farming Town. If people come to question the leadership of The Persuasive Crafts the migrants will stop coming and our cause will die with us.

edit: I'm calling it at 15-3 in favor of modding in wheat post the raws Infinity.

He said it was from a staircase so I imagine it's Sayacks, there's a glitch where a dwarf removing an up staircase will stare directly up and drop logs on their own faces.

To change Cave Wheat into regular Wheat, go into the PLANT_STANDARD raw (if you've never edited a world already in use, go to DATA\SAVE\REGION(whichever one Murderfarmed is saved as)\RAW), and change
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
into
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
DO NOT CHANGE THE [PLANT:GRASS_WHEAT_CAVE], YOU"LL SCREW UP THE PLANT.

[Further extracts from Nerjin’s journal. The top-most left corner of the page holds a doodle of a bowing dwarf surrounded by dogs.]

2nd of Slate, 337

I noticed something… peculiar about my charges. They’re all soaking wet. As it hasn’t rained in a while I decided to observe from the nearly finished holding chamber [which WILL have a chair at the very least] What I found was a little odd. They were walking through the water. Straight through the river! I understand that we feel the need to get things done quickly but risky movement will only hasten our destruction. I ordered a new bridge built… Actually… Maybe I could set it so as to have this new bride house something of worth? Well I can’t exactly guarantee it but a vault would be nice. Well for now it will simply be a bridge home. I’ll set one of our homeless dwarves as a toll collector… Well less toll and more of just someplace to sleep. A river house certainly sounds nice.

4th of Slate, 337

I was misinformed. There is NO LOOM! Our wonderous friend Sayacks needed his wounds dressed today and yet we have no loom? I immediately rectified this decision. Also our ‘Confirmed Vampire’ is nearly ready to be moved. I will send along an escort just in case he tries to be sneaky.

7th of Slate, 337

I’m finally moving that statue over-top of our trapped guests ‘grave’. For a moment I debated on whether to give it to Broseph Stalin however… I think he won’t miss what he’s not offered. Instead the lovely river-room and statue will go to Sayacks! Once it is complete of course.

23rd of Slate, 337

I’m more than a little confused. Mebuy keeps stating that he simply can’t reach his containment unit. I think he’s lying. The floor over-top of him is gone as well as the statue now belonging to Sayacks. In other news the bridge is finished. Now I must see to it that the homes of our un-homed friends is taken care of.

30th of Slate, 337

Well in review this month I think my greatest accomplishment was not mucking things up any more than they already are. I managed to heal Sayacks a bit. Get our cloth industry into existence [although most will go towards medical purposes I’m thinking]. I’ve also managed to find that the floor and statue over-top of Mebuy was not necessary at all. He literally can’t escape. Well at least to others way of thinking. To me he is trapped until I can get someone to mine out a spot for him to walk to. He seems agreeable to his new quarters. At least as I describe them.

I don't think I ever redid the traffic designations when I made the bridge, I'd double check them.
