Tanks are some way off yet. Our current ground warfare approach is little better than the Mobile Infantry for the Starship Troopers movie...

we're screwed then.
Everyone, board the enterprise!

Turns 53 to 59

2546 AD

The Psilon appear to be under the impression they can bully us into a non-agression pact. We will not be isgning it for 2 reasons. One, they present no threat that the pact would prtect us from, and secondly they are the nerds in the playground to our jock bully. We reply as offensivly as they asked.

Spoiler: Bully us will you? (click to show/hide)

2547 AD

Revenant has been forced to kill himself. At least the Nommo will not know who it was that had been stealing thier technology.

Frigate hulls are in the prototype stage. These represent a signifigant step forward from Corvettes - though slow in comparison they can pack signifiganly greater amounts of weaponary around a more capable hull. We will have them ready for building next year.

2548 AD

General Warhammer has been given command of our first real expeditionary force - the First inanftry Coprs represents almost 6 times as many fighting men that took part in the hit and run attack on Thok III. They are heading back there to finish what was started. Comannder Happery has been assigned a small number of Cutter Carriers to provide space cover for this invasion.

Spoiler: Invaders! From Space! (click to show/hide)

Engineers have prepared a new range of hulls based anround the frigate design. They might be slow, but thier larger hulls can support more specialized weapon systems. In addition, the new Nuclear Engine is well suited to these hulls, so they will travel between star systems at a faster rate than earlier hull designs.

Spoiler: Laser Frigate (click to show/hide)
2 long range lasers and a sensor to target enemies. Far more dangerous than its corvette counterpart.

Spoiler: Gun Frigate (click to show/hide)
2 mass drivers - double the damage potential of the Gun Corvette.

Spoiler: Drop Frigate (click to show/hide)
Unlike the Corvette Dropship, this ship is capable of having a large enough drive system fitted to allow it to keep pace with our other combat ships.

2549 AD

The Meklar have challenged our presence in thok with a small squadron of ships - 10 in total. It is a ragtag mix of light carriers, missile ships and short range craft. Our single Gun Corvette is ordered to jump out. Before it can do so, a volley of missiles armed with nuclear warheads close, and detonate harmlessly on its shields - this is useful information about thier weapon capabilities. General Warhammer is ordered to hold in the Jobe system until we can remove this fleet.

Spoiler: Thok Skirmish (click to show/hide)

2550 AD

The Nommo come to us, seeking a non-aggression pact. We politley decline, as aggression might be a path we wish to take with them to ensure they dont overrun our oceans.

Spoiler: Some diplomacy. (click to show/hide)

2551 AD

Based on the designs used by the Meklar in our recent engagements, our scientitst have prepared a vacuum capable rocket which will be ready to include in ship designgs next year. Now we really can nuke the site from orbit, just to be sure.

Another corps of infantry has been assembled and sent to reinforce General Warhammer. Thok III appears to no longer be a viable colony, so the target has been switched to Thok I, which is still undefended but more heavily populated. A squadron of Gun Corvettes backed up by Laser Corvettes will form part of the attack to clear the system before the troops arrive.

2552 AD

Spoiler: Events this year. (click to show/hide)

The increase in research efficiency is most welcome. We have 2 promising technologies on the horizon - a weapon known as "Fighter Fusion Cannon" (a small yet high powered short range weapon whch throws packets of hydrogen plasma) and "Anionic Energy Warhead" (which uses a quantum reaction of some type to produce vast amounts of energy). These will lead to some interesting ship designs. We are also working on adapting the material used for hull plating as a ground troop armour, and have nearly finished designs for massive ground based batteries capable of preventing the Meklar squatting in orbit above thier worlds, like we have been doing to them.

Spoiler: Research Update (click to show/hide)

The Rocket missile chassis is complete, along with an updated sensor system using X-rays in highly direectinal bursts. Updated designs to follow.

The Nommo press us to further to improve our economic ties. We agree as the funds generated can easily be diverted towards subjugating those pesky Meklar.

The new world established in the Hayk system has been named Foundry. It is a cold world, with little in the way of natural resources, so it is designated as a heavy industry world. We have minerals to spare in supplying such a world, and it could do with some global warming. With time, it will be bale to act as a production centre for the isolated Hayk system.

Spoiler: Foundry (click to show/hide)

Following a number of recent tech breakthroughs, I have ordered a review of our ship designs. Below are current up to date schematics for our attack craft.

Lancer Class.
Recent developments have made these smaller ships viable combat craft again. Fast and very cheap, we should be able to build and deploy these in huge numbers if the need arises.

Spoiler: Laser Lancer (click to show/hide)
Little more than 2 laser cannons lashed on to a crew module. The shield system provides some combat survivability, but thier strength is in thier speed.

Spoiler: Recon Lancer (click to show/hide)
A flying sensor array. Nothing special.

Cutter Class.
Upgraded with the newer Nuclear engine

Spoiler: Laser Cutter (click to show/hide)
The same as before, just faster.

Spoiler: Gun Cutter (click to show/hide)
Fitted with a laser cannon to shoot down Meklar missiles as it closes in for the kill.

Spoiler:  Cutter Carrier (click to show/hide)
As before, with updated engines

Corvette Class.
A good half way point between specialized weapon systems and flexebility.

Spoiler: Laser Corvette (click to show/hide)
A high powered armour penetrating laser on a fast hull.

Spoiler: Gun Corvette (click to show/hide)
A faster version of the previous design.

Spoiler: Nuke Corvette (click to show/hide)
Exactly what the name suggests. Should prove useful in softening up worlds before invasion.

Spoiler: Recon Corvette (click to show/hide)
It takes a whole covette hull to support one X-Ray Transponder System...

Spoiler: Drop Corvette (click to show/hide)
As before, but with uprated engines.

Frigate Class.
These ships represent our most mission capable craft.

Spoiler: Laser Frigate (click to show/hide)
Well armed and capable of spotting targets at range.

Spoiler: Gun Frigate (click to show/hide)
Much faster than the previous version.

Spoiler: Nuke Frigate (click to show/hide)
With better sensors than the Corvette class Nuke ship.

Spoiler: Carrier Frigate (click to show/hide)
Still only capable of supporting 1 fighter, but with the ability to spot and track targets for said fighter.

In addition, a orbiting missile platform and in system missile patrol ship have been designed. Older designs have been made obsolete, but all ships will remain in active service as they are still more than useful in fighting the Meklar.

Spoiler: Hall of fame (click to show/hide)

Well, if my sums are correct, we would have lost around 15000 men in the debacle on Thok III. We will be invading Thok I (pop - just under 4 billion, undefended) with around 200000 troops, and a signifigant orbital presence once the Meklar fleet is cleared out. Taking the system from them will be a suitable payback.

Remember, a dead enemy is a good fertilizer for the soil!

Except the Meklar, who leave behind fresh new mineral deposits!

But most importantly, fresh recruits for our forces. Recruits that are 18 ft tall, made of metal, strong, fast and hard to kill. I plan to remove all humans from front line firefights eventually.

Is.... That a good idea? I mean one of the reasons for the fall of Rome was using barbarian mercenaries for the army instead of actual roman citizens

Yes, but these recruits can be fitted with Asmov Circuits.   :P

One advantage of playing as humans is being allowed to choose the representative line of governments. Basically these allow plenty of freedoms to citizens (signifigant production bonuses if you can provide for demanding citizens and cope with enemy spies)), but generate unrest easily based on typical factors (taxation, opression, security and whatnot). The Meklar are typically either a despotic or hive government, so any of thier worlds we take over will have massive happiness boosts once assimilation has begun, and they will be more than happy to enjoy our social freedoms in exchange for being useful citizens - i.e. almost 100% certain that they will never revolt. That, and I will ensure that all minerals are produced on worlds with minimal Meklar presence - they wont get far without thier source of food should they choose to rebel. Conversely any worlds we lose to them will probably rise up in arms and flames as our citizens kick shit out of whoever tries to take thier liberty, hamburgers and internets away. To be fiar the AI knows tis and will probably glass our worlds rather than invade as its too much hassle to assimilate humans.

Besides, what giant killer robot wouldnt want to become a killing machine? All we need to do is point them in the right direction and say GO.

Random side note.

I was having trouble loading the images in your posts because I have a plugin for Chrome (called Disconnect) that automatically blocks tracking content from social networks. Unfortunately, it looks like you're serving your images through Facebook and that's triggering the block. No worries and you don't have to change a thing, I can get around it by temporarily disabling that tool, I just wanted to mention it in case anyone else is having trouble loading the images.

Well worth it now that I figured that though. Convinced me to actually dust off my old copy of MOO3 and try the mod that you're using. I loved MOO2 all those years ago and this will go a way to bring MOO3 towards that level.

Turns 60 to 63

2553 AD
Agents from the Selene Colonial Directorate have left the Moon and begun setting up an outpost on Slkim VI. Seeing as the world is home to a valuable Psychotropic plant, I predict many others will follow suit looking to make a living out of it.

2554 AD
The Anionic Energy Warhead is in the final stages of testing. This will render nuclear warheads obsolete, and our missile ships will require a redesign shortly.

The Meklar appear not to be taking the threat of large numbers of infantry massing one system away very seriously - the 10 ship fleet protecting Thok has vanished. General Warhammer has been ordered to proceed to take control of the system with urgency.

2555AD

Spoiler: 2555 AD SitRep (click to show/hide)

The Psilon have offered an imporved economic treaty, which we accept.

Ground forces will now benefit from Titanium body armour - General Warhammer reports that this goes down well with the troops.

The SCD has taken control of Slkim VI and names it Eos.

Spoiler: Eos (click to show/hide)

Current plans are to turn it into a balanced world with a slant towards tourism, which should generate plenty of trade based wealth.

2 new attack ships have been prepared around the new Anionic Warhead weapon system, which is far more destructive than a crude nuclear warhead. If it were less expensive I would be tempted to use it as our primary combat system.

Spoiler: Warhead Corvette (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Warhead Frigate (click to show/hide)

Our system defense designs have been accordingly updated as well.

Our scientists tell me that the fighter fusion cannon will be ready shortly. More long term they inform me that a hull larger than a frigate will be availiable, and a weapon mount capable of weapons double the size of those we can currently mount on our ships is also in the pipeline. It would appear that our future fleets will be focussed around missile supported fighter groups, as our direct fire weapons research is not really leading anywhere.

Spoiler: Lab Status (click to show/hide)

General Warhammer's flotilla of ships arrives at Thok.

It soon becomes apparent why the Meklar chose to move thier fleet. Thok is now defended by 3 in system defense ships similar in size to our covetees, and a large orbital base armed with mass driver type weapons. As soon Warhammer's ships close into range, they focus on persuing our old and slow dropships. They are ordered to keep as far away from the Meklar as possible, while Commander Happery manouvers his fighter squadron to pursure.

Spoiler: Targets sighted... (click to show/hide)

Thie first Meklar ship is dispatched quickly by our fighters suppoted by some accurate laser cannon fire. It becomes apparent quite quickly that the Meklar do not have any shielding technology, which swings the battle in favour of our smaller ships.

The second Meklar ship is finished off shortly afterwards by a barrage of mass driver fire from the ships escorting Happerys carrier group. Its not all good news however as the third meklar ship has closed on an isolated transport ship.

The isolated transport is ordered to head back towards our carrier group. Our fighters close with the Meklar defender, and open fire, taking evasive action as mass driver rounds are returned back at them. Within moments the fighters laser cannons have turned the ship into a fireball.

Spoiler: Good work little guys. (click to show/hide)

With the transports safe, efforts turn to the orbital weapons platform. It makes short work of our fighters with its mass drivers, so Happery chooses to close in to take it out with close range weapon systems.

The immobile platform is a sitting duck, and is finished off with no further fuss.

Spoiler: Target neutralized (click to show/hide)

We now have a fleet in orbit above Thok I, carrying plenty of infantry. However, it appears the Meklar anticipated our attack, and have 4 divisions of infantry on the surface ready to meet our 2 companies - whilst we still have a near 3 to 1 numerical advantage, our past experience with Meklar ground troops has led me to seek a far greater numerical advanatge before an invasion can take place. More ships and infantry transports are en route to Thok, and more are rolling off the production lines daily.

What this battle has again illustrated is that we have 100% space superiority over the Meklar should we choose the battles carefully, and will continue to do so as the tech gap seems to have got wider especially considering thier lack of a shielding system. Thier weapon systems (nuclear missiles supposted by mass drivers) pose littel threat as we can shoot the missiles down and have fast enough ships to keep out of range of thier mass drivers. The gap between our ground forces has closed thanks to our repurposing of ship based systems for ground based combat, but they still hold an inherant advantage over us in terms of troop quality. Weight of numbers is a quality all of its own though.

Turns 64 to 72

2556 AD

The fighter mounted fusion cannon is finished.

Spoiler: Fusion Fighter Carrier (click to show/hide)

Carriers outfitted with the older laser fighter have been made obsolete, but will remain in service whilst we pacify the Meklar. Note the damage potential of the fusion cannon fighters - 4 times that of the laser cannon variant. The only downside is the complex weapon system is lagre in size, limiting thier deployment to carriers of frigate class. More ships are en route to Jobe, massing ready to support further incursions into Meklar held systems.

Another company of troops arrives in the Thok system, but we do not yet have sufficent strength to carry out an effective invasion.

2557 AD

The Psilon offer us a non-aggression pact again. As they present no threat we have rejected it.

2558 AD

The Nommo offer to upgrade our economic ties, and we agree.

Another company of infantry is formed and deployed to Thok. I am anxious that an invasion needs to happen sooner rather than later - for every company we deploy, the Meklar counter it with a division, more than matching our combat ability.

2559 AD

Spoiler: 2559 AD SitRep (click to show/hide)

Timed to coincide well with our new hull and weapon mount, I am told that improvements can be made to the optical engineering of our military lasers which could double thier damage potential. I await further developments with interest.

Spoiler: Codename Heathen (click to show/hide)

Another agent graduates from the training academy, and is sent off to Psilon territory. I have high hopes for them, and look forward to sufficiently advanced technologies being stolen.

2560 AD

Our new hull and weapon mount are ready, but new ships will wait until both the upgraded laser design and a hydrogen fuel cell based engine is ready - this engine could double our in system speed so is well worth waiting for. The new hull is too large to be built at existing facilites anyway, and an upgrade to shipyards needs to be designed and built before we can put any into service.

Spoiler: Tech Update (click to show/hide)

2561 AD

Spoiler: 2561 AD SitRep (click to show/hide)

Heathen has aquired a wonderful technology. Whilst we have chosen to make our weapons larger, the Psilon have made thiers smaller. The point defense missile chassis allows us to fit ships with short range missiles that could be used to shoot down incoming fighters or missiles, or even used as a point blank attack against other ships. Highly useful.

Spoiler: New Colonies (click to show/hide)

3 more worlds are being prepared for colonisation. Whilst Pi Mensae is already inhabited, the other 2 systems lie along the remote spiral arms and should be secure holdings.

In an interesting development, it appears the Meklar ships in Thok are not concerned with our presence as they are in conflisct with the gas giant dwellers - a squad of 10 ships is blockading thier border, no doubt causing the Meklar some headache. this explains why they are choosing to ignore our orbital presence and instead focus on a planet based deterrent. Long may this distraction continue.

2562 AD

Spoiler: 2562 AD SitRep (click to show/hide)

2563 AD

The Wesen system has been colonized. Wesen IV, or Furnace as it will be known, is a gigantic terrestrial body, but a lack of natural resources mean it will serve little purpose other than as a massive industrial population centre.

Spoiler: Furnace (click to show/hide)

The improvements to our laser cannons have been finished, and will be included in new designs once our fuel cell engines are finished. To this end, the fact that Heathen has stolen an Improved in system thruster design from the Psilon is pretty pointless.

More troops arrive to mass above Thok I. We now have nearly 5 to 1 numerical advantage. It is a shame that one Meklar soldier is easily worth 5 of one of our own. I dream of some revolutionary infantry weapon that would tip the odds in our favour. I am not sending huge numbers of men to die in a needless attack.

2564 AD

Spoiler: Island (click to show/hide)

Our own expansion efforts continue. Ahaouet IV now supports our newest off world territory - Island. This world is another ocean world with fertile and mineral rich islands breaking the surface of the vast body of water. Soon it will be producing a steady supply of food and raw materials to feed the rest of the empire.

2565 AD

A new spy has been placed on active duty - Skirmisher has poor stats, so will remain within our borders on counter espionage duty.

Spoiler: Ulundi (click to show/hide)

Pi Mensae now has 2 inhabited worlds with the colonization of Ulundi - a terrestrial world totally covered with a grassland not unlike that of central Africa. With low fertility and low mineral wealth, it should make a nice industrial hub.

With the completion of Hydrogen Fuel cell technology, all exisiting ships have been marked as obsolete - our new designs will be nearly twice as fast, with improved laser cannons twice as potent as earlier designs (which incidentally renders the ass driver useless in comparison).

Uprated exisiting designs:

Spoiler: Laser Lancer (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Warhead Lancer (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Recon Lancer (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Warhead Frigate (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Carrier Frigate (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Recon Frigate (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Drop Frigate (click to show/hide)

In addition to the improved hulls, a new class of ships has been designed, ready to be built when shipyard expansions are constructed. Destroyers are a step up in class from a frigate.

Spoiler: Laser Destroyer (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Warhead Destroyer (click to show/hide)
Spoiler:  Carrier Destroyer (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Recon Destroyer (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Drop Destroyer (click to show/hide)

All our new designs represent a signifigant improvement in speed and lethality from previous ships.

Spoiler: Hall of Fame (click to show/hide)

Current priorities: continue build up of forces above Thok, looking to break the stalemate and take posession of the system. Maintain blockade of Meklar Border systems.
