Ponder if using crossbows with extended ammunition stocks and varying types of ammunition would be feasible - explosive bolts, and the long range power of the gauss rifle, perhaps? Silent, yet efficient.
(I believe someone else around here was actually tinkering with a crossbow/bow before. It's definitely possible. )
