(([...] Oh, and the main problem with VR-like persona simulation, I think, is the hardware constraints. [...]))
((Hardware isn't really a problem on the ship - a VR machine can simulate people and have them solve abstract problems (such as, for instance, "catch the serial killer"). And Spinal Taper had the idea of simply hijacking a VR machine wirelessly during a mission to have an AI provide assistance off-ship, which could definitely work. However, programming an AI from scratch without using the VR might be far more difficult. Not sure if Steve will allow it, though. Who knows what might happen when the HMRC crew tries their hand at AI crafting.
And the whole thread discussion explosion can be traced to several factors: firstly, mesor had several ideas on how to apply his character's Aux skills, secondly, robots and AIs are awesome, and thirdly, I can endlessly blither on about a whole lot of things.))

((We don't have to program our own though. The computer has them pre-programmed. Faith, I think, got beaten by the Armory Master, then Faith, then Milno, all AIs already in the VR.)))

((Faith did testing with Arbiters, Avatars, robots, and Milno. Feyri was the one who got beaten by AM. Someone else finally tried AM vs Arbiter, and I forget who tried just nuking AM, sniping through her shield, etc.))

Ill just take an AI and upgrade it and download it onto my tablet to take with us on missions.
((This assumes an entire AI will fit on your tablet. And that you know how to upgrade an AI.

Also, what for?))

Mesk yawns, disappointed by the relative lack of carnage.
"Hey!  Guy with the laser rifle, quit waving that around!  You'll put someone's eye out.
"Hey!  New guy who's bleeding all over the place!  You don't need a med bay when I'm right here.  Lemme see what's wrong with you..."

((Also, what for?))
((Fun! But the actual basic idea is that after seeing the VR simulation of mission 5 with the AM, there seems to have appeared a demand for a "What Would The Armory Master Do" device. With a hijacked VR it should be possible (practical, even), once the data-gathering phase of the process is planned and implemented. Otherwise, I think there is very little use for an AI on a mission aside from very few specific situations.))

Warning - while you were reading 57 new replies have been posted. You may wish to review your post.

Geez.

"Fight, fight, fight!"
Watch the fight and cheer at appropriate moments. Imply that at least one of the parties insulted Jim's mother.
You reposition yourself on the couch so you can watch the fight a little easier.

"HE SAID YOUR MOTHER WAS A WHORE!"

"I'M A CLONE!"

"Uh... WELL HE SAID YOUR TEST TUBE WAS IMPROPERLY CLEANED AND HAD UNSIGHTLY STREAKS ALL OVER IT."

"YOU'RE REALLY BAD AT THIS."

"I know."

Watch fight, get Steve to record it.
"You getting this steve?"

>You say that like there's ever a time I'm not recording. By the way, that time you ran around the ship naked? Yeah, got that too.

Walks over to VR system and downloads the Jamming program to it then heads to the armory and gives the armory master the tablet to hold onto
There happy now?
Now can you tell me where the med bay is im making quite a mess dripping blood all down the corridors.

You store your program on the VR's memory under your name and then head to the armory and hand in your Datapad.

"You know you've been stabbed in the stomach, right" the armory master says, taking the blood streaked tablet from you.

"Aw, no fighting? Well, better get back to the entertainment."
Aside from this magic "oh baby" phrase, what other things can I glean from this program that could potentially improve my magic?
Pelvic thrusting  seems to be important. And Nudity. Nudity is very important.

"It's down the hall. Ask Steve if you can't find it. Now don't go getting Steve all pissed off again in the future, ok? It's bad for both your health and mine. Come on Jim."

Go back to the gym and exercise some more.
You walk back over to the exercise machines and try to decide which one to use.

Backs away No thanks i think ill go to the med bay i havnt had the best of luck with other people.

((An AI should fit onto it if it dosnt ill just have to get an external memory card of some sort to store it on but id expect the tablet will work. And my character is built as an auxiliary system specialist so i have the skills for it i just need a good roll.
Ive got a few uses for one im gonna need 2 AI and both should come in rather handy for my purposes.))

Walks down to the med bay to have my injury tended.

I think I have learned all I could from this esteemed master. I can't wait to put all this knowledge to use! But first, more TV.
Replete with fresh magical expertise, change the channel to something mentally relaxing, yet viscerally stimulating. Not these educational programs with their dry lessons on how to improve one's warlock-y abilities.

((Wise move. Is that because you're aware of Mesk's reputation or you just don't trust crewmen on matter of principle? :P

As for the AI, that would imply that the tablet is as powerful as your brain. Technically the simulation might cut some corners or otherwise be simpler than the real deal, but that's at least the ballpark. That seems unlikely even before you remember that they use actual brains for the more complex stuff. Like Steve.))

((@Harry Baldman Ah, sure. Didn't think of the possibility to just use the Paracelsus's Sword computing capacity; might have a few problems with time lag, though, but hopefully the concept is sound.
@mesor As for pooling tokens - we are allowed to pool tokens in a case where it would benefit all of us, e.g. buying our own shuttle. Probably not applicable here, though.

Now that this kind of questions has finally been raised,
@piecewise Are we allowed to bring up sentient companions, and how are those to be treated? And what degree of control may we have over such companions whose personality is based on our own? (e.g. making a robot governed by a VR simulation of yourself/another player, or by an AI you specificly wrote to be as close as possible to your own mind (in terms of categories, ethics, hopes and wishes, frequently used lines of reasoning, etc.)) ))

He follows Cloud.
"No wait, look, my prices are really cheap, ok?  And I've only had... well only a slight majority of my patients have died under my care.  I'll fix up that stabby knifey thing and in return, all I ask is... oh, two fingers.  I'll choose the fingers, you can choose the hand."

((I think Steve said that you can have a harem of your own for all he cares. Slaves and such are A-OK with him, I'm sure sentient computers wouldn't receive special treatment.))

"Nope sorry i think ill try the med bay first im attached to my fingers."

(( Ill sort the AI or VI out first then ill see if i need to upgrade my tablet to handle it but since im going for a normal AI not one like Steve the tablet should do it.
Also GM can we get like an implant directly into our brains?
What he said about it requiring a human brain got me thinking maybe i could make the AI and intergrate it into my own brain and then connect it upto the HUD network to allow it to send and receive information to the whole team ))
