Desmond paced a bit, feeling natural claustrophobia set in. He pressed the button to floor 3, hoping it would work...

And if it didn't...

He knew it might be easy to climb out of the elevator, but he didn't want to risk jostling or dropping the bomb...or collapsing the elevator into the shaft.

He pinged his radio.

~"Anybody out there? The Elevator's lost power...and I'm stuck in here, caught between floors...with an unconscious man and a bomb I'd rather not try to climb out with."~

He wondered if the signal would reach his friends...

Action: Inspect the suitcase and the man carefully. Determine if it's a bomb, or what?

Then, press the button to floor three.

If that doesn't work, radio for help!

I hope Ires is safe.

(I turned emergency power back on, and the 'open doors' button worked. Maybe you should try pressing a floor button too, just in case? ^^^)

Turn seventy-eight!

Spoiler: Maps (click to show/hide)

Agent Maxwell hangs back slightly, still invisible, until the cab stops, at which point she rushes forward and [5+2] throws the guy through the back-door window and out the other side onto the street, [5] where he lies unconscious.  A few cars swerve to avoid him, but traffic continues as normal as Jenny turns visible and cuffs the man.
Agent Fortmüller sighs and speaks to Lisa as he scans the two briefcases again, trying to find any objects that could be a timer.
"Well, I'll try once again and pray we are just wrong."
"Right. I'll get Steel Wall if you find anything."
"Well, Desmond may be good in dealing with kinetic energy, but if these things detonate, I'd need to help as well, since explosions have fire.  And the worst part is that we don't know exactly what exactly this thing had inside it.  I just hope that if those are bombs, they have common material inside them."
Nicholas turns back to the Warlord's monitor.
[6] NO ELECTRONIC OR ANALOGUE TIMERS IDENTIFIED.
Agent Conners gets ready to call Desmond if Nicholas finds anything, but he doesn't, so she doesn't, instead keeping the suitcases away from each other and the crowd away from the suitcases.
Agent Reon reports.  "I've found nothing important, and the guards say there are no other people that have been sighted except from what we know of.  And this strange digital floor indicator."
She then hits the up button.
Agent Green hits the 3 button and paces, trying not to panic.  The doors squeal shut and the elevator rumbles upwards for a few seconds, stopping to let Ires on, and then takes them both up to the third floor.
As the elevator's moving upwards Desmond does a careful search of the man and the suitcase.  [hidden search check] He doesn't find anything on the man except a cheap suit, and has got as far as determining the suitcase is a suitcase when he notices the faint humming emanating from it has gotten louder.

Nicholas huuhhhs.

"Well, there are no timers on these ones. So there are high probabilities there are no bombs here, unless they activate by opening it. Why hasn't anyone called an anti-bomb squad?"

Nicholas calls the Central and moves on to help any teammate who expresses need.
"Can we get some bomb specialists here?"

(Like a fuggin' boss! :D :D :D)

Jenny lifted the man in a fireman's carry and carted him back to the others, discharging energy as she went.

Ires was surprised to see Desmond in the elevator, along with a strange man and a nice briefcase.

"Oh, there you are Des! Was that man one of the workers or someone who fainted fro-

"Do you hear...something?"
She approached the briefcase.

Inspect briefcase, then react in the most sensible way to what's inside.

"...let's be careful opening it. Anyway, I'd hate to think I knocked out some random clock maker who likes to bring his work in with him every morning..." Des commented idly, yet cognizant of the fact that a blast would probably level the floor they were on.

But, Desmond was prepared to shield Ires, if it came to that. He probably wouldn't survive it, but she might...which, was good enough for him.

Action: Assist in checking the briefcase. If it DOES look like it's going to explode, shield Ires with my body and absorb as much as the blast as I can.

"Right, I'm off to check the building for any more possible bombs left over and to have a quick chat with our captured suspect. Let us know if you need help."

Head back inside and check the atrium for left over suitcases, bags, things that could carry a bomb. Then go find my prisoner from before and have a nice little chat with him about why he attacked me and what's in his briefcase.

Re: Roll to Be Heroic - Turn Seventy-Nine! In which Ires reacts sensibly.
« Reply #777 on: June 22, 2012, 08:30:28 pm »

Tiruin: see for yourself, hopefully.  And now turn seventy-nine!  Wait, two turns in two days?  What is this, some sort of regularly-updating game?

Spoiler: Maps (click to show/hide)

Agent Fortmüller radios Mission Control.
"Can we get some bomb specialists here?"
There's no response.
Agent Maxwell lifts the unconscious and cuffed man and carries him inside the building to let the guards deal with him, glowing like a nonspecific religious figure all the way.
Agent Reon greets Desmond as she enters the elevator.  "Do you hear... something?"
She takes the suitcase from him, places it carefully on the ground, and flips the clasps.  So far, so unexploded.  She gingerly opens the case, and sighs in relief at the lack of a bomb.
Agent Green stands close to Ires as she opens the case, ready to throw himself in front of her if need be.  Instead, he recognizes a crystal virtually identical to the one found at the mob warehouse all those weeks ago, which is humming loudly and emitting a dim, slightly warm red light.  The crystal is held securely in place within the suitcase by multiple crudely-welded iron bolts.
"Huh... weird."
Agent Conners, unaware of what's going on up on the third floor, opts to do yet another sweep of the ground floor lobby, which is by now empty save for Jenny and a couple of security guards sitting on a pair of unconscious bodies in the corner.  [hidden search check] She finds someone's purse by the elevator, which is devoid of bombs but does contain a wallet with twenty dollars still in it!

"Hey. Can you interrogate this guy for me? I'm... not really good at the whole intimidation thing," Jenny said, dropping the hapless idiot so Lisa could deal with him. She stuck around nearby just in case the other woman wanted some help, though.

Interrogation tiem!

Help Lisa interrogate the man, namely by showing how sharp the axe is and how his crotch would suffer if the blade of the aforementioned axe was accidentally dropped on top of it.
