The initial plan was to take points Charlie, Bravo, and Delta… combine together into a powerful spearhead, and plow through the enemy center all the way to their FOBs. We expected that the Soviets would attack us along Foxtrot and Echo or perhaps even try to flank us all the way to Charlie so we would respond accordingly to enemy action. My force would be a balanced screen force focused on protecting Nilocy's heavy armour assets. So my army is focused on infantry, light vehicles, and close-range artillery.
When we arrived at Delta, the enemy already took Foxtrot and hadn't moved since then. So we assumed they were digging in at that position. Furthermore, since they used their command vehicle from the spawn to take Foxtrot, it was a safe assumption that the enemy would have a significant numbers advantage from not buying any extra command vehicles. To this extent, we now needed to scout and clear the forest east of Delta to protect the flank of our spearhead. You can see here the infantry squads and recon moving into the forest.
We run into the enemy's vanguard, a flock of Hinds, and the enemy are also sighted mobilizing to our left flank. We’re getting boxed in. The recon and infantry we send into the forest easily shred the helicopters to pieces with barely any losses, but I change our strategy to smash through the left instead of going straight up. At the same time, we both move forward our AA to deal with the retreating helicopters.
After dealing with the helicopter threat and while moving into the enemy's right flank, the scouts we sent through the forest ran into the main body of enemy forces there and we see very significant troop numbers as expected.
Now, as we are moving through the left, we are ambushed by a large number of AT infantry hidden in the left forest, the small defending tank force, as well as the right side's large tank divisions. Furthermore, the enemy's remaining helicopters will also flank in from the right. This doesn't change the plan, we still continue pushing through the left, and to that effect I had arranged for several squads of infantry to crush the small tank force there, entering from the south, and to clear the path. Meanwhile, the main body would fight a retreating battle, keep forward armour facing the enemy T-62s, and destroy them as they come.
We successfully took Echo without any real losses and begin purging the forest that was infested with AT infantry. We start getting heavily bombarded by serious enemy artillery. About 16 pieces of heavy artillery start shelling our uncovered position and we are low on ammunition. I call in more infantry reinforcements as well as supply helos to fix things up. We ignore the artillery for now, as there's nothing we can do about it yet, and just artillery without a ground assault to back it up isn't particularly frightening.
The enemy counterattack hits from every side and is extremely severe. We didn't expect them to have this many forces remaining. Furthermore, these aren't the crappy T-62s that we fought earlier, but upgraded versions with very accurate ATGMs, armour, and main guns. A far more significant threat. Furthermore, the artillery bombardment now hits with incredible force as he can finally spot the targets. We take some serious casualties and Nilocy advices a retreat into the forest. As you can see, most of my screening forces are almost wiped out by the initial wave. Most of Nilocy's forces are still intact though, and he manages to pull back with no difficulty. I on the other hand… have a plan.
I pull my remaining forces up onto the ridge so they can't be seen. At the same time, I order in some Heavy Hog helicopters while charging 8 brave infantry squads into the bulk of the enemy to buy some time.
The infantry bravely reach the enemy tanks. Dismount, and unleash hell. Not only do they buy time, but those 80 men destroyed the bulk of the entire enemy army. Now the enemy has barely any tanks and nothing to attack us with other than artillery. Their sacrifices will never be forgotten! Not to mention our helicopters have arrived to the left.
Shoot the enemy command vehicle…
Game over!
