um.... Two thirds of the scavangers look for resources.  The other third should look for tools that can be used as weapons. (axes, sythes, stuff like that)

Problems to be resolved:
- Farmers farm what. At the moment only 1 field of grain is sown. Will you replant the vegetables or do something else.
- How much builders are there. Is it only the builders or do the engineers count to?
- Small group of soldiers. How small: 3, 5 10, 15 ? Do they take weapons with them or not.
- Where do you people scavenge: Rubble piles/ Science lab / outside ? How much people scavenge and whom.
- In which direction do you scout and who scouts ?

This game is based on rolls and whitout exact numbers I can't roll anything.

Farmers keep growing grain.  Scientists scanvange the lab for resources.  All but two engineers scavange wherever the hell we got the farming supplies for tools that can be used as weapons.  Builders fix the towers, and the other two engineers help them.  As for the soldiers, I'm not sure yet.

You took the farming supplies with you from the Bunker, which is now inaccesible due to a lifesupport failure. There're only just enough tools for all your farmers to work with.

As for the farmers you need 5 of them per sown plot. For now 1 plot is sown and 3 are empty. ANd you have 15 farmers.

Grow grain in the second plot, and vegetables in the third.  Have the engineers look through the lab for a backup generator.

Still missing some things, like how many soldiers go gathering water.( Which is important, as they might get attacked)
Also, it would be nice if you could sum up all the actions in one post.

Update tomorrow.

If someone can please organise all these partial suggestion and present a plan with numbers, please do so.
Otherwise I will need to do it, and I will not choose the optimal course of action.

These people seem to instinctivly trust us, why else would they dissasemble their heavy weapon while being ounnumbered by people with guns.
for these people - i would offer to help them how we can (medical attention first up), if they join us and share what they know.
They are obviously are not without means of their own, as they can't have lived in those cars for the entire time we were in hibernation

water:
8 soldiers go, ask if 2 of the new soldiers would go, if they take the heavy weapon (set it up in a cart so that it can be fired quickly)
(5 guns, 3 cart people +2)

we need to plant 1 lot of vegies, or in 4 weeks food gets interesting

Ask where they came from, and what do they know about other people around us.
We should be truthful about our situation, as we are basically self-sufficient, and clearly capable of defending ourselves.

Quote
Find out where they came from.  If they have some sort of home base, where is it.  If it isn't superior to ours, offer to let them join our group.  If they have a base that is superior see if we can trade.
Spare people should search the labs looking for:
1) some type of generator (preference goes to solar cells and some type of battery system - 1 hr per day of runing the fence of our choice, but not fuel cost.
2) we are going to need some type of way to shape metal so either we need to make contact with the local industry, or we need a higher level power to do it our self. - for that end, a solar furnace would be useful - melting scraps for which we can pour into molds. (the initial suggestion about knowledge of people around us also helps here).
3) IF the people who have just rocked up agree, We need water - 1 trips with the carts - to provide us enough water for next week, ask some of the soldiers who have come in to go with them, as they have local knowledge (offer up to half the water in return, if they want it). (this also means that the group is split so turn on us)
4) any spare scientists should examine the posibiltiy of getting into the old reactor.
we need about 50 water per week to be self-sufficent atm, so 1 run bringing back 2 carts (the third carring the heavy weapon)
...
How is housing like?
We should search the science base for things to trade (it is our base, we could probably find things of value casual scavangers missed)
and finally, i think these beats should be called Leukrokottas (http://www.theoi.com/Thaumasios/Leukrokotai.html)

Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.
Hell if I know.  Pretty humourous suggestion, but utterly useless in the case of roleplaying, if indeed the whole game world was one whole huge ass field of fruit.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

17 Soldiers + 13 soldiers: Defend the gates(7 ours armed, 10 them armed)
25 scientist+ Us search the labs: Preferred findings: Generator+ Solar furnace
5 Scientist: Enter the 300 meter deep underground bunker without ligh or air to search a damaged nuclear reactor
12 Engineers + 12 Builders + 5 other engineers: Repair the gates.
1 builder: Cook the ape meat and taste it
15 Farmers: Farm
Water Gathering team: 10 soldiers( 8 ours, 2 others), 3 carts, 1 A-T cannon, 5 weapons

Their leader agrees to have her men work with you for as long as they stay, but they won't accept any suicidal orders. They are travelling merchants, always on the move from one colony to the other. Her convoy used to be much larger then this, but a lot of vehicles were lost in the attack. However, she declines your offer to stay. She has seen multiple colonies being destroyed, be it by wildlife, bandits or internal struggles. Despite the recent events, she still she's safer moving around rather then staying.

She also agrees to tell you about your surroundings. This place used to lay in the middle of the Amazonian forest. Not many people live in these surroundings, because of the isolation,the scaricity of water and the dangerous wildlife, which you've already met. There's a large fortress downstream at the Coast. It's a fairly large settlement, with over 2000 people. They managed to salvage some of the old technologies and rule over their immediate surroundings with an Iron fist. They also organise frequent raiding parties, although these don't often occur in these regio's, because of the isolation.
There's also a small colony to the south, where a few hundred people operate an old iron mine. Last time he saw them they had a minor food shortage. That was where she was going next. However since the Leukocrats destroyed their trucks and ate their food shipment, she would like to buy some food when she leaves. She would like 300 food and is willing to give you the heavy weapon and it's ammo in place.

After the meeting you gather up everyone and give them their orders.
You and most of your scientists set out to search the labs emergency power generator. You find it but it's badly damaged. It runs on natural gas, of which you can only find a small half full tank. You also find a lot of scrap.

5 of the scientist enter the bunker in order to search the nuclear reactor. They have to return before they can even go deeper then 25 meters, as something is blocking their path.

The engineers set out to repair the gates and manage to improve them while they're working on it.They added some spikes  in order to ward of any further attacks like this. They also manage to patch up the NW watchtower.

One of the builders cooks and tastes the ape meat. While it isn't very tastefull it does seem to be edible. Meanwhile the farmers plant some more wheat and vegetables.

The water gathering team sets out, armed with Rifles and a heavy weapon. They are ambushed by 12 of the mutant apes, but they do manage to see them coming. The soldiers mowed the apes down before they could even reach them.  They took the meat with them.

Other group( You can command these, but they won't accept any suicidal orders)( 3 weeks left)
15 soldiers(  10 armed)
5 engineers
6 drivers
4 civilians( including leader)

Re: You are rebuilding civilization ( Suggestion game) Mutant apes killed: 12
« Reply #104 on: February 24, 2012, 04:34:35 am »

The builders build a tank with that scrap - just a standard water tank would do - flat bits of metal welded into a cylinder , even 1m x 1m x 1m can store 1000l, so a 10,000 l tank should be easy to do.

We agree, as long as they eat out of their stores. If they agree, ask if they would act as trading partners for us, and take an extra 300 food on to the other village which had a shortage. (medium term aim, provide a stable trading partner, so they can come and go through us repeatedly, long term aim, integrate them into our camp, and use them as friendly contacts with the surroundings.)

estimate of food supplies: have 360+60 food now
+110-130  -> 400
+275-130  -> 545
+275-130  -> 690 (traders leave with 210 +300)
-510 -130 -> 50 food.

problems:
short term:
At the moment every week we need to go for water.
Humans / other intelligent creatures will not charge our 1 fortified gate.
long term:
These wonderful seeds of ours won't last forever, how many planting cycles do we have, or should i assume we are harvesting enough out of the crop to keep things stable.

<will possibly post more later - my priorities for searching the lab are still 1) power 2) machinery for metal shaping>
