You are in a Volcano, now with double the art
« on: January 29, 2012, 01:07:39 pm »

Quite a bit of time has passed since the time when I totally did not abandon "You are in a Volcano", so decided to start a new thread. And just to recap:

You are a phoenix. A near-immortal magical creature of quite imaginable power, but having a lot of power anyway. A cross between a fire elemental and bird. Through your veins runs a substance whose closest non-magical equivalent is napalm and you are constantly radiating heat, thus violating the laws of thermodynamics. You are a creature of magic, and thus not bothered by such things as a requirement of food, air nor water, but you do like warm places.

Now for more specifics, your name is Eluc'dir the Eater of Dagon, you are a breed of phoenix known for being particularly in touch with their elemental side, you are capable of temporarily shedding your physical form, and becoming pure fire. If there was such a thing. Fire is more of a chemical reaction, so it would be weird to be that, but thats how the elements are set up, and you gotta follow them.

During your life you have destroyed a factory, that should not have existed in the setting of the story, and took a nice long nap to teenagerhood. You feel ready to take on the world! You feel like you could destroy anything! IT WILL ALL BURN! AHAHAHAHAHA!... I do believe you are experiencing the effects of the phoenix equivalent of hormones. Maybe you should take another nap until you are more mature? No? Fine. Have it your way.

(phoenixes have the uncanny ability to glow without actually lighting up the area)

You awaken from your slumber, feeling better than ever. Magma is more comfortable for sleeping in than one might think. You fly out of the volcano once more, but with some difficulty. The volcano expended everything it had in the explosion in which you were born, and is now cooling. There is already a layer of almost solid rock on top of the magma. You fly up into the sky, and see that the wind has for a large part gotten rid of the clouds of ashes, and brought with it the cold air you might expect from the north pole. Its seems you must travel south to warmer areas. But that sorta hard, since every direction is south from here.

Your getting older has unlocked knowledge deep within you. Apparently you are on something called a "planet", with a bunch of "continents" on it. And these continents have "places". On second though, you already knew all that crap from the start. Dont you look silly right now?

So, where do you wish to go?

-Venusia: An endless bog. Some say there are mountains and stuff too, but they are full of crap. All the locals are of a relatively low tech level, and easily manipulatable. You could buy gold for toothpicks there, heh, silly locals, valuing practical stuff over shiny rocks.
-Frozen hellhole: You are already here. Contains such wonderful things as ice, snow, and cold. Not the best place for a phoenix. Why the hell were you even born here?
-Ibatrea: The nondescript continent, features forests, mountains, clearings, swamps, the whole thing. Looks awfully like a starting area, and is way bigger than all the other continents.
-Helvarcis: Not really a continent, but a crapton of tropical islands. May or may not contain pirates. Hosts the highest tech humans on the planet, as they have mastered the art of building clocks and clocktowers, but they seem to have forgotten how to build bridges.
-Erentis: Almost as nondescript as Ibatrea, if not for the fact that it contains the last surviving goblins and elves. Considered the best place to go if you want to learn magic and/or get killed by goblins.

And on a different note, what do you actually want to do when you arrive?

Name: Eluc'dir the Eater of Dagon, a level 2 teenage phoenix
Health: [100/100]
Type: Elemental
Heat: Cold.
Traits:
  • Elemental Phoenix: Phoenixes are technically already a crossbreed of birds and fire elementals and it is best to leave how that happened unspoken. But some Phoenixes have the ability to turn into a more powerful form, where they are composed purely of fire and gain a bit of size. Quite the fire hazard, but has the plus side of looking awesome and giving the ability to breathe fire, both literally and in the dragon-like fire breath way.
  • Phoenix Immortality: Phoenixes are practically immortal, upon being killed they turn into ashes and upon collecting a sufficient amount of heat, are reborn.
  • Fluffy Feathers: Phoenixes actually look quite cool, especially when they are filled with phoenix hormones. Possibly so cool that it inspires awe in people.

You look around the volcano. Nope nothing flammable here. At least you dont think water of any form is flammable...

You then start on the long journey to Ibetria, the home of the nondescript. You fly above the clouds, sometimes below the clouds and occasionally even in the clouds. Once in a while you even create the clouds if a bird crosses your path and you set it on fire. Soon the ice is replaced by water, and after a longer while of flying, land. Finally. You were getting tired of all this flying over nothing.

You finally reach Ibetria. From this place you see a beach, a forest directly behind the beach and in the far distance, some mountains and a clearing. It all looks very scenic and flammable. Well, not the mountains and the beach, but the forest looks flammable. You fly into the forest with the intent of finding something to cook. You dont need to eat, but hunting is still fun. Finally you come across a bear.

The bear is slowly patrolling its area. Not that theres a point to that. For some reason there arent any other bears in a very large radius. It ponders on that for a minute, before noticing that he is in fact, on fire. He runs some laps until it runs into a tree and is knocked unconcious, but that does not last very long, as he quickly transform from a bear into a cooked bear.

You take a seat on the warm and cooked bear. Feels way better than the blizzard up north. Perhaps now would be a good time to think up some long-term plans. Maybe set everything on fire, maybe enslave everyone...somehow, maybe even start a trading company and sell tea to people who live on the other continents? Or you could just seek out a human town and see what happens?

Cool picture! ;D
also, by experience, feathered wings looks better with several ranks of feathers. Only one is not 'nuf.

Was literally my first attempt at making feathers. Just making several layers of feathers remained untested.

You think about maybe taking after dragons, would be cool. Enslaving people sounds cool too. And there is always that nagging feeling that everythihing should burn. But that shall be left for the long-term. You decide to start off by finding a human village.

You rise to the skies once more. The bear was comfy, but was starting to burn out. You fly along the coast until you come across a small fishing village. A fire burns in its centre, apparently some kinda party.  You land in its outskirts and simply walk into the village. You attempt to look your best, and make your feather look positively fabulous, and you really gotta beat that pyre they have built.

You quickly gain the attention of all the partiers. Theres 12 of them, and they are all twice as big as you. Fighting big fat guys and little guys in green had pretty much shot your perception of yourself to bits, apparently you are half the height of an average human. All the humans stare at you. Its actually quite creepy. After about a minute or so, one of them runs off screaming something about the destroyer and the end of the world. You suspect he is crazy.

This situation lasts for a while, until everyone finally snaps out of it, and half the people run off after the crazy man. Half remain. They turn around and stare at the fire, and then back at you. They decide that you are a friendly phoenix, surely. With no plan of burning them to a crisp, no, phoenixes are not known for doing that. They call you over to the fire.

You go to them and join them at the fire. You are mesmerized by its glow, and are lost in its fiery beauty, at least until someone hits you over the head with a rake. It seems that while you were busy with the fire, they had gotten all the weapons they had. Mostly rakes and a spade. The village idiot brought a fishing rod. Theres 6 of them in total, and they are currently surrounding you.

Whats the battle plan? Not that you would really need one. You once launched yourself with a rocket explosion, rakes arent much of a threat.

half the height of a human? that's quite a BIG bird already.

Do these villagers attempted to NOM you? SACRILEGE! BLASPHEM!

THEY SHALL ALL BURN!!!

Jump into the fire, extend your wings, looking awesome, and then shriek as hell while you turn into pure fire, and subsequently take off, flying around the village, putting all buildings on fire, then the villagers.

Make, as best you can, the following face at the villagers:
:I
Ignore them. Turn back to the fire. Man, that is one sweet sweet fire. Look at its luscious coals, those seductive flames, why, you could just *CENSORED* that fire all night long.

Nuke, I dont know if you knew if you were actually referring to this, but they do actually breed like that. Cept with a slightly bigger heat source. And people, get some consensus, do I seriously have to combine every suggestion I get?

("You think this was a bad idea?" "Yes.")

You gaze into the sweet fire. It calls out to you. You cannot resist going into it. To the amazement(they are not very knowledgeable) of the villagers, you simply walk into it, and take a comfortable position in the shape of a ball that actually looks relatively cute. You adjust your position slightly and look at what the villagers are doing. They arent really doing much. They seem to be freaking out over the fact that they were ready for battle, and you are just taking a nap.

After a while, they get busy with something. You arent quite sure what they are doing, but they are carrying buckets back and forth, so you could guess. After a while all of them approach you with a bucket in hand, and pour their contents onto the fire and by extension, you. It doesnt work particularly well. All of the water instantly evaporates, and villagers are left shocked at just how little their attempt did.

You decide you have had enough, first with the rake, and now with the water. Screw this. You become one with the fire, making you considerably larger, and incorporeal. You then lash out at the nearest person, setting him on fire. He runs off screaming. Apparently they are uncomfortable with high temperatures. You then take off to the skies, and circle the village, leaving streaks of fire behind you. You make the most rude gesture a bird made of fire can, you let out a blinding flash, and begin the process of divebombing into the villagers buildings.

You take a steep dive, aiming for a hut. You pull up at the last moment, meaning your tail end touches the ground and leaves a mark behind, showing your path. You then fly through a crappy wooden house at a high speed, making it burst into flames, and leaving behind a gigantic scorch mark of your shape. You then pull up again and repeat the process until the entire village is a burning wasteland.

The surviving villagers have fled for the forest by this point, and you go after them. You pull straight through the rows of trees, clipping a lot of them and starting a considerable forest fire. You finally reach them and before they know it, are all engulfed in flames.

You return to the still burning village. You are quite tired by this point, so you come out of your fire form and land in one of the larger wooden building. The fire warms your phoenix heart, and you take another nap. Tomorrow might be a more successful day. You fall asleep.

What will the next day bring? Attempt again at a proper town? Find a proper lair? Find out where the 5 people and the crazy dude ran off to? Find the Dagon, and eat it, thus fulfilling your title? Or maybe something else?

See if you have a means of going incognito (invisibility, standardized bird form, human form, etc.), for a change of pace.
