You can hold back on the flamey goodness, and just look like a really big bird. But it gets sorta cold without the fire.

how about a coal mine? Nobody ever heard of Coal Mine Fires?
Coal can catch fire while still underground, if mining shafts provide enough air. Big mines can burn for decades, releasing lotsa heat and also toxic gaz, but I think firebird won't care about fire smoke.

Isn't there some town in America that's slowly collapsing because of an Underground Mine fire that's still burning?

Also, similair things can happen to some types of peat soils .

Seems more art is needed. A lair deserves it, and way more practise in the art of photoshop is still needed. To be updated tomorrow.

Feel free to add anything. Whetever you search near a large city, or in the middle of the woods or whatever. I was expecting you to seek out a volcano or something, not to create an equivalent. Then again, I shouldnt be suprised by that stuff after someone decided to stuff the Devil into a chest.
