Quick status update, as the base was busy cleaning remains of blueshirts and operatives, the soldiers went to extract BFEL from a covert operation. She owe her life to her modified legs, and we lost two squaddies because, like an idiot, I forgot to give medkit to supports.

But otherwise it's all good. Squaddies are the new rookie now, Rince Wind and BFEL got promoted, with BFEL reaching colonel.

At the same time I threw Darkening Kaos into the vats for modifications. I want a few solid squad sight snipers to shoot from high grounds.

Your genetically modified pheromones have granted you control of the pool hall and the bar, good job!
On a side note you survived a point blank laser shot without armor, and the wound was gone before the mission's end (adaptive bone marrow). Central insisted that you still have to go on sick bay however.

I will kill the alien scum! /robotic voice

You punched an exalt heavy. You are also on sick leave while the technicians take out the poor guy's out of your suit.

.....And I guess I shall be soaking in alium gel for the next few days......

You volunteered. At least that's what Dr Valheen told me... You're all volunteer for augmentation right? Good.

YOU SHALL NOT PASS!  *dies of plasma allergies*
Base defense is a good day to die.

We are all here to mourn the loss of Captain Tongsletter, our sniper from the land down under. Died in the field of honor during the unfair attack from the invader.

Our dear doctor is still recovering from the discovery that the mechtoids could speak english, in particular the one who yelled "I hate you bloody campers, everybody hates you!" after the cruel act, ignoring Chilong who armed a rocket. Rest in peace Adil, for you have been avenged. Zhang could not be with you for a final good bye as all most of his bones had to be immobilized but his spirit is here with us.

We will remember your face, now that you do not have any. Your photo has been added to the memorial as well as sixty shots of vodka. Considering that we are ten, you will excuse us if not all of us are standing now.

The legacy you leave us all is full of missed head shots and mumbling as all good australian snipers are known for. Your brand new skeleton suit and your laser rifle will be passed on to our newest hireling as it is the tradition now in the base.

Goodbye Adil Tongsletter, we now lay your spirit to rest, in the bottom of the cave.

Throw the ashes.

Edit: Downed a supply UFO. Went well, Sentient Bowtie shot a berserker, panicked so he shot him again. Earning a promotion.

Next up: Dam mission near Lille, France.

Speaking of Mechtoids who ignore things, I once had a support armed with a conventional assault rifle suppress a Mectoid during the base defense mission.  It kept shooting at him and missing while ignoring everything that was actually important.

My gunner (and officer) got shot while in high cover, was down to 1 HP. He supressed the two mechs (danger zone ftw!), who, well behaved gentlesectoids that their pilots were, stayed where they are and let the rest of my team shoot them to bits.

I later lost a rocketeer in that mission to heavy floaters.

Volunteered?  It is most likely that I have been bugging Dr Vahlen from the first day the idea was proposed, and eventually progressed to demanding that I be a 'test subject'
What genemods do I have, btw?

Depth perception for now, I am going for a few high cover squad sight snipers that can shoot a muton's head off a mile away.

And in fact you were out of the vat in time for the Dam mission. And indeed, getting you in the towers and enjoying 100% hit on disabling shot without even being in range got me through without losses. Only Sentient Bowtie who took a plasma crit.

Also special mention to the King of Stary Skies who's "Activation du module de combat raproché" sent a mechtoid flying into the river. People of the ch'nord freaked out when they fished the remains at the beach, but heh, that's not the AO and therefore it's not my problem.

The soldiers are now acting together pretty well, the only problem is that I lack supports badly. I have to give medkits to heavies. There is no way to tell what kind of squaddies I want to hire right?

And everyone, let's give a warm welcome to Anette , a perfectly fine woman without strange powers. She is a quite normal sniper without the ability to have your brain leak from your ears. Bienvenue parmi nous, Anette ! Please don't kill me.

I also manage to give myself adrenal neurosympathy so I can buff the team further and complete BFEL's mods, with bioelectric skin, neural damping, secondary hearth and reactive pupil, (in addition to bone marrow) that'll be 12 days of downtime well spent.

Scriver is also in a tube for depth perception.

No, but new recruits are decently cheap so just hire a dozen and then you'll have spare troops for when the shit hits the fan.

I'll probably do that asap, then take supports on missions to level them up (and use the others as expendables).

By the way, I looked back at Oldcom and discovered the amazing thing that is xpiratez so I'm playing two xcoms games at once but that's fine. Well, besides the fact that I see time units and covers whenever I close my eyes.
