Alchemist: Moonshine with Yuif
« on: December 19, 2011, 09:50:00 am »

So, you want to become an alchemist, do you? Let's see...

1. All novice alchemists are required to complete an apprenticeship in a trade of some sort. I trust you've done that already?

A. Yes, with a miller.
B. Yes, with a brewer.
C. Yes, with a smith.
D. Yes, with a cook.
E. Yes, with a mason.
F. Yes, with a merchant.

2. What about magical training? Have you any of that yet?
A. Yes, in curses.
B. Yes, in enchanting.
C. Yes, in wards.
D. Yes, in divining.
E. Yes, in wortlore.
F. No, no magic.

3. Here, draw a card out of this deck. Just one. Take a good look at it. What'd you get?

Pick a number (1-10, jack, knight queen or king) and a suit (wands, rings, cups or swords).

4. Very interesting. I suppose I can give you a chance. Tell me a bit about yourself. Name, age, where you're from and the like.

A suggestion game with a twist! Instead of tallying votes and doing what is most popular, I will randomly select one person per question and take their answer, no matter how foolhardy or unpopular it may be. Note that there are no wrong answers to these starting questions, so feel free to pick whatever you like without worrying about what benefits it may or may not give you.

C, B, Knight of Wands.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Well, except for the knight of wands part - I wasn't really sure what card to choose. I completely agree with the above. I'll let someone else make the first name suggestion.

Yes, with a cook.
CURSES!!!
Queen of Cups sounds very... elegant.

I am Lex, I don't know where I am from because my parents abandoned me at a cooks house when I was very young.

In the last Alchemist game I single handedly turned our PC into a Horse with no way of changing back, making it a non-standard game over. Time for round 2. :P

As for my votes...

D. Cook
B. Enchanting

Queen of Cups does sound elegant. I vote for that.

Also, since no one has suggested a character yet...

Name: Leo Kline
Age: 24
Place: He was born in Italy, raised in Greece, lives in London. Leo gets around. He can talk fluently in many languages because of it.
Personality: Leo is an oddball, a goof, a dunderhead and utterly luckless. But, he's essentially a good kid, honest to a fault and genuinely brave, if a little foolhardy. He is dedicated to beoming an Alchemist-mostly for the money and power, and possibly women that come with the field. He's really hoping the last one pans out...Women are attracted to flasks and beakers, right?

The meaning of your Status will become clear in time.

Status:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Leo Kline is your name, and you are 24 years of age. Originally an Italian, but a frequent traveller, you've studied abroad in hopes of being accepted as a student alchemist. Your training has made you into a passable enchanter and a serviceable smith. Your former masters both liked you well enough, but privately thought you to be a bit clumsy and more than a bit lazy, but essentially honest and kind. Your Greek remains excellent after all these years away from home, but you only know a smattering of Italian from your early youth. You're also passable at German and slowly improving with your English while you stay here around London.

But enough about you! There is work to be done. Your new master expects proof of your skills, and you have the rest of the afternoon to prepare. First, a cauldron. A small one for now, about two gallons. The metal is up to you, and the master said that any sort of material would be suitable for now. The question is what to make it from...

You'll also need to demonstrate a charm. The question is which. You still recall a few fairly well, but the rest are fuzzy. There's illumination, of course, you could do that in your sleep, but maybe something special is called for? Unlocking? Levitation? Repairing? Maybe even a simple summoning? Maybe not that last one, but until you're sure you'll not flub it. Alas, if only you'd studied harder.

Create a cauldron, then enchant with a water summoning enchantment.

Dang, I would have changed my vote to cooking. Oh well, maybe we can do both someday and be a PASTRY KNIGHT... or something.

Anyway, how about we make a bastard sword of summon dust mite. We shall name him Stewart, and he shall be ours forever. If we have the extra time and skill, it might be worth also putting an illumination charm on the dust mite, or if that's not possible then on the sword. Who knows how useful a shining dust mite could be!

Your muse briefly about enchanting your cauldron (once you make it anyways, you've not even decided what to make it out of yet), but then remember your very first lecture (more of a rant, really) on enchantments:

You want to enchant the hat to do what? Where in the world did you get a foolish idea like that from? I teach enchanting, not artifacting. Enchantments are strictly temporary spells, made to bewitch objects into obeying your whims. For a limited time. You can use enchantments to make that hat wash and dry itself, to make it glow, to change in colour, size, weight or fit, to sing you a song, or even to get up and dance around, but you're wasting your money if you all you want is a hat that will-

Well, let's not get into want we wanted the hat to do. It was a foolish flight of fancy, just like you're having now. No; there's a cauldron do to and a spell to cast.

Is it at least easier to "refresh" an enchantment on something once we've gotten good at the enchantment?

I suggest a +copper cauldron+, and casting +summon lesser lesser water elemental+ (that's not a typo)
