Just curious what a "normal" or average fps rate is for a developed fort, and what people consider the minimum they can tolerate is.

When I'm mass-pumping magma up a 46-level stack, I find one frame per two seconds "acceptable" - enough to fill a large reservoir and then leave it alone as much as possible. I rarely get above 14 in a good-sized fort, though.

I get ~250 FPS when I first embark, and around 70 when I have 200+ dwarves. Even as high as 70 starts feeling a little crawly to me, after it starting out to fast.
As to what I'm willing to tolerate, my old computer ran at 40 or less, so I can deal with that if I have to.

I run without FPS even showing, so that should be a clue.  I'm an extremely patient person, so I could probably stomach pretty bad numbers.  I suspect my last fort got down to the teens, but I never tried turning FPS on to check it.

I used to play a very inefficient, 150+ dorf fort comfortably at 8-15 fps. With the new Intel I5 I bought I haven't complained because it's been incredibly high (~100) on a 120 dorf fort that was really inefficient. The only exception being when a dragon set my pastures on fire and the fps plumbeted to less than 1. Turning temperature off worked to fix it, but the game remembered what temperature things were so it would start up again if I turned it back on.

I guess I'd still feel alright at 20 fps...

The poll needs a 8-14 category, just to cover normal operation of forts like Failcannon.

I prefer small forts, I like to know each dorf intimately as it suffers, so when it dips below about 20 FPS I ragequit,

anything above 10 FPS is acceptable to me. My current fort gets around 15-17 when everything is running smoothly.

I prefer playing at around 70fps but find 30 tolerable for general gameplay (i.e. I'm not currently doing something dwarfy and slow-motion-worthy).

I don't really want extremely large forts, but it restricts me a little when it comes to mechanical toys
