"We should stop the killing. If what Urist said is true, then they will be gone tomorrow", Toaster claimed.
"
But what if they lied? Can we really trust them?", whispered Think.
"Oh, sorry, but I couldn't hear you", commented Urist with a smug grin. "Something wrong with your voice?"
"
Wha- What did you do to me? You witch!"
"Why, thanks for the compliment." Urist's smile grew wider.
"
Why you...!"
Think couldn't take this mockery. The
Vigilante pulled out his trusty knife, and charged towards the
Crone. However, Native Foreigner tripped him, causing the blade to fly out of his hands, landing before Urist_McArathos' feet. The Crone picked it up.
Native, the
Witch Mother, picked up Think, holding him by the arms. Urist took the weapon and walked towards the grappled Irishman.
Powder Miner, being merely a regular
Townsperson, began fearing for his life and fled.
He held the blade at Think's throat, asking "Do you know what is going to happen now?"
"But you said you weren't killers!",
Toaster objected.
"Precisely!", Urist replied, pulling away the knife and turning towards the
Inquisitor. "We do not kill."
He stored the knife in his pocket, and Native let go of Think, dropping him on the floor.
"I merely wanted to make sure that none of you were going to pursue us. With the elves gone, we have no more reason to stay here. We will not meet again."
And with these words he and NativeForeigner left for the city gates, leaving a dumbfounded Toaster and Think behind.
That was all weeks ago. Toaster and Think had been arrested for repeated burglary and murder, respectively. But because their efforts managed to eliminate two, maybe even more threats, and because all of Think's victims were possessed by elves, they got released pretty quickly.
The priest only arrived after the witches have left, so with the two of them being the only ones knowing the truth, the official story is that the two of them had chased away the witches, becoming sort of local heroes for the city.
Simon McTurlough had joined the Church, replacing Vector as the ringer of bells. Every day and night he rings the bells, signalling that God is watching over this city. He doesn't get paid for it a lot, but he's happy that he can be of some help. He also goes around helping the needy, and has become one of the most-liked people in town.
Edmund Thorne, having proven some skill in investigation, joined the town police as a detective.
He know knows how to identify actual clues and how to interpret them correctly, and is currently investigating the death of Samuel Parris' wives.
Samuel Parris himself was unaware of that, of course. He kept working as a clothier, as if nothing happened. Eventually news will spread across the city that his wives died of illness, and he will be a lot less secretive when people stop bugging him about the subject.
The witches, in the meanwhile, have returned to their homes. They resurrected Jack, who now is the Queen of Elves. She is busy keeping the fickle folk at bay, which due to their unpredictable nature is difficult, but with the help of the other witches she manages to be successful.
Urist, having been to hell and back, is busy making notes about the nature of death, which will eventually be important lecture for the following generations of witches. Eventually she will die, but she's not too bothered by the prospect, since she knows that this world is safe once more.
Native, being less busy as the other two witches, keeps dealing with the occasional supernatural threads that pop up from time to time. Just recently she foiled the attempted summoning of an ancient, evil demon that would have been able to destroy entire countries.
And with that the story is over. There is more to tell, but that is for another time. Maybe. Potentially. We'll see.
The witches have won the game. Twice because of Christmas.Witchchat:
