13th of Felsite, year 106I have received some deeper information regarding the injuries of the Golden Depressions, specifically why they have their right hand injured. It seems that it really is some kind of ritual that each member of the squad must receive so serious wound to their right hand that it becomes useless. As long as the soldier's right hand is working he is not considered as real member of the squad. Nobody knows or at least don't want to admit who invented this ritual but this is how it works.
Also, I just received the news that we might become duchy this year. Duke Kipi, that sounds really nice! Also, basing on the rumors brought by the latest migrant wave, the queen is actually considering making us capitol and moving down here. Is she serious?! We must start the construction immediately then!
15th of Felsite, year 106One of our smiths brought me the latest artifact created here in Combatbronze. And what the artifact was? No less than chain made from adamantine!
There were several decorations, like picture of one of the slain goblins in it. And the value, oh boy! Over seven hundred thousand bucks! This is extraordinary!
17th of Felsite, year 106The fallen humans decided to pay us a visit... again.
The battle was fierce but our warriors were able to slaughter the invaders. Only one of our pets died during the process, the poor honey badger decided to join the party. Of course it had no chance of survival against the fallen humans. Derm and Bowie took some injuries, probably just some flesh wounds again. At least they kept on fighting, so I think it's nothing serious.
21st of Felsite, year 106Right after the ambush came the elven caravan. Five merchants arrived this time, only to be slaughtered by our soldiers.
It's kinda miracle they keep sending more and more traders here, surely they have already realized SOMETHING is happening to them. But we don't mind, it's free stuff for us and good practice for our soldiers.
28th of Hematite, year 106Eight dwarves arrived at our gates today. And can you tell where they were coming from? Yes, from mountain home! Where in the name of Armok do we need this many dwarves?
7th of Galena, year 106The construction of the residence for our queen is going well. The area has been cleared and the construction of walls has already begun.
The plan goes like this: The walls shall be made from iron, the floors of each room will be smoothed and engraved. The northern room shall be the dining room, southern will be the bedroom and right next to them is the throne room. Behind the throne room shall be the personal tomb for her.
All the furniture shall be made of adamantine, with the exception of the bed. The hallway leading to the residence will be adamantine road and there will be iron statues lining the hallway. Every section of the ground which is not covered by road will be smoothed and engraved and the outer walls shall be lined by iron statues.
I know all of this requires huge amount of metals, and our furnace operators are working hard to produce everything. Our smiths should start the production of the furniture any moment now.
23rd of Galena, year 106Drows decided to ambush us today. Unfortunately, due the construction of better entrance, one worker was trapped outside and thus slaughtered by the drows.
After a small section of the wall was teared down our soldiers rushed outside to slaughter the evil drows. Unfortunately, not everything went well. You see, few of our archers decided to join the battle as well, but not behind the fortifications. No, instead few of the decided to try to bash the enemies with their crossbows. This resulted three deaths, two babies and the archer Conchobar.
Fortunately the drows were slain, so the threat is over for now. We will mourn the loss of the four dwarves, and it's especially sad to say that our military took the first casualty in our history.
14th of Limestone, year 106Our entrance is finally ready!
The bridge we have above ground is now connected to the series of tunnels. There is currently two tunnels and thus two entrances: The first tunnel is very short and shall be used by merchants and migrants only. The second tunnel is filled with cage traps, giving us a fair warning before the enemies reach the bridge. This way we shall also have the means of filling our stockpiles with prisoners, which in turn can be executed by our soldiers and used in live practice.
We can control which route must be taken by two levers which have been connected to small bridges at the junction. Most of the time the longer route is only open, forcing the enemies to get past the traps before reaching our entrance. If we want to let migrants or traders through the short route we can just pull the levers and the route will be changed. Clever, let me tell you!
27th of Limestone, year 106Why? Oh WHY?! Why there are more migrants coming here? Didn't I make it clear that we don't need more dwarves?! And did they listen me? No! Ten more dwarves arrived today! What the hell I'm going to do with them?
26th of Sandstone, year 106The majestic area has been mined, the walls have been constructed and all the loose stone has been hauled away. This means we can start smoothing the walls and floors immediately.
18th of Timber, year 106The caravan and the liaison came today. And with her the liaison brought the news that confirmed the rumors; our fortress shall be elevated to duchy! Duke Kipi, I could have only dreamed of such title! She also confirmed the news that the queen is considering to make our fortress the new capitol of the civilization. We only need to fulfill certain requirements, and of those requirements only two remains; offer enough gifts to the civilization through the caravan and improve our road values. Well, the first can be fulfilled immediately and the second one won't be a problem either as the adamantine road leading to her majesty's personal area should be enough. Oh the glory!
So, after I was finished with the liaison it was time to see the caravan once more. First of all I gave the leader of the merchants the offer required by the queen. Next we bought all the bolts, metals, wood and alcohol we were able to get. This deal took more or less all the crafts we had hauled inside, but I don't mind. We can always produce more and the enemies will bring some new clothes to be sold.
17th of Moonstone, year 106This is terrible!
One of our archers died today to thirst. Nobody knows why she didn't go to drink, she has been spending her time in the bedroom for some time and today her spouse found her dead. She was in full health and there was no obvious reasons why this happened. I fear she went insane but we can't be sure anymore.
6th of Opal, year 106Another artifact has been created! This time it's bed made from pink jade.
The main decoration in the bed is the picture of Nix, slaughtering a viking during the siege. It's a well made picture, as is the whole bed. It shall be reserved to our queen!
21st of Opal, year 106Now that our archers are missing two soldiers it was time to promote two of our warriors to that squad. Now the squad is back to original strength.
6th of Obsidian, year 106An ettin decided to pay us a visit. It came from south and headed right towards our fortress.
I ordered the Golden Depressions to go outside and kill it. The battle took place just outside the walled area.
The battle was over as soon as it begun as our soldiers decapitated the creature. Afterwards I asked who gave the final blow and, to my surprise, it wasn't Derm but the new recruit G. And thus his kill-count went up to six notable kills. I think the lad is adapting well to the traditions of Golden Depressions.
15th of Obsidian, year 106The vikings are here again. It's time to test our entrance system, hopefully everything goes as planned.
Everything went just like we planned! Dozens of enemies, specifically the first assault squad, were captured and the rest of vikings retreated when they realized the fate that was coming to them. And no dwarves were hurt in the process.
I think we need more empty cages. Yes, lots of cages. And we should start executing the prisoners as soon as possible...
23rd of Obsidian, year 106Right when our workers were heading down to the entrance tunnel to get all the cages back inside we were ambushed by goblins.
I immediately ordered everybody to fall back, in hopes of saving our workers.
Unfortunately the one who spotted the goblins in the first place was killed by the archers.
I ordered the Golden Depressions to fall back as well and let the traps and our archers to deal with the goblins. Everybody followed the order except Edmus, who decided instead to rush towards the advancing goblins.
Our only chance to safe him was to send the whole squad down there. Unfortunately the fallen humans had joined the party.
At this point it was clear to us that we would not be able to save Edmus, and thus, as sad I am about it, I ordered the rest of the soldiers to fall back again.
The two ambushes were broken by our traps and Nix went to investigate. And what did he found? Two squads more!

The fallen humans were slain and the goblins driven away. Nix took some wounds but he should be able to survive. I ordered the soldiers to station near the ramps so that we can reload the traps again safely. And thus ended the series of ambushes which claimed the lives of one worker and Edmus.
28th of Obsidian, year 106Another year has passed. And another year we survived, even though this year we lost three capable soldiers. May they rest in peace.
Our population Over two hundred and thirty already. We are very wealthy fortress, combined wealth going over four million bucks.
On the positive side, we have been made the duchy of dwarven civilization, making me the Duke Kipi I. We have also been informed that the queen is considering to move here and make this place a capitol. We have already begun the construction of palace for her majesty, which is progressing well. We only need to finish smoothing and then engrave the floors, build the road, install the furniture and construct plus install some more iron statues. Shouldn't take too long, depending the adamantine production.
