Here is the map at the beginning of year 107

The Map

I'm currently working with the skill/kill counts, should be ready tomorrow.

Blarg, I would like to be redorfed as another archer named Conchobar II if possible.

Will do, though that means female dwarf again.

The only thing I can complain about is the false hope for another update. "Oh, look, Combatbrone has new posts!...Nope, Kipi's just saying he can't play."

I posted those two notes just so everybody following this story would know what's going on and why I suddenly turned inactive.

So, currently I have to use secondary option to get access to internet. That is to visit my parents' house and use their internet connection. This limits my connection time to few hours per day, so only one longer update can be posted daily.

I have already figured out the problem I have with my own connection; my netstick is breaking down, apparently it's one of the older models which tends to overheat and stop working. Now, I decided that it should be time to change my internet provider to cheaper one which also offers better and faster connection. This change may take few days to week or two depending on how quickly the new connection is ready ad working. I also can't keep the old one longer if I don't want to pay full month for nothing so I have to cancel it quickly.

All the above is meaning that for next few days to week or two my access to internet is limited to few hours per day, but at least it's better than what I had.

So, tomorrow I will post all the pending lists and such as well as longer update.

(Oh, look! Combatbronze has new posts!")

That stinks. I hope you can fix your connection soon.

(Nope, Kipi's just explaining why he's saying he can't play.)

And what do you think you are going to gain with all those mocking posts about me posting of the situation I currently have instead of new updates to the fortress itself? Faster updating? Sorry to hear you don't like the current situation of new posts with no updates but I prefer that instead of just disappearing.

...Sorry. I keep forgetting to check the tone of my attempts at jokes before hitting the "post" button. That was very inconsiderate of me and I won't do it again.

I'll sit here quietly now.

2nd of Granite, year 107

Our captain of the guard has taken a new name. From now on she wants to be called as Conchobar II. She didn't say why she wanted that name but I think it has something to do with the former member of the squad, the one we called Conchobar. Even though it's a bit strange that she wants that name I see no legal reasons to deny the request.

11th of Slate, year 107

Another artifact has been completed today. It's a kaolinite figurine representing one of our dwarves.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

More precisely the artifact represents the creation of artifact quality large pot from shale. The name is also strange, The Chaos of Rooms. And what has chaos and room to do with this?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

13th of Slate, year 107

I must tell you, Conchobar II is quite troublesome dwarf. First she is complaining when relieved from duty and the next moment she is complaining that her patrol duty has lasted too long.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I don't know what I should do with her, hopefully she won't snap out.

11th of Felsite, year 107

The majestic quarters are progressing nicely. Everything has been carved out, the buildings constructed using iron, the floors have been smoothed and the interior sections have been engraved. Most of the statues have been installed already, only something like thirty is missing.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Unfortunately we can't follow the original plan to the letter. This means we must forget the adamantine road and replace it with steel road. We don't have much adamantine left, just enough to complete the road, but I would rather save it for weapons and armors instead of using it luxury like road.

13th of Felsite, year 107

Another attack has been launched towards us. This time it's goblins who are trying our defenses. Poor bastards, we are certain that they can't win us.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

14th of Felsite, year 107

So, the goblins came. Two squads more precisely, accompanied by few trolls. The squads were commanded by hammer lord and elite archer, both of them being well known around here due all the attacks the they have commanded. Now, only two squads without archers or lashers. The only real problem would be the elite archer but I don't expect that it will ever even reach our archers.

The trolls came first, as usual, and they rushed straight towards our traps. None of them escaped and thus each one of the trolls were trapped inside cages.

Next came the axe goblins, commanded by the archer. They followed the example made by trolls and and rushed towards the traps. Few were captured and the rest halted after the commander was caged. In the mean while the second squad was scattered by our archers. Apparently the goblins decided to approach the entrance tunnel from the direction of the bridge, which took them right in front and shooting range of our archers. The cloud of bolts scared them away. This meant there were only few axe goblins left, still standing near the cage of their leader, confused of what they should do next.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The only solution to this stalemate was to send the Copper Depression down there and slay the remaining goblins. He fought bravely while waiting for others, even after receiving some nasty wounds to his right arm. Strangely, on contrary to other in the squad, he had lost the function of his right arm instead of left and now the left one was wounded too. But that didn't stop him from fighting.

The rest of the squad arrived soon after and the goblins were driven away. Right after I gave the permission to leave the safety to our civilians. This is especially crucial to reset the traps and heal our wounded, which means G. And his wounds aren't bad, he was able to use his weapon well enough even after receiving the wounds. Cleaning and suturing should be enough to get him back to the training.

5th of Hematite, year 107

Two new types of industries has been started; beekeeping and nesting. Basically those two should bring some change to our regular rations, which is mostly composed from meat and plump helmets. Eggs and mead, those are something I haven't tasted in six years, not since I left mountain home.

As it turns out, the pen was in fact a poor choice for melee combat in comparison to the sword.
So I just started playing this game and I accidentally nuked the moon.

 :o :D

I should get a new internet stick tomorrow, so after that we are going to return more or less normal updating speed. There has been few births lately, haven't updated those to the second post. I'm still trying to get the program to work properly, if I can do that then I can generate the required post quickly with just few key presses.

Finally managed to find some time to play again. Damn real life...  >:(

So, here is the full info of Dirge...

Spoiler: Relations (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Kills (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Health (click to show/hide)

There are some annoying pathing problems in the fortress. It seems that certain workshops don't always have access to the raw materials, the reason is unknown. Currently the affected buildings are all jewelries (even after removing and rebuilding them) and one Temple of Armok. But I think I can manage with this.

20th of Hematite, year 107

We got another setback in our majestic quarters. I totally forgot we have no flux stone around here, which means no steel. What could be the next option? Iron? No, all the statues and walls are made from that, it must be something else. Gold? That's possible, though we need to mine some before I can say for sure. But it's a option, perhaps even the best one right now.

25th of Hematite, year 107

Thank god there was several veins of gold visible at the first cavern we discovered some time ago. This means we didn't have to go too deep when looking for the raw material for the road. One small vein has already been mined empty and the second, which is also larger, is currently being mined. We should be able to start the smelting soon.

15th of Malachite, year 107

I just realized one thing; there has been no sign of invaders since the goblins were slain and driven away. And why would that be? Well, I'm not complaining, it's only a good thing we get some rest after all the attacks and sieges we have survived.

23rd of Galena, year 107

The quarters for her Highness are ready!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The furniture is made from adamantine, except the bed which is the artifact pink jade bed. I was considering to put few more artifacts inside the rooms but I think adamantine fits better to her status. If she wants we can install those artifact later, for now I'm more concerned that the quality and number of furniture matches her requirements.

4th of Slate, year 107

I have finally decided that we need some soap here. And that means a new industry sector must be opened. The actual construction took only few days and so now we have two wood furnaces, two asheries and two soap workshops up and running.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

20th of Sandstone, year 107

It has been quiet. Too quiet. No attacks has occurred since Felsite. I wonder what is going on, why none of our enemies have tried to conquer us?

Well, as long as it's quiet here we may as well use the situation in our advantage. By this I mean the construction of huge wall around our fortress, giving us safe access to the are just outside the entrance. Perhaps we can construct some farms on the surface as well? Another idea is to harness the river to produce power, perhaps we can then move our forges closer the actual fortress.

But before I think all the possibilities we must construct the wall and new, bigger entrance. That's going to be a huge project, hopefully situation stays as it is right now.
