strange mood problem
« on: September 04, 2011, 01:07:43 pm »

My dwarf entered Secretive Mood and one of his demands was "a quarry"
I'v looked at wiki whats it, ok Stone.
First requirement was - Skeleton, so i'v slaughtered an animal for bones, and thats ok, he picked them up.
Second (and the most troublesome one) is A Quarry, I have alot of stones in my fortress (many types) but he did not take any of them. Iv checked his preferences out - "He likes magnetite / copper / tiger iron...", probably he wants stone that he likes. Obviously it is magnetite.... I have lots of it in stock and he doesn't want them. Help please :)

exact sequence is :
Skeleton ('t' shows that he have bones only so its first)
A Quarry
Cut Gems
Shining Bars of Metal
Stacked Cloth

Are you sure he doesn't want multiple bones? Sometimes they do that.

That was my first thought too. Butcher some more cats.

I don't think that stones are limited to certain kinds when a dwarf gets a mood - he'll prefer certain kinds of stone, but not be limited to them.

Check pathing, burrowing, forbidding, see if any of those are issues.

Also, make sure you have all 3 kinds of cloth - and more than 2 pieces of it.

They can in fact be limitted. It doesn't happen very frequently, but holy hell is it annoying when it does.

I always buy everything that is remotely useable because you never no what your next moody dwarf is up to.

Make sure all your workshops have doors that can be locked if this happens - the only thing that can be trashed then is the workshop, until he starves / dies of thirst.  Problem solved.  :-)

I just had a weaver get a strange mood and demand stuff that I knew I had (cloth, rough gems, wood, metal bars) and he was still just sitting there.

Then I noticed that he'd tasked the one piece of adamantine cloth I had accidently made.  So I made a second piece, he grabbed it, and then started construction.  So I expect something like a million db adamantine thong to be produced presently...

[Edit: I was close.  He made a turban.]
