Judging by the tools geologists work with he better work damn fast digging out a meeting area before that magma swamps the wagon.

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.

Bah. That's clearly an Iron Pick. As long as he's not alone, should be no problem.

It's not the size of the pick that counts... it's the size of the man with the pick.

It's not the size of the man with that counts, it's the size of the beard with the man.

It's not the size of the beard that counts, it's the amount of dwarfyness in it.

The fact they didn't pull a boatmurdered on the entire country while there implies to me none of them have played dwarf fortress yet. Someone make sure the next team spend at least 90 hours on the game before the next trip.

Well, considering that the volcano itself pulled a Boatmurdered, and they're there to KEEP the next one from happening...I guess they are anti-dwarves?

Two weeks later the scientists left, disappointed that there was no iron ore or limestone in the area.

Forgetting the obsidian, I'm much more interested in that bright yellow rock the tall-dwarf was sitting near. Could somebody identify that?

Here's more magma, this time in Hawaii:

I love the way you can see the crack propagate towards the camera!

Oooo, what if a future release brought the chasms back, and they occasionally flooded with magma/lava?

Almost worth the great violence it would do to the FPS.

It would be fun to see some sort of horizontal magma feature again.  Seems feasible to generate underground rivers of magma at volcanoes, spreading out and feeding magma pipes and pools.  May be a bit difficult to work with the caverns though.  Would like to see magma features get the irregularity back that they had in 40d.  It would be fun if they were more like spoiler tubes that actively avoided open spaces rather than extruding straight up through them in a shell of obsidian.

Will be interesting to see what form they take.
