The elites' base attacks would be too weak to quickly dispatch this many enemies. Now their morale might break, but ultimately using the mana grenades is the smarter choice here - they incur morale damage proportional to the physical damage they inflict, and against a group they'll be devastating. Going by just numbers, a grenade blast will take out almost two thirds of every raider's health.

Speaking of which, we should really be focusing on the Magitech style research. Additional mana for troops, additional magic damage for everything. What's our current research direction, anyway? So many propositions thrown around, I didn't understand what we ended up choosing.

So the mana grenades are morale and health killers?  Excellent.  Use them.

*sighs* Yes! Yes! Yes! We will smite their main forces with our grenades! Their puny ambush is irrelevant! Our recruits' courage will defend them more surely than any feeble cover could hope to!

If the main force is in disarray, the only threat the recruits face is the lone sniper in the south, and possibly the too-brave-to-live individual that jumped out of cover last turn. Even with their puny gear and training, they should suffer no casualties sorting that out. Assuming of course that no further raiders are going to surface.

Also, the recruits are in medium cover, at least most of them are. The original plan involved keeping the dunes between them and the main force, so they're currently safe enough where they are.

You don't have to worry terribly much about further Bandits popping up since they can only hide behind red areas and there isn't much space behind those left.

Your Elites step out of cover and make use of their assault rifles' grenade functions fire a pair of mana grenades in unison. The northern Elite fires his fairly horizontally, more like a rocket than a grenade, while his southern counterpart's grenade arcs high through the air to detonate over; they sail through the air, leaving an arc of energy behind them and-



Whoa.

So that's what happens when you use them on live human beings.

Actually, the mana surges gave away where those hiding Bandits were so the display added them automagically.

Yeah, mana grenades own.

You outright killed the one who caught both, and the rest are in immense pain from the effects of the grenade, which apparently (being an explosion of mana) harms their own mana; that is, those Elites basically just fired a grenade that does equal damage to the body and the person's literal soul.



The explosion flings them backwards; they're now going to make a run to escape the map (as the ones at the edge already did) while you attempt to kill or disable any who are fleeing.

This basically amounts to "I hope you like free experience bounties from kills, because any successful hit against a bunch of people who aren't in cover results in an auto-kill unless you specifically shoot to disable or have non-fatal equipment."

This is why maintaining Morale and keeping your Officers away from anti-morale attacks is important. Even just 1-3 turns of the psychic terror effect of the mana grenades on your/their Morale booster units could easily break a force.

I'm going to start rolling your guys' attacks in a moment, so let me know if you don't intend to mow them down.
