Yes. All Elbrethian soldiers are payed a small stipend, this covers (for most of them): Living quarters (for family and such, if necessary), food, and other necessities as well as allowing for a little spending shillings. Most soldiers use that on booze and whores, but some people with a similar pay-rate use the extra money to hire assistants, which is what Mahtan did to get Gunther and Lilith, or for less base tasks...which the only example I have of is still Mahtan's hiring assistants

As chloroform was not discovered until the 1800s, I'm going to have to ask you to edit your post to remove that last part. That was overstepping your bounds, anyways: That sort of thing requires a roll.

E2: Also, just a quick clarification: The 13 year old knight that was mentioned was actually a member of Erik's "Knight Guard", as his personal regiment was destroyed in a battle in 313, and was raised again in 314 using the squires and pages of Castle Sheepstead. When he knighted them at the beginning of 315, they were still pretty damn young...

EDIT: Hmm... I think I've got it all sorted, basically my tactic is leave a page on the internet open with the "show new replies to your posts" bit and every time I walk past my computer I'll click F5 to refresh and spend 30 secs reading, possibly another 2-5 writing or maybe even drawing and then go back to whatever I was doing. I'm really bad at staying in one place for longer than 10 minutes you see. Unless I go into a strange mood, in which case I'll do something non stop for about 6-10 hours without eating, drinking or bathroom breaks - It rarely results in an artifact but it generally looks pretty at the end and sells for money.
