Is it possible to participate using tiles? I sort of got too used to DF's choice of ASCII so now I have problems with nethack style ASCII :P

I'd like to join, although I'm not sure I even qualify as a Soaper- I have no Idea what a "Rune" is, or how to reach the temple. I think I get characters to around level four, usually? I have accounts on both CDO and CAO, both under the name of Angle.

Edit - I can play 0.9 online on develz, right? But in order to do that, I need to connect. With akrasiac, I could just use a password, but develz wants me to use an ssh-key, which I do not know how to do. I've done some googling, but am still unsure how to proceed. Help, please? How do I use an ssh key with develz? do I have to get it somewhere, or do I have to make my own, or what?

edit- Nvm, I think I found it.

edit - nope, not quite. I found the cao_key, but now I need the password. help please?

Count me in! Hmm I have gotten a couple of runes a few times though heavily aided by luck, so I'll fit into the intermediate category as I can consistently clear the lair. Mi account name is xczxc. Let me know in which team I'm in and I'll sign up.

Is 0.9 planned to be released by the time of the tournament?

In any case,my name's Tammuz on CAO. I'll sign up for beginner. I can get to lair every few tries, but that is in 0.8. I haven't played much of 0.9 and it seems to be harder in general.

Do we sign up before the tournament or do it after the tournament starts?

ok, have to rethink my strategy - spriggan mages seem to gain other skils too slowly now and the low hp makes fighting hordes of orc priests a pain. not completely used to .9 yet - playing in the lower bracket for now ... currently at 5000 points with a draconian abyss knight - spears.

Some of the categories are growing beyond 6 people, so we will have to self-organize a little bit here. Maybe we will start another intermediate/advanced team. The Recruits?

I suggest a team for people who aren't sure how much they can play, so they can take a relaxed approach to it. Any name suggestions?

Experts: (Champions)
taxus - some wins
ggeezz - handful of wins
Moron - won a few times
Alg - 15 wins
Soadreqm - one win
drkpaladin - one win, 4 runes
Dr.Feelgood/Demos - 27 wins

Advanced: (Blacksmiths)
Un67 - had 3 runes before
Wravburn - 3 runes
Frumple: - 1 win, not sure how much he can play this time
baruk/frankhovis: 1 win, plans to play slowly
Lektor - looking to get first win
debvon/Denvon - couple of wins
LASD

Intermediate: (Miners) (Recruits?)
RexNex
VogonPoet - got one rune, can sometimes clear Lair
HachnSlay - reached Lair
Ochita - reached lair
Vherid - reached Lair
Seriyu - been to Lair
MaxWhite - sometimes have lucky runs
xczxz - couple of runes

Beginners: (Soapers)
Cheese
PsyberianHusky
catastrophic lolcat - "I enjoy the game but I suck really bad at it"
Angle
PhantomSpaceMan/tammuz

Not-playing-much team: (?)
Frumple?
Krelian?
baruk/frankhovis?

You forgot LASD. Anyway, I have enough time to devote to Crawl, but the top teams are already full. Oh well.

From last year: Champions, Blacksmiths, Miners, Soapers, Immigrants, and Haulers.

Added LASD...

Dr.Feelgood, we can make two experts teams... We will get more people in the next several days.

LASD - I'd say the announcement should be posted asap, since we are now organizing the teams. Thanks!

To be clear: These are not final team listings, I'm just keeping track of what everyone said about their skill and availability. Let us know if you'd like to be on a different team. We'll need to organize into teams of 6.

I should probably be in a lower team even then soaper.

Oh, and I never did get the password to cao_key, so I can get into CDO. I've been telnetting in, nut I don't know if that'll work for the tournament.

The SSH key is here: http://crawl.develz.org/cao_key.ppk

Download the .ppk file
In the PuTTY Configuration 'Connection' category, there is a SSH branch, hit the plus sign.
Go to Auth.
Under Authentication parameters, 'Browse' for the .ppk file.

Go back to the 'Session' branch, save the session as something sensible, like 'Crawl'.
Hit OK.

Bob should now be your uncle, and every time you double click Crawl on your list of sessions you should be good to go.

(log into the session as 'crawl', then it all gets more obvious)

edit: rereading Angle's post, I think this is the important bit, emphasised for extra clarity:

log into the session as 'crawl'

I had a win with 4 runes in the tournament from few months ago (my first online win) using Web Tiles but i highly doubt i'll be able to do that again or fetch easily a single rune in 0.9, i felt i had lot of luck in that specific run that have certainly eaten my whole "Crawl luck" for the next decade, and with the removal in 0.9 of the learnable teleport spell that saved my character thousand of time (as i was regularly out of scrolls) in that victory i can't think of having any chance of winning again.

I'm more an certain Intermediate level, as i reach Lair regularly.

Though, i will probably not be able to play as much as in the tournament of few months ago, so i should certainly fit much more into the "Not-playing-much team" this year.

The e-mail has now been sent.

Yeah, we definitely need a team between Expert and Advanced. And Dr. Feelgood/Demos should definitely be the Captain of the top team, as he is the Bay12 Dungeon Crawl Champion of 2010.
