Oh, I still have to make it remove html tags and stuff before it can feasibly read pages for people. The room people can look at right now is the guest room, just  welcome message.

I got the image, you got lots of stuff to do yet..
Off topic: Why does grass have to grow? I hate mowing the lawn :P

You can lawn using a lawnbott.

Just checking in. I hope there is a chance using browsers to view the world. Anybody good at Ajax, or flash?

Eh, is it even feasible for you to make a new server from scratch? Sounds like it would need a lot of work and your time...

I'm not sure to be honest. MOO is the least time consuming platform for a MUD I know of. But even tho it has a huge flexibility, you can bump into things like that.

This is the time where WE others can do something. Maybe trying to survey some alternatives?

Just write a proxy that does the actual web page connections and all that?

As a bonus, the connection could resolve instantly, since it would only be connecting to the local machine from within the main loop.

It's a possibility yes. I'm not sure what is the issue yet, I will keep on trying to see if I can get it to open wikipedia pages.

Edit:

Bleh, used the same headers I used on the MOO on firefox to test and it worked there.

On the MOO I get 302, permanently moved. Could be the lack of cookies being sent. The other thing that's not helpful is that it sent in UTF-8 instead of ISO even tho the browser said ISO.

Oh thats not good :(

Oh well, as long as we keep this project running, we will eventually have someone able to help us.
I might be able to code a telnet server soon, but i got months of C education before that :/
But if we make the server from scratch, we can do all sorts of cool things.
Would take EVEN more time than coding a moo.. :(

I just have a dream about playing in a world filled with ancient computers, but everyone is linking to the web like playing computer game. Anyway, in it, when my computer needs to link to the internet, I need to drive through a maze, in order to get to destinations. And in the process, there is bad guys on the road trying to keep me from reaching the next site. I was thinking is there a kind of auto-maze generation algorithm we can used to create a maze like environment from one site to another. I know a lot of website do link their pages within each other it does feel like a maze, but I am trying to say is that adding some more game elements, will probably makes it more fun.

MUDs maze are also one of the amazing elements, which it can ignore physical linking rules, e->w->e doesn't make you back to where you are, players may not see links as literally directions, but reduce than into limited set of abstract directions (n links -> one direction, how to group it is a problems, maybe by site depths, or pure random), it will make it feels like a maze. Or even players themselves can forming maze in PvP situations.

Welp. Just saw that Soulwynd got muted for a week for "Image macro of a person with sexually [something] text".

So we won't be hearing of any progress for at least a week regardless of whether he does anything with this or not. So...y'know...don't panic.

Toady has gone really overboard with the whole banning and muting lately.
Like that time when he just banned RF for a small rape joke, for example.

We need to hold the fort, and keep on topic guys. 8)

I was searching alternative programming way, I've got Java Crawler program, java tag cloud, even java client-server program, I just want to know if there is an open source game engine with Java, which will suit for such a game?

I dont really know much about Java, other than its slower than other languages.
Not that it matters much for a stupid amateur like me :P

Offtopic: Industrialcraft server over Hamachi with my IRL friends talking through skype is FUCKING FUNNY.

I did find a MUD framework writing in java (groovy actually). Still not sure how to integrated it with crawlers and tag cloud yet. (Framework kind of complex, and need to modified heavily).
