The deep moist caverns that dwarfs use for storage produces mushrooms and molds and the spores of these then act as a natural preservative.

How did dwarfs first discover quantum storage (single tile dump zone) as well as the dwarven atom smasher?

The Dwarven Atomsmasher effect was first discovered by accident, when a tantruming Cheesemaker pulled a lever, dropping a drawbridge on the local baron, who was inspecting it at the time.

Quantum Stockpiling, on the other hand, was the end result of years of storage and hauling research.  It is said that the words that first heralded this monumental discovery were "Why don't we just throw all this [explative] in a pile and be done with it?"

The combination of the two was thereafter inevitable.

Why are dwarven civilizations never commandeered by escaped demons?

The demons have tried. Have you ever been in a dwarf election? There is no debates, it's just the candidates verbally mud wrestling while force-feeding booze down the opponents' throats. The demons just can't handle that kind of emotional abuse and hazing and never finish an election.

How can dwarves forge weapons like hammers, swords, axes, and giant serrated saw blades from single bars of metal?

Bars of metal have variable size, and when you get a bar of metal, it will always have been the exact size required.

Why is it that dwarves prefer to take breaks or party, rather than wall off the mines to block the clowns/FBs?

It's not a real party if the fortress is still standing in the morning, is it?

How does a burning cat falling through magma towards a hellish abyss report what it sees?

We all know cats are able to contact dwarves via telepathy.  The feline's final moments are broadcast to the fortress at large on the same bandwidth cats use to 'adopt' their 'owners'

How do dwarves know about the Upright Adamantine Weapon and place it on their rooms list without knowing about the Curious Underground Structure that houses it?

Because they each protect what they think are their weak points.

Why do Dwarves wear enough armor to signify that they are entirely COMPOSED of weakpoints, held together by beard hairs?

Because the first armoursmiths learned their craft on a retired axedwarf, who was missing both arms.
As to the goblins' incomplete armour - it'd be too inconvenient for them to have to take off leg armour in order to moon you.

Why do DF animals aim for the skull when trying to make a kill, unlike real animals which go for the throat or neck?
